Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: In Thursday's lineup
Moreno (thumb) will start at catcher and bat sixth in Thursday's game against the Giants. Moreno hadn't started either of the Diamondbacks' previous two games due to a bruised right thumb, but he had been included in the initial lineup Wednesday before being scratched. He ended up appearing as a pinch hitter in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Cubs, and he now looks like he'll be ready to not only hit but also play defense in Thursday's series opener.... See More ... Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Enters as pinch hitter
Moreno (thumb) entered Wednesday's game in the ninth inning as a pinch hitter and went 0-for-1 in a 5-3 loss to the Cubs. Moreno was scratched from the lineup the last two games due to the injury. That he pinch hit for his replacement, Tucker Barnhart, and could have entered the game had Arizona tied it up in the ninth, suggests manager Torey Lovullo was comfortable with the thought of Moreno catching. He could rejoin the starting nine Thursday in San Francisco.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Scratched from lineup again
Moreno (thumb) was scratched from the Diamondbacks' lineup ahead of Wednesday's contest against the Cubs, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. Moreno had been slated to rejoin the lineup after not starting in Tuesday's 12-11 extra-inning win due to a right thumb contusion, but he's been scratched for the second day in a row. He entered Tuesday's contest as a defensive replacement, but evidently swinging a bat still remains an issue. Consider the catcher day-to-day for the time being. Tucker Barnhart will once again fill in behind the plate.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Scratched Tuesday
Moreno was scratched from the Diamondbacks' lineup ahead of Tuesday's game versus the Cubs due to a right thumb contusion, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. Moreno bruised his thumb on a wild pitch during Monday's contest, and the damage is apparently severe enough to keep him from playing Tuesday. While he recovers, Tucker Barnhart will enter to play catcher and bat ninth.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Getting breather Wednesday
Moreno is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game in Colorado. Moreno nearly doubled his season hit total with four base knocks in Tuesday's 3-2 win, but the Diamondbacks and Rockies are playing a day game after a night game, so Arizona's top catcher will get a break. Tucker Barnhart will form a battery with starting pitcher Tommy Henry on Wednesday.... See More ... See Less -

All of Moreno's production came in Arizona's 14-run third inning, during which the backstop recorded a run-scoring single and a two-run double. The 24-year-old dealt with a back injury in spring training but appears back to full health to begin the regular season. He's locked in as the Diamondback's primary catcher after slashing .284/.339/.408 with seven homers, 50 RBI and six steals during his first full big-league campaign last year.... See More ... Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Returns to lineup Monday
Moreno (back) will start at catcher and bat second in Monday's Cactus League game versus the Athletics, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. The Diamondbacks wound up giving Moreno an additional day to recover from his lower-back tightness, but he's back behind the plate Monday for the first time in a week. Moreno has had a productive spring, going 4-for-17 with one home run and a 2:3 K:BB over seven contests.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Expected back in lineup Sunday
Moreno (back) is expected to return to the Diamondbacks' lineup Sunday against the Angels, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports. Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Back in lineup for Game 1
Moreno (wrist) will start at catcher and bat fifth Monday in Game 1 of the Diamondbacks' National League Championship Series matchup with the Phillies, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. Moreno exited Arizona's Game 4 and series-clinching win over the Dodgers in the National League Division Series last week after a foul tip caught him on the right hand/wrist. Fortunately for Moreno, X-rays came back negative, and he's ready to go for the NLCS after taking batting practice Sunday without issue. Moreno has popped three home runs and driven in six runs in five contests so far this postseason.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: X-rays negative
Moreno said Wednesday that X-rays on his right wrist came back negative, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports. Moreno was pulled from Game 4 of the NLDS after getting hit in the hand/wrist area on a bunt attempt, but it appears he managed to escape with only a bruise. The 23-year-old backstop will get four days to recover before the D-backs face Atlanta or Philadelphia in the NLCS.... See More ... See Less -

Moreno (head) is starting at catcher and batting fifth Saturday against the Dodgers in Game 1 of the NLDS. Moreno made an early exit from Game 2 of the NL Wild Card Series after getting hit in the head by a backswing, but he never had to enter concussion protocol and has been deemed fit to start the NLDS opener. Moreno went 1-for-5 with a homer and a walk during the D-backs' two-game sweep of the Brewers.... See More ... See Less -
