  • Marlins' Jonathan Davis: Back with Marlins as NRI

Davis signed a minor-league contract with the Marlins on Monday that includes an invitation to spring training, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Davis posted a .685 OPS while appearing in 34 games for the Marlins before requiring season-ending right meniscus surgery. He should be healthy heading into spring training and will compete for a reserve outfielder role, but the 31-year-old will more likely than not start the season at Triple-A Jacksonville.

  • Jonathan Davis: Destined for free agency

Davis (knee) was activated from the 60-day injured list by the Marlins and opted for free agency on Thursday. Davis was outrighted to Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday and unsurprisingly went unclaimed on waivers. He'll likely land a minor-league deal with a team this offseason.

  • Marlins' Jonathan Davis: Outrighted to Triple-A

The Marlins sent Davis (knee) outright to Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Davis has been out since early July after undergoing surgery on his right knee. The 31-year-old resumed running toward the end of the season, but he is now set to return to the minors and will have to earn his way back onto Miami's 40-man roster in 2024.

  • Marlins' Jonathan Davis: Runs on field

Davis (knee) did some running on the field Monday, MLB.com reports. It's a big step for Davis as he works his way back from right meniscus surgery that he underwent in early July. The speedy outfielder won't make it back before the end of the season but hopefully should be able to have a relatively normal offseason.

  • Marlins' Jonathan Davis: Shifted to 60-day IL

Davis (knee) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Monday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. The move clears a spot for Johnny Cueto's return from the 60-day IL. Davis underwent right meniscus surgery last week and there's a good chance his season is over.

  • Marlins' Jonathan Davis: To miss 3-to-6 months

Marlins manager Skip Schumaker said Thursday that Davis (knee) is expected to be sidelined 3-to-6 months, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Davis underwent surgery Thursday after damaging his right meniscus while trying to make a diving catch Tuesday against the Cardinals. He had been in line for regular starts in center field with Jazz Chisholm (oblique) landing back on the injured list Monday, but Davis can now probably be ruled out until at least late September. The 31-year-old was slashing .244/.307/.378 with two home runs and one stolen base through 34 major-league games this season.

  • Marlins' Jonathan Davis: Requires surgery

Davis will undergo surgery Thursday after an MRI revealed a meniscus injury in his right knee, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports. Davis doesn't have a torn meniscus, but his injury is apparently still severe enough to warrant surgery. His recovery timeline is unclear at the moment, but it's very possible the procedure puts an early end to Davis' season. Should he miss the rest of the season, Davis will close 2023 with a .244/.307/.378 slash line alongside two homers and 10 RBI through 103 plate appearances. With Davis now joining Jazz Chisholm (oblique) on the 10-day injured list, Garrett Hampson and Dane Myers are likely to get most of the reps in center field for the foreseeable future.

  • Marlins' Jonathan Davis: Lands on IL with sprained knee

Davis was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a right knee sprain, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Davis had been set to undergo an MRI, and given the sprain diagnosis that test evidently revealed some damage. It's unclear at this point as to the severity. Garrett Hampson is taking Davis' spot on the roster and Dane Myers is in center field Wednesday.

  • Marlins' Jonathan Davis: Sitting out Wednesday

Davis (knee) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Though X-rays returned negative on Davis' right knee after he exited Tuesday's 15-2 win, he'll get at least one day off to tend to the injury. Dane Myers will step in as the Marlins' starting center fielder in place of Davis, who is expected to play regularly when healthy with Jazz Chisholm (oblique) on the 10-day injured list.

  • Marlins' Jonathan Davis: Diagnosed with knee contusion

Davis was diagnosed with a right knee contusion after leaving Tuesday's game against the Cardinals, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. That's just the initial diagnosis, however, and there should be more clarity on the full scope of the injury once Davis undergoes further testing. X-rays are planned and he might also be sent for an MRI. Davis banged his knee hard into the outfield turf Tuesday afternoon in Miami while trying to make a diving catch on a Tommy Edman line drive. He had to be carted off the field.

