  • Athletics' Osvaldo Bido: Strikes deal with Oakland

Bido agreed to a major-league deal with the Athletics on Monday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. After being non-tendered by Pittsburgh on Friday, Bido quickly recaptured a 40-man roster spot with another organization in rebuilding mode. The 28-year-old right-hander reached the majors for the first time in 2023, going 2-5 with a 5.86 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 48:21 K:BB over 50.2 innings spanning 16 appearances (nine starts) with the Pirates. Bido has two minor-league options remaining, so if he falls short in his bid for an Opening Day roster spot with the Athletics, he'll provide rotation depth at the Triple-A level.

  • Osvaldo Bido: Dumped by Pittsburgh

Bido was non-tendered by the Pirates on Friday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Bido posted a less-than-promising 5.86 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 48:21 K:BB over his first 50.2 big-league innings in 2023. The 28-year-old right-hander is now a free agent.

  • Pirates' Osvaldo Bido: Draws start Friday

Bido is set to start Friday's game against the Marlins at PNC Park, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports. Bido will be making his ninth start of the season for Pittsburgh, but he may not be asked to work as deep into Friday's outing as he has for most of those other eight starts. Before being called up from Triple-A Indianapolis last Sunday, Bido hadn't recorded more than four outs in any of his seven appearances for the affiliate in September. The Pirates don't have an obvious candidate to work in bulk relief behind Bido and may treat Friday's contest as more of a bullpen day.

  • Pirates' Osvaldo Bido: Sent back to Triple-A

Pittsburgh optioned Bido to Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. Bido was lit up for eight earned runs over 2.1 innings of relief Saturday against the Cubs. Cody Bolton will join the Pirates as a fresh bullpen arm ahead of Sunday's series finale.

  • Pirates' Osvaldo Bido: Set for bulk-relief role

Bido is expected to serve as a bulk reliever behind opening pitcher Colin Selby in Saturday's game against the Cubs, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports. Selby hasn't covered more than two innings in any of his appearances in the majors or minors this season, so he's unlikely to work more than once through the Cubs' batting order before bowing out of the contest. Bido, who hasn't pitched since last Sunday, should be well rested and ready to cover multiple frames out of the bullpen once Selby exits. Over seven outings since the All-Star break spanning 20 innings, Bido has gone 1-3 with a 5.85 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 21:5 K:BB.

  • Pirates' Osvaldo Bido: Strikes out six in loss

Bido (2-4) took the loss Sunday against the Twins. He allowed two runs on four hits and zero walks while striking out six over 3.1 innings. Bido threw 69 pitches in bulk-relief work behind opener Ryan Borucki, and despite the two runs allowed pitched effectively with six strikeouts and no walks. Bido has previously started eight games for the Pirates, but this was his second extended relief outing. It remains to be seen whether he'll officially rejoin the rotation or continue to work extended innings in relief.

  • Pirates' Osvaldo Bido: Slated for bulk-relief role

Bido is expected to serve as a bulk reliever behind opener Ryan Borucki in Sunday's game against the Twins, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports. Borucki is pitching in front of Bido for the second time this season, as the former previously covered 1.2 scoreless frames as an opener July 22 versus the Angels, with Bido tossing three scoreless innings behind him. Since Borucki hasn't covered more than two innings in any appearance this season, he's unlikely to work more than once through the batting order before turning the contest over to Bido, who will be the Pirates pitcher most likely to factor into any decision. Look for Bido to cover around 3-to-5 innings Sunday.

  • Pirates' Osvaldo Bido: Recalled from Indianapolis

The Pirates recalled Bido from Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday. With Carmen Mlodzinski (elbow) headed for the injured list, Bido will come up from Triple-A to fill the open bullpen spot. Bido holds a 5.35 ERA and 1.46 WHIP through 37 innings in the majors this season and could end up serving as a bulk reliever behind Andre Jackson, who will make his first MLB start Saturday against the Reds but isn't expected to work deep into the contest.

  • Pirates' Osvaldo Bido: Yields four runs

Bido allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits over four innings in Monday's win over Atlanta. He struck out three and did not factor in the decision. Bido was untouchable through three perfect frames but Atlanta's bats got going and plated four runs in the fourth inning. He's coughed up 10 earned runs over his last 12.2 innings, raising his season ERA from 4.44 to 5.35 in the process. The rookie hasn't thrown more than four frames in an outing since June 24. Bido is lined up to face the Reds at home this weekend.

  • Pirates' Osvaldo Bido: Back in rotation Wednesday

Bido is scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Tigers at PNC Park, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. Bido made his most recent appearance out of the bullpen, serving as a primary pitcher and covering three scoreless innings behind opener Ryan Borucki in a July 22 win over the Angels. The Pirates were able to get by with a four-man rotation last week, but Bido will return to a starting role while Tuesday's series opener versus the Tigers kicks off a stretch of 16 games in as many days.

  • Pirates' Osvaldo Bido: Early exit in no-decision

Bido did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks over 2.2 innings against the Giants. He struck out three. Bido's final line could have been worse as he needed 64 pitches to record just eight outs, leaving the game after surrendering three runs in the third inning. The rookie right-hander is 1-1 this season with a 5.00 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 25:12 K:BB across 27 innings. Bido's next start is currently lined up for next weekend against the Angels, though his spot in the rotation could be in jeopardy with top-prospect Quinn Priester scheduled to make his debut with the Pirates on Monday.

  • Pirates' Osvaldo Bido: Just misses quality start

Bido allowed two runs on nine hits and struck out five batters over 5.2 innings in a no-decision against Miami on Saturday. Bido and Bryan Hoeing engaged in a scoreless pitchers' duel through four innings until the former surrendered a two-run homer to Luis Arraez in the fifth. Bido bounced back from the long ball to retire five more batters before he was lifted with two outs and two on in the sixth. The right-hander has been solid through three major-league outings, allowing six runs and posting an 18:5 K:BB over 15.2 frames. Bido appears to have a steady spot in the rotation and could hold onto it for the foreseeable future if he continues to pitch effectively.

  • Pirates' Osvaldo Bido: Decent showing MLB debut

Bido didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 10-6 loss to the Cubs after allowing one run on four hits and three walks while striking out six across four innings. After letting in a run in the first inning, Bido settled down to deliver three scoreless, one-hit frames in his MLB debut before the Pirates turned the game over to the bullpen. The 27-year-old Bido posted a pedestrian 4.55 ERA with a 1.30 WHIP through 55.1 innings in Triple-A this season, though his 56 strikeouts offer some intrigue. Brito will likely get at least one more turn through the rotation after the Pirates shifted Roansy Contreras to the bullpen. Bido tentatively lines up for a rematch with the Cubs early next week.
