  • Angels' Jo Adell: Optioned to Triple-A

Adell was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake by the Angels on Friday, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Both Adell and Mickey Moniak were informed they wouldn't be making the Opening Day roster. The 23-year-old hit just .229 over 51 plate appearances in the Cactus League coming into Friday, but he did homer four times with a .500 slugging percentage. Adell still has time to develop into a quality player, but nothing he's shown thus far at the highest level suggests that leap is coming soon.

  • Angels' Jo Adell: Likely bound for minors

Adell is expected to begin the season at Triple-A, MLB.com reports. He's hitting .250 with two home runs in a .734 OPS this spring.

Adell had a problematic 37.7% strikeout rate last season and it's been a similar story this spring. He has 16 strikeouts and just two walks in 39 plate appearances this spring.

  • Angels' Jo Adell: Hits eighth home run

Adell went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in a 4-1 victory over the Rangers on Friday.

Adell homered off Glenn Otto in the second inning for his eighth long ball of the season. It has been a disappointing year for Adell, who has struggled immensely to get on base and has found himself on the short side of an outfield platoon due to his .263 OBP and weak fielding. The silver lining is that Adell has set career highs in at-bats and homers and is still only 23 years old.

  • Angels' Jo Adell: Fades into platoon role

Adell is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Guardians.

Adell will take a seat for the fourth time in six games and appears to have moved into the short side of a platoon in left field with the lefty-hitting Mickey Moniak, who is serving as the Angels' leadoff man for the second day in a row. Since the All-Star break, Adell has turned in a .609 OPS while striking out at a 38.1 percent clip, which has made it tough for the Angels to justify giving him everyday playing time.

  • Angels' Jo Adell: Out of lineup Friday

Adell is not in the lineup Friday against the Astros, Edwin Perez of MLB.com reports.

Adell will get a day off Friday against Houston after slashing just .118/.118/.353 over the past week. Mickey Moniak will take over in left field and bat eighth.

  • Angels' Jo Adell: Remains out of lineup

Adell isn't starting Saturday against the Astros, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Adell has hit just .118 with a solo home run, a double, two runs and eight strikeouts over six games since the start of September. He'll take a seat for a second consecutive game while Mickey Moniak starts in left field and bats seventh.

  • Angels' Jo Adell: Slugs seventh homer

Adell went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-4 extra-inning win over the Tigers.

Adell was on the bench for consecutive games against Houston over the weekend, but he appears to have settled back into a near-everyday role. He went back-to-back with Mike Ford in the second inning for his seventh long ball of the season, which ended a 2-for-23 slide over the previous eight contests. Adell will draw his fourth start in a row in Wednesday's series finale, manning left field and batting seventh.

  • Angels' Jo Adell: Remains on bench

Adell will sit Saturday against the Astros, Sarah Valenzuela of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Even in a lost season, the Angels don't seem all that committed to giving Adell the chance to prove himself, as he's now been on the bench for three of the last four games. His .224/.270/.368 slash line in 65 games and his 36.7 percent strikeout rate don't make a great case for regular at-bats, but he's still a 23-year-old who had plenty of prospect pedigree before he made his debut in 2020. Ryan Aguilar will start in left field Saturday.

  • Angels' Jo Adell: Goes yard twice in Friday's rout

Adell went 4-for-5 with two home runs, three runs scored and three RBI in Friday's 12-0 win over the Blue Jays.

After lacing a couple singles early, Adell took his production into overdrive with a seventh-inning solo shot off Yusei Kikuchi and a two-run blast in the ninth off emergency hurler Whit Merrifield. Adell snapped an 18-game homer drought with the performance, and the four hits equaled his total from his prior nine games combined. Even with this outburst, the 23-year-old is still only slashing .230/.292/.402 through 31 games since the All-Star break.

  • Angels' Jo Adell: On bench Tuesday

Adell is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rays.

After a recent two-game absence due to a thumb injury, Adell started in each of the past four contests and went 2-for-12 with eight strikeouts. Though Magneuris Sierra will pick up the starting nod in left field Tuesday, the non-contending Angels will likely continue to deploy Adell as an everyday player down the stretch with the hope that he can cut down on his strikeouts and emerge as a productive regular in the lineup.