  • Marlins' Jonathan Davis: Moves back into reserve role

Davis will start in center field and bat eighth in Sunday's game against Atlanta, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Though he'll be included in the starting nine for the series finale, Davis was on the bench for each of the past three contests and looks to have moved into a fourth-outfielder role. With Jazz Chisholm having recently returned from the injured list, he'll be flanked in the outfield by Jesus Sanchez and Bryan De La Cruz more often than not.

  • Marlins' Jonathan Davis: Pops second homer

Davis went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Sunday's win over the Pirates. The 31-year-old outfielder connected on his second homer of the year in the third inning off Jose Oviedo, giving Eury Perez and the Miami bullpen all the run support they would need in an eventual 2-0 victory. Davis is slashing .236/.290/.364 through 20 games in June while holding down the starting role in center field, but he should soon get bumped to the bench -- or even off the roster entirely -- when Jazz Chisholm (toe) makes his return.

  • Marlins' Jonathan Davis: On bench Tuesday

Davis is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Blue Jays. Garrett Hampson will cover center field and bat eighth for the Marlins. Davis has reached base in five straight games, but his season OPS has fallen from .949 to .699 since the beginning of June.

  • Marlins' Jonathan Davis: Takes seat Wednesday

Davis is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Davis had started in center field in each of the previous four games, going 3-for-14 with three doubles, five RBI and four runs over that span. Garrett Hampson will fill in for Davis in center in the series finale.

  • Marlins' Jonathan Davis: Gets third straight start in center

Davis will start in center field and bat ninth in Monday's game against the Royals, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Davis will get his third straight start in center field after finishing the Marlins' weekend series with Oakland with a pair of doubles and two RBI. Though he appears to have supplanted Garrett Hampson as the Marlins' preferred option in center, both Davis and Hampson will likely see their opportunities dwindle when Jazz Chisholm (toe) likely returns from the injured list at some point this month.

  • Marlins' Jonathan Davis: Sent to Miami

The Marlins acquired Davis from the Tigers on Monday in exchange for Brady Allen. It's an exchange of minor-league outfielders, as the Tigers got a younger player and the Marlins get some major-league ready depth. Davis is a career .185/.291/.245 hitter over parts of five big-league seasons.

  • Tigers' Jonathan Davis: Sent out to minors camp

The Tigers reassigned Davis to minor-league camp Monday. With Akil Baddoo getting sent out to Triple-A Toledo and with Davis getting reassigned, Detroit appears set to enter the regular season with Riley Greene, Austin Meadows Matt Vierling, Kerry Carpenter and utility men Zach McKinstry and Ryan Kreidler as its options in the outfield. Davis, who slashed .224/.344/.237 in 91 plate appearances in the majors with Milwaukee in 2022, is likely to join Baddoo in Toledo to begin the 2023 campaign.

  • Tigers' Jonathan Davis: Gets NRI deal with Detroit

Davis agreed Monday with the Tigers on a minor-league contract and received an invitation to MLB spring training, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. Davis played 37 games in the majors for the Brewers in 2022, putting together a .224/.344/.237 slash line across 91 plate appearances. The 30-year-old outfielder will have an outside chance of winning a bench spot with the Tigers if he performs well in the Grapefruit League.

  • Brewers' Jonathan Davis: Activated and outrighted

The Brewers reinstated Davis (elbow) from the 10-day injured list Sunday and outrighted him to Triple-A Nashville. Though Milwaukee never officially announced the transaction, the veteran outfielder was apparently exposed to waivers upon being activated from the IL and will stay in the organization after going unclaimed. Before being placed on the IL on Aug. 27 with a right elbow effusion, Davis logged a .224/.344/.237 slash line over 91 plate appearances for Milwaukee on the season.

  • Brewers' Jonathan Davis: Out with elbow injury

Davis was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right elbow effusion Saturday. Davis has gotten into 37 games for the Brewers this season, slashing .224/.344/.237. Garrett Mitchell was recalled to take his place on the roster and could fill the same bench outfielder role.
