  • Diamondbacks' Ryan Hendrix: Finishing strong spring

Hendrix struck out the side in the fourth inning of Saturday's spring game against Seattle.

Hendrix made his fifth consecutive scoreless appearance, including fanning the side in his last two. "He's done a good job attacking the zone," manager Torey Lovullo told Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic. "It's a three-pitch mix. It's one of those situations where you want to continue giving him opportunities so we can evaluate him. He had a great day today." Hendrix is in the mix for one of the bullpen jobs still up for grabs. The right-hander, who mixes a mid-90s fastball with a slider and changeup, has walked two and struck out 14 over eight Cactus League innings.

  • Diamondbacks' Ryan Hendrix: Lands with Diamondbacks

Hendrix signed a minor-league contract with the Diamondbacks on Tuesday, which includes an invitation to spring training, the pitcher announced.

Hendrix posted a 5.85 ERA across 45 relief appearances for the Reds from 2021-22. He'll attempt to win a middle relief gig in spring training.

  • Ryan Hendrix: Elects free agency

Hendrix elected free agency Thursday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

Hendrix was designated for assignment by the Reds last week and cleared waivers, but he'll choose to test things out in free agency rather than accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Louisville. The right-hander made nine relief appearances in the majors during the 2022 campaign and posted a 5.40 ERA and 1.80 WHIP in 8.1 innings.

  • Reds' Ryan Hendrix: Clears waivers

Hendrix cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Louisville on Friday.

Hendrix appeared in nine games this season, giving up five runs in 8.1 innings. He now owns a 5.85 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in 40 innings at the highest level, so it's no surprise he didn't generate much interest on the waiver wire.

  • Reds' Ryan Hendrix: Sent to Triple-A

The Reds optioned Hendrix to Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday.

His demotion clears room on the 26-man active roster for right-hander T.J. Zeuch, whose contract was selected from Triple-A in advance of his scheduled start Wednesday versus the Mets. Hendrix has covered 8.1 innings out of the Reds bullpen this season, giving up five earned runs on nine hits and six walks.

  • Reds' Ryan Hendrix: Back in majors

Hendrix was recalled from Triple-A Louisville on Friday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

He has a 4.26 ERA, 1.74 WHIP and seven strikeouts in 6.1 innings across seven appearances in the majors this season. Hendrix should work in a low-leverage role.

  • Reds' Ryan Hendrix: Sent to minors

The Reds optioned Hendrix to Triple-A Louisville on Monday.

Hendrix tossed a scoreless inning out of the bullpen in his lone appearance during his two-day stint with the parent club. The Reds reinstated fellow reliever Hunter Strickland (personal) from the bereavement list in a corresponding move.

  • Reds' Ryan Hendrix: Contract selected by Reds

Hendrix's contract was selected from Triple-A Louisville on Saturday.

The right-hander was sent to the minors Tuesday but will rejoin the major-league roster less than a week later after the Reds traded Luis Castillo on Friday. Hendrix has made six relief appearances for Cincinnati this year, posting a 5.06 ERA and 1.88 WHIP in 5.1 innings.

  • Reds' Ryan Hendrix: Headed back to Louisville

The Reds returned Hendrix to Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday.

Since Hendrix joined the Reds last weekend as a replacement player with Dauri Moreta (illness) going on the COVID-19-related injured list in a corresponding move, Cincinnati won't have to expose the 27-year-old right-hander to waivers while he moves off the 40-man roster and back to Louisville. Moreta has been reinstated from the COVID-19 IL in advance of the Reds' next game Friday against the Cardinals, leaving no room in the bullpen for Hendrix.

  • Reds' Ryan Hendrix: Joins active roster

Hendrix was called up by the Reds on Saturday.

Hendrix is up to replace Dauri Moreta, who landed on the COVID-19 injured list. Hendrix, a 27-year-old righty, owns a career 6.17 ERA in 35 innings at the big-league level, with a 12.5 percent walk rate contributing to his struggles.

  • Reds' Ryan Hendrix: Outrighted to Triple-A

Hendrix cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Louisville on Friday.

