Athletics' Zack Gelof: Returning from IL
Triple-A Las Vegas reinstated Gelof (shoulder) from its 7-day injured list Wednesday.
Gelof missed less than two weeks to begin the Triple-A season while recovering from a left shoulder strain suffered in spring training. One of the Athletics' top position prospects, Gelof should have a good chance at making his MLB debut later in 2023 if he can keep his strikeouts in check at Triple-A. Following a late-season call-up from Double-A Midland, Gelof bashed five home runs in nine games for Las Vegas, but he struck out in 11 of his 38 plate appearances (28.9 percent).

Athletics' Zack Gelof: Out with shoulder strain
Gelof is on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Las Vegas with a left shoulder strain and is expected to return this month, Melissa Lockard of The Athletic reports.
Lockard had a tweet from March 31 where she said Gelof would return in a week, so he shouldn't miss much time at all to start the season. Gelof, who has a chance to be Oakland's second baseman of the future, could reach the majors this summer if he handles Triple-A pitching.

Athletics' Zack Gelof: Finishing year at Triple-A

Athletics' Zack Gelof: Playing again at Double-A
Gelof (shoulder) has gone 8-for-37 (.216 average) with two home runs and a 9:12 BB:K over nine games since being reinstated from Double-A Midland's 7-day injured list July 14.
Gelof was sidelined for approximately a month and a half with a torn labrum in his left shoulder before rejoining the Midland lineup shortly before the All-Star break. Since the injury was to his non-throwing shoulder, Gelof has been able to pick up starts at both second and third base upon returning from the IL. The 22-year-old is slashing .298/.371/.444 with six home runs and eight stolen bases over 229 plate appearances for Midland in 2022.

Athletics' Zack Gelof: Recovering from torn labrum
Gelof hasn't played for Double-A Midland since May 26 while recovering from a torn labrum in his left shoulder, Melissa Lockard of The Athletic reports.
Gelof suffered the injury in question after landing awkwardly while diving at a groundball. Since the labrum tear is in his non-throwing shoulder, Gelof will avoid what likely would have been a season-ending surgery, but the 22-year-old third baseman should still be viewed as out indefinitely. Before getting hurt, Gelof produced a .315/.372/.458 slash line with four home runs and eight stolen bases across his 183 plate appearances with Midland.

Athletics' Zack Gelof: Thriving at Double-A Midland
Gelof owns a .318/.374/.465 slash line with 14 extra-base hits and 25 RBI across 171 plate appearances with Double-A Midland.
The 22-year-old was running much hotter just a week ago, as he's currently mired in an 0-for-20 slump. The fact his numbers remain as impressive as they are despite the funk is a testament to how effective he's been at the plate. Gelof had a brief three-game stint with Triple-A Las Vegas last season in which he went 7-for-12 with a double and six RBI, and given how well his season with the RockHounds is going, it may not be long before he bumps up for another go-around with the Aviators.

Athletics' Zack Gelof: Joining big-league camp
Gelof was invited to major-league spring training by the A's on Friday, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Gelof was selected with the 60th overall pick of the 2021 Draft and will join the big-league club for spring training. The 22-year-old made his professional debut last season and spent most of the campaign at Low-A Stockton, where he hit .298/.393/.548 with seven homers, 22 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 32 games.
