  • Brewers' Jeferson Quero: Bumped to 40-man roster

The Brewers selected Quero to their 40-man roster Monday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Quero would have been eligible for the Rule 5 Draft had he not been added to the 40-man roster ahead of Tuesday's deadline, and considering he's viewed as one of the organization's top catching prospects, Milwaukee unsurprisingly opted to protect him. The 21-year-old backstop could open the 2024 season at Triple-A Nashville after holding his own at Double-A Biloxi in 2023, slashing .262/.340/.443 with 16 home runs, a 10.2 percent walk rate and a 17.8 percent strikeout rate.

  • Brewers' Jeferson Quero: Makes return to Double-A squad

Double-A Biloxi reinstated Quero (hand) from the 7-day injured list Wednesday.

Quero is expected to step back in as Biloxi's No. 1 backstop after he hadn't played for the club since July 21 due to a left hand injury. The 20-year-old slugged 13 home runs and hit .289 in 268 plate appearances with Biloxi prior to landing on the shelf.

  • Brewers' Jeferson Quero: Hits 7-day IL

Quero has been placed on the 7-day injured list retroactive to July 23 due to left hand soreness, Adam McCalvy of reports.

Quero's injury comes at an unfortunate time, as the backstop had been raking to the tune of a .364/.500/.500 line in 12 games this month. On the plus side, the issue doesn't appear to be severe on the surface, so he could be back in action within the next week.

Quero is known for his excellent defense behind the plate, and this strong offensive showing could lead to him ranking as a top-20 real-life prospect by season's end.

  • Brewers' Jeferson Quero: Cruising at Double-A

Quero went 3-for-5 with three home runs and five RBI in a game with Double-A Biloxi on Tuesday.

Opinions on his future outlook vary to some degree, but he is one of the better catching prospects around the league and the top backstop prospect in Milwaukee's system.

  • Brewers' Jeferson Quero: Invited to MLB camp

Quero was invited Friday to the major-league side of Brewers camp this spring, Adam McCalvy of reports.

Quero won't come close to cracking the Opening Day roster in Milwaukee -- he's yet to appear in a game above High-A ball -- but a stint in MLB camp might prove valuable in the long term. The 20-year-old catcher has flashed impressive power and speed so far in the lower minors, and his defensive work behind the plate drew high praise in the 2022 Arizona Fall League.

  • Brewers' Jeferson Quero: Shakes off shoulder injury

Quero (shoulder) has gone 2-for-15 with a solo home run and a walk in four games since returning to the High-A Wisconsin lineup.

Quero was sidelined for just over a week with right shoulder soreness but never required a trip to the 7-day injured list. He's been able to make two of his four starts at catcher since returning to action, so the shoulder doesn't appear to be affecting him when he throws.

  • Brewers' Jeferson Quero: Healthy at Low-A

Quero (shoulder) has appeared in three games for Low-A Carolina, going 5-for-12 with a double, triple, walk, four runs and four RBI.

Quero has picked up one start as a designated hitter and two at catcher, with his usage behind the dish indicating that he's made a full recovery from the surgery he required last fall to address a separated left shoulder. The Brewers' top catching prospect is in the midst of his first year of full-season ball after he played exclusively in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League in 2021.