Hendrix's first five appearances of the year came in the majors, but he allowed an 8.10 ERA and 2.70 WHIP in 3.1 innings. He'll attempt to prove himself in Louisville but is unlikely to be a high-leverage option if he returns to the big leagues at some point.

  • Reds' Ryan Hendrix: Moved off 40-man roster

The Reds designated Hendrix for assignment Sunday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

The transaction clears space on the 40-man roster for utility man Matt Reynolds, whom the Reds claimed off waivers from the Mets. Before he was demoted to Triple-A Louisville on Friday, Hendrix appeared in five games out of the Cincinnati bullpen this season and gave up three earned runs on five hits and four walks over 3.1 innings.

  • Reds' Ryan Hendrix: Optioned to Triple-A

Hendrix was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Friday, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Hendrix earned a spot on the Opening Day roster and allowed three runs in 3.1 innings during his first five appearances of the season. However, he'll now head to the minors after Lucas Sims (elbow) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Friday.

  • Reds' Ryan Hendrix: Breaks camp with big club

Manager David Bell said Monday that Hendrix has made the Reds' Opening Day roster, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

The 27-year-old righty will be one of 11 relievers joining the Reds for Opening Day. Hendrix reached the majors for the first time in 2021, appearing in 36 games for Cincinnati and submitting a 5.97 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 35:16 K:BB in 31.2 innings.

  • Reds' Ryan Hendrix: Sent down Thursday

Hendrix was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Thursday.

The right-hander posted a 9.64 ERA and 2.14 WHIP in 4.2 innings across his seven appearances since the All-Star break, and he'll now be removed from the active roster to make room for right-hander Mychal Givens. Hendrix will remain on the taxi squad and could be available if the Reds need an extra reliever.

  • Reds' Ryan Hendrix: Collects fourth win

Hendrix (4-1) picked up the win in Saturday's 3-2 victory over the Cubs, giving up one hit over 1.1 scoreless innings.

The 26-year-old rookie entered the game to begin the seventh inning and held Chicago in check before Cincinnati pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the frame. Hendrix has been far from effective this season, posting a 5.68 ERA and 27:14 K:BB through 25.1 innings, but the potent Reds' offense has given him some vulture value.

  • Reds' Ryan Hendrix: Notches one-out win

Hendrix (3-1) earned the win Sunday against the Rockies. He struck out the only batter he faced.

Hendrix came into the game to record the final out of the fifth inning, striking out Dom Nunez while stranding runners at both second and third base. This should be a nice confidence-booster for the 26-year-old reliever, as he had allowed runs in four of his previous six appearances.

  • Reds' Ryan Hendrix: Saddled with loss Tuesday

Hendrix (2-1) took the loss Tuesday against the Brewers, allowing an earned run on two walks and recording a strikeout over one inning. He also uncorked two wild pitches.

Tasked with preserving a 1-1 tie when he entered in the fifth, Hendrix ultimately allowed the go-ahead run to cross the plate by virtue of putting the first two men he faced on before allowing an RBI double play to Christian Yelich. The rookie right-hander has had his share of growing pains recently, as he's now pitched to a 6.43 ERA and 1.57 WHIP across the seven innings covering his last seven appearances.

  • Reds' Ryan Hendrix: Recalled by Reds

Hendrix was called up by Cincinnati on Friday.

Hendrix has yet to pitch above the Double-A level and threw just 19.1 innings there in 2019, but he's pitched well at nearly every minor-league stop. The 26-year-old righty owns a 2.55 ERA and a 32.2 percent strikeout rate in 172.2 career minor-league innings. He'll likely pitch in a low-leverage role for now.

  • Reds' Ryan Hendrix: Available to pitch

Hendrix (chest) is listed among the Reds' available relievers for Monday's Cactus League finale against the Mariners, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Though Hendrix looks set to miss out on a spot in Cincinnati's Opening Day roster, he'll at least conclude big-league camp healthy after a sore intercostal muscle limited him to just two appearances so far this spring. Hendrix is expected to open the 2021 campaign at Triple-A Louisville.
