Yankees' Luis Gil: Excellent for first win
Gil (1-1) picked up the win Sunday, allowing two hits and three walks with nine strikeouts over 5.2 scoreless innings against the Rays.
Although Gil's walk issues persisted -- he's allowed at least three walks in each of his four starts this season -- he turned in his first scoreless start of the campaign and set a season high in strikeouts. He's yet to allow more than three hits in a game and hasn't been tagged for a homer in 19.2 innings. Gil is tentatively scheduled for a start against the Brewers on Friday.

Yankees' Luis Gil: Issues seven free passes in loss
Gil (0-1) took the loss Monday against the Blue Jays, allowing three runs on three hits and seven walks over five innings. He struck out six.
Gil struggled to find the strike zone Monday night in Toronto, walking seven batters, equaling a career-high previously set on Sept. 8, 2021, also against the Blue Jays. However, the 25-year-old still flashed his strikeout prowess, punching out six batters and generating 16 whiffs. Gil looks to bounce back in his next start, scheduled against the Rays at home.

Yankees' Luis Gil: Available Saturday
Gil will be available out of the bullpen for Saturday's doubleheader against the Guardians, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.
Per manager Aaron Boone, Gil would likely start Monday's game in Toronto if he doesn't pitch Saturday, but if he is used, he would slot back into the rotation Wednesday against the Blue Jays. Gil is available either for length or a big spot, so he could pick up a win or even a save during the twin bill. Nestor Cortes will start Sunday against Cleveland.

Yankees' Luis Gil: Fans eight in no-decision
Gil (0-0) didn't factor into the decision Sunday, allowing two runs on two hits and four walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out eight Blue Jays.
Gil's poor command came back to bite him Sunday, as he allowed a single to George Springer and then issued three straight free passes -- one hit-by-pitch -- to bring Springer around to score. Other than his walk problem (seven walks in nine innings), Gil has been great to start 2024, owning a 3.00 ERA with 14 strikeouts through two starts, both of which have come against dangerous offenses. He's lined up to face the Guardians in Cleveland for his next projected start.
