Red Sox's Brandon Walter: Underwhelming stats at Triple-A
Walter has a 4.19 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 11:7 K:BB in 19.1 innings through four starts for Triple-A Worcester.
The best stat in Walter's profile early on is his 50.8 percent groundball rate, and even that's notably worse than his career norms. He showed an excellent ability to pound the zone and also pile up strikeouts in the lower levels, but his 12.9 percent strikeout rate is the second-lowest mark among qualified International League starters.

Red Sox's Brandon Walter: Sent to minor-league camp
The Red sox optioned Walter to Triple-A Worcester on Monday.
Walter pitched well in a pair of appearances in the Grapefruit League with two scoreless innings and five strikeouts against no walks, but he wasn't ever likely to start the season in Boston. The left-hander is one of the better pitching prospects in the Red Sox system, and in 2022 he posted a 3.59 ERA over 11 starts with Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester across 57.2 innings. There's a good chance Walter makes appearances of some sort for Boston before the 2023 season comes to a end.

Red Sox's Brandon Walter: Shielded from Rule 5 draft
Walter was added to Boston's 40-man roster Tuesday, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.
The 26-year-old southpaw dominated in nine starts at Double-A (2.88 ERA, 68:3 K:BB in 50 innings) before struggling in two starts at Triple-A and missing the rest of the season with a neck strain. He has resumed throwing and should be ready for spring training. If Walter regains his form from Double-A, he could pitch in the big-league rotation in 2023.

Red Sox's Brandon Walter: Back to throwing
Walter (neck) said Tuesday he resumed throwing a couple weeks ago, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.
The 26-year-old landed on the injured list at Triple-A Worcester in June with a neck strain, and he was able to start a throwing program in early October. Walter plans to return to mound work in December and should be fully recovered for the start of spring training. He could join the big-league club for camp but is likely to open 2023 at Triple-A.

Red Sox's Brandon Walter: Promoted to Worcester
Walter was promoted to Triple-A Worcester on Monday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Walter, a left-hander selected in the 26th round of the 2019 draft, has seen his stock rise rapidly since 2021. After the pandemic wiped out the 2020 minor-league season, Walter posted a 2.92 ERA over 25 games (14 starts) between to stops in the minors. He opened 2022 at Double-A Portland and has a 2.88 ERA with 68 strikeouts and just three walks over nine starts, spanning 50 innings. His fastball tops out at 95 mph, and he supplements that pitch with a changeup and slider.
