De Los Santos cleared waivers Saturday and was returned to the Diamondbacks, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports. De Los Santos was selected by the Guardians during the Rule 5 Draft in December, but he wasn't able to make the team's 26-man Opening Day roster. He'll now return to the Diamondbacks organization, losing his 40-man roster spot in the process. The 20-year-old infielder spent all of last season at Double-A Amarillo, slashing .254/.297/.431 across 481 plate appearances, but he could receive a bump to Triple-A Reno to begin 2024. The Guardians also experimented with giving De Los Santos reps in the corner outfield positions, but it's unclear whether that experiment will continue as he returns to Arizona.... See More ... Guardians' Deyvison De Los Santos: Misses Opening Day roster
De Los Santos is not listed on the Guardians' Opening Day roster, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports. The Guardians attempted to add left and right field to De Los Santos' defensive skill set this spring in an effort to make him easier to carry on the 26-man roster, but he will fail to make the cut after posting a .545 OPS across 44 spring plate appearances. The Guardians acquired De Los Santos via the Rule 5 Draft this offseason, so the 20-year-old prospect will now be offered back to the Diamondbacks and likely head to Double-A or Triple-A to begin the year.... Diamondbacks' Deyvison De Los Santos: Hot start in High-A
De Los Santos has hit .329/.345/.565 with five homers and a steal in 20 games since being promoted to High-A Hillsboro. Those are impressive numbers, but they come with two major asterisks: a .418 BABIP and a 2:25 BB:K. However, he's also a 19-year-old in a league where he's 3.5 years younger than the average player, so the fact that he's been able to put up gaudy numbers early on in High-A despite facing more advanced pitching has to weigh in his favor. He won't be rushed to the big leagues and he may not stick at third base, where he's been an absolute butcher this season (15 errors), but there are precious few minor leaguers who can match his power.... Diamondbacks' Deyvison De Los Santos: Has himself a week
De Los Santos recorded three hits in five separate games for Single-A Visalia last week, earning a spot on the Pipeline Prospect Team of the Week, Tylor Maun of MLB.com reports. De Los Santos went 15-for-26 with two home runs, one triple, six RBI and six runs scored over six games against Inland Empire. Overall, the corner infielder is slashing .315/.355/.508 with 11 homers and 56 RBI over 61 games for the Rawhide. Standing at 6-foot-1 and 185-pounds, the 19-year-old has the body for power. The Diamondbacks hope his body lets him stick at third base, but there remains a chance he outgrows the position and has to move across the diamond to first base.... See More ... See Less
