  • Pirates' Colin Holderman: Healthy for spring

Holderman (shoulder) threw his first bullpen session of spring training Thursday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. The 27-year-old looks to be healthy again after he spent the final six weeks of the 2022 season on the Pirates' injured list with right shoulder soreness. Between stops with the Mets and Bucs in 2022, Holderman had put together a solid rookie campaign, logging a 3.81 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 24:14 K:BB in 28.1 innings. Barring a rough showing in the Grapefruit League, Holderman should be in good shape to earn a spot in the Pirates' Opening Day bullpen.

  • Pirates' Colin Holderman: Season ends

The Pirates transferred Holderman (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports. The move opens up a spot on the 40-man roster for right-hander Peter Solomon, whom the Pirates claimed off waivers from the Astros. It also spells an official end to Holderman's season, as the right-hander had been placed on the 15-day IL on Aug. 26 and now won't be eligible to be activated before the Pirates' campaign comes to a close in the first week of October. After joining the Pirates on July 22 in a deal with the Mets, Holderman gave up eight earned runs on nine hits and seven walks in 10.2 innings across his nine relief appearances with the big club.

  • Pirates' Colin Holderman: Placed on injured list

Holderman (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day injured list Friday, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports. Holderman exited Wednesday's appearance against Atlanta due to right shoulder soreness and will be unavailable for at least the next two weeks. A timetable for his return isn't yet clear, but Yohan Ramirez was recalled Friday to provide additional bullpen depth.

  • Pirates' Colin Holderman: Day-to-day with shoulder issue

Holderman was diagnosed with right shoulder discomfort following his appearance in Wednesday's game against Atlanta, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports. The injury likely explains why Holderman was woefully ineffective Wednesday, as he failed to record an out and was charged with five earned runs on three hits and a walk. The Pirates are labeling Holderman as day-to-day, but a trip to the injured list could be in the forecast if he doesn't show significant improvement heading into the weekend.

  • Pirates' Colin Holderman: Heads back to big leagues

The Pirates recalled Holderman from Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Holderman will be moving up to Pittsburgh after the team had an opening on its 26-man active roster and in its bullpen following Monday's trade that sent Chris Stratton to St. Louis. Since being acquired from the Mets on July 22, Holderman has pitched exclusively for the Pirates' Triple-A club.

  • Pirates' Colin Holderman: Sent down Saturday

Holderman was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday, Mike Persak of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Holderman was traded from the Mets to the Pirates on Friday, and he'll be sent to the minors a day later. The right-hander made five major-league appearances between the two teams in July and allowed a run (zero earned) on a hit and three walks while striking out four in 6.1 innings.

  • Mets' Colin Holderman: Dealt to Pirates

Holderman was traded to the Pirates in exchange for Daniel Vogelbach on Friday, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Holderman will head to Pittsburgh after producing a 2.04 ERA and 1.02 WHIP with 18 punchouts over 17.2 innings in 15 appearances with the Mets this season. He'll likely fill a middle relief role with the Pirates, but the rookie could slip into a high-leverage spot if the Bucs trade some veteran relievers at the deadline.

  • Mets' Colin Holderman: Summoned from minors

The Mets recalled Holderman from Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. New York added Holderman to the big-league pitching staff as a replacement for starter David Peterson (personal), who was placed on the paternity list. Peterson is expected to return from the list to start the Mets' series opener with the Marlins on Thursday, at which point Holderman could be a candidate to head back to the minors. Over 11.1 innings with the Mets this season, Holderman has turned in a 3.18 ERA and 1.24 WHIP across 10 relief appearances.

  • Mets' Colin Holderman: Activated and optioned

The Mets reinstated Holderman (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Monday and optioned him to Triple-A Syracuse, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. New York saw enough from Holderman during his one-inning rehab appearance Sunday with Syracuse to deduce that he was healthy, but the big club apparently doesn't have a spot available in the bullpen for the right-hander at the moment. After providing a 3.18 ERA while striking out 14 over 11.1 innings for New York prior to landing on the IL on June 11, Holderman should be first in line for a call-up if the Mets require an extra relief arm at any point.

  • Mets' Colin Holderman: Starting rehab stint

Holderman (shoulder) will report to Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday to begin a rehab assignment, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. Holderman has been out the past couple weeks with a right shoulder impingement, so he shouldn't require a lengthy rehab stint in the minors. The 26-year-old has appeared in 10 games in his first taste of the big leagues this year and has a 3.18 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 14:4 K:BB over 11.1 innings.

  • Mets' Colin Holderman: Eyeing minimum-length stay

Holderman (shoulder) said Tuesday that he expects to return from the 15-day injured list when first eligible June 24 or shortly thereafter, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. Holderman said he plans on resuming a throwing program in a few days after a recent MRI confirmed that he's dealing with a minor impingement of his right shoulder rather than a longer-term injury. Before landing on the IL, Holderman had emerged as a key piece out of the bullpen, accruing three wins while generating a 3.18 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 14:4 K:BB across 11.1 innings.

  • Mets' Colin Holderman: Hits injured list

Holderman was placed on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a right shoulder impingement, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. The move was backdated to Wednesday, leaving Holderman eligible to return June 24, though it's unclear if he'll have a shot at a minimum-length stay. Jake Reed was recalled to take his place in the bullpen.

  • Mets' Colin Holderman: Collects first MLB win

Holderman (1-0) gave up an unearned run on one hit in the 10th inning Thursday but was credited with the win in a 7-6 victory over the Cardinals. In his third career big-league appearance, Holderman got the call in the top of the 10th and allowed the phantom runner to score from third base on a groundball double play, but the rookie was rewarded for his effort when Pete Alonso walked it off in the bottom of the frame with a two-run blast. Holderman was one of the surprises of spring training for the Mets, and he's shown that performance was no fluke by posting a 0.00 ERA and 3:1 K:BB through his first three MLB innings after strong numbers at Triple-A Syracuse. Given the injuries in the Mets' rotation, the 26-year-old's ability to work longer stints -- three of his nine appearances for Syracuse were two innings, including his final two before his promotion -- could prove vital as manager Buck Showalter patches together his staff.
