  • Brewers' Robert Gasser: Dealing with bone spur

Brewers manager Pat Murphy said Wednesday that Gasser will be sidelined for multiple weeks due to a bone spur in his left elbow, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Gasser is expected to make his major-league debut sometime in 2024, but his new injury will put a delay on his arrival date. Should the Brewers need to tap into their farm system for rotation depth while Gasser is sidelined, Aaron Ashby now figures to be the most likely candidate for a promotion to Milwaukee.

  • Brewers' Robert Gasser: Sent to minor-league camp

The Brewers re-assigned Gasser to minor-league camp Tuesday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

While he didn't wind up cracking the Opening Day rotation, Gasser impressed this spring and seems poised to get a shot with the big club before long. The southpaw permitted three runs with an 11:2 K:BB over 10 innings during Cactus League action. He'll join Triple-A Nashville's rotation for now.

  • Brewers' Robert Gasser: Making good impression

Gasser tossed three scoreless innings of relief in an exhibition game Friday. He allowed two hits and posted a 3:1 K:BB in the outing.

Gasser allowed two earned runs over two innings in his lone start of the spring, but he has sandwiched scoreless one-inning and now three-inning appearances around that and owns a 6:2 K:BB over six total frames. Gasser is one of Milwaukee's top prospects and is in the mix for a rotation spot with the big club, but with him not yet on the 40-man roster, the Brewers could assign him to the minors in order to retain other pitchers that are.

  • Brewers' Robert Gasser: Racking up strikeouts at Triple-A

Gasser went 3-0 with a 2.00 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 29:5 K:BB in 18 innings over his last four starts with Triple-A Nashville.

Gasser was knocked around a bit in July, but he has bounced back in a big way, striking out at least nine batters in all three of his August starts and keeping opposing baserunners to a minimum. Gasser has never pitched at the big-league level, but there's a chance he could do so before the campaign comes to a close.

  • Brewers' Robert Gasser: Trending up at Triple-A

Gasser went 3-0 with a 2.42 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 27:4 K:BB in 26.0 innings over his last four starts with Triple-A Nashville.

Gasser owned a 5.36 ERA as recently as May 30, but thanks to his latest stretch that mark has fallen more than a full run since. He is one of the better pitching prospects in Milwaukee's system, and if he can continue limiting the walks -- and in turn the runs -- he could garner consideration should the Brewers need to bring up a starter from the minors.

  • Brewers' Robert Gasser: Mixed results through two starts

Gasser has posted a 1.93 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 10:7 K:BB over 9.1 innings through two starts with Triple-A Nashville.

Walks have been an issue for Gasser -- just as they were last year in his five Triple-A starts -- and he has also hit three batters, but the Brewers' top pitching prospect has escaped any serious damage by missing a lot of bats. The team presumably wants to see Gasser limit the baserunners before giving him a shot at the top level, but if he can do so he could push for a spot on the big-league roster at some point this season.

  • Brewers' Robert Gasser: Sent to minor-league camp

Gasser was assigned to minor-league camp on Monday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Gasser was acquired by the Brewers from the Padres in the Josh Hader trade last summer, and he was promoted to Triple-A Nashville in August of 2022. He accrued a 4.44 ERA and 1.61 WHIP with a 31:16 K:BB across 26.1 frames with the Sounds and could be a candidate to join the Brewers later on in 2023.

  • Brewers' Robert Gasser: Rises to Triple-A

The Brewers promoted Gasser from Double-A Biloxi to Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday.

Gasser has already received a pair of promotions since being acquired from the Padres on Aug. 1 as part of the Josh Hader deal. After finishing his time in the San Diego organization at High-A Fort Wayne, Gasser began his tenure with Milwaukee at Biloxi, where he dazzled over his four starts (2.21 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 26:8 K:BB in 20.1 innings). Gasser will get a tougher test over the final few weeks of the minor-league season while he heads to the International League, but a strong showing at Nashville down the stretch could put him in position for an early-season call-up to Milwaukee in 2023.

  • Brewers' Robert Gasser: Dealt to Milwaukee

Milwaukee acquired Gasser, outfielder Esteury Ruiz, left-hander Taylor Rogers and right-hander Dinelson Lamet from San Diego on Monday in exchange for Josh Hader, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

The Brewers have such a good track record of targeting and developing young pitching that this move alone should slightly boost Gasser's value in dynasty leagues. He's a deceptive southpaw whose low arm angle allows all of his pitches to play up. Gasser throws a low-90s fastball, an above-average slider and a solid changeup. The 23-year-old has logged a 4.18 ERA, 3.27 FIP, 1.26 WHIP, 115 strikeouts and 28 walks in 90.1 innings across 18 starts at High-A.

  • Brewers' Robert Gasser: Opening at Double-A in new system

Gasser, whom the Brewers acquired from the Padres on Monday, will report to Double-A Biloxi, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Along with outfielder Esteury Ruiz, Gasser was one of two prospects that the Brewers received to go with two big-league pitchers (Taylor Rogers and Dinelson Lamet) in exchange for All-Star closer Josh Hader. The Brewers won't hesitate to give the 23-year-old lefty a stiffer test as he joins the organization, as he'll climb to the Double-A level for the first time in his career. Gasser turned in a 4.18 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 115:28 K:BB across 90.1 innings over his 18 starts at High-A Fort Wayne prior to the trade.
