Adell went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's win over the Twins while also drawing a walk. Adell jumped on the first pitch he saw from Sonny Gray in the top of the fourth and launched it over the wall in center field, giving the Angels their only run of the game. The right fielder also drew a free pass on the afternoon and has now walked and scored at least one run in three straight games. The home run was Adell's third of the season and the second in his last three contests.... See More ... See Less

Angels' Jo Adell: Rips second homer
Adell went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in Thursday's 5-4 loss against the Rays. Adell hit his second home run of the season, his first since June 8. The 24-year-old has started all three games since returning from an oblique injury Tuesday. Adell should receive a large share of playing time over the remaining nine Angels games and has a .936 OPS in 27 big-league plate appearances this year.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Jo Adell: Returns from IL
Adell (oblique) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list Monday. Adell began a rehab assignment over the weekend with Triple-A Salt Lake, and he'll now be available for Tuesday's matchup against the Rays. The 2017 first-round pick is 3-for-13 with one home run, three RBI and two runs scored through five contests with the Angels this season.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Jo Adell: Kicks off rehab assignment
Adell (oblique) began a rehab assignment Friday at Triple-A Salt Lake and went 3-for-9 with a home run, a double, two RBI and two additional runs between two games over the weekend. Adell's pair of games at Salt Lake were his first at any level since July 8, after he was shut down for more than two months while recovering from a left oblique strain. Given his lengthy absence, Adell could end up sticking with Salt Lake through the end of its season next Sunday to regain his timing at the plate. If all goes well, Adell may then be a candidate to return from the 60-day injured list for the final week of the Angels' season.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Jo Adell: Rehabbing in Salt Lake
Adell (oblique) reported to Triple-A Salt Lake last week to continue his rehab program, but he has yet to receive clearance for game action, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. "Where that puts him on a timeline for [a return] this year, I'm not sure," manager Phil Nevin said of Adell. "We'll see how the next few days go for him." Adell has been on the shelf since July 14 with a left oblique strain, but he resumed baseball activities at the Angels' spring training facility in Arizona in late August and appears set to continue those workouts in Utah. The Angels will presumably reassess Adell over the weekend before determining if he'll be ready to play in rehab games next week for the final six games of Salt Lake's season. If Adell is able to take part in those rehab games without incident, he could then be a realistic option to return from the Angels' 60-day injured list for the final week of the MLB season.... Angels' Jo Adell: Hitting in cage
Adell (oblique) has started hitting in the cage, and there is some hope he could return this season, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. He will be eligible to come off the 60-day injured list Sept. 7, but Adell probably needs at least a brief rehab assignment before he joins the big club; therefore, a mid-September return seems more likely than one in the early part of the month. Once fully healthy and active, it seems likely the Angels would give Adell opportunities down the stretch for internal evaluation purposes. Adell has a .271/.376/.580 slash line with 23 home runs and nine steals in 72 games at Triple-A this year. He struck out six times in 14 plate appearances in the big leagues.... See More ... Angels' Jo Adell: To 60-day IL
Adell (oblique) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Tuesday. He last played July 8, so this move means Adell won't return until Sept. 7 at the earliest. Jordyn Adams' contract was selected from Triple-A Salt Lake in a corresponding move, and Adams, along with newcomer Randal Grichuk, will help provide outfield depth in the short term.... See More ... Angels' Jo Adell: Has no timeline for return
Adell (oblique) is expected to remain out for a significant amount of time, though he's likely to return at some point this season, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports. Adell has been sidelined since July 8 due to an oblique strain that Blum describes as "significant." The outfielder had slashed .231/.286/.692 with a home run and a 42.9 percent strikeout rate over 14 plate appearances in the majors prior to getting hurt, though he put up big numbers in Triple-A with a .959 OPS and 23 homers across 318 plate appearances. Taylor Ward (face) recently went on the IL to open a spot in the Angels outfield, but the team subsequently acquired Randal Grichuk in a trade and could also get Mike Trout (wrist) back in the coming weeks, so Adell isn't likely to have more than a reserve spot waiting for him if he sticks with the big club when he's able to return.... Angels' Jo Adell: Lands on IL with oblique strain
Adell (left oblique strain) was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday, retroactive to July 11. Teammate Zach Neto just returned from an oblique strain after missing exactly a month, so Adell's absence could stretch into August. With Neto getting activated, the Angels could continue to experiment with Luis Rengifo in the outfield, at least against lefties. Adell was hitting .231 with a 42.9 percent strikeout rate over his last five games.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Jo Adell: Dealing with oblique issue
Adell exited Saturday's game against the Dodgers with left oblique discomfort. Adell was pulled from the game after his first plate appearance of the game. Oblique injuries often cause a lengthy absence, though Adell will at least have six days to rest prior to the Angels' next game. It's unclear if he'll require a stint on the injured list.... Angels' Jo Adell: Lifted from Saturday's game
Adell exited Saturday's game against the Dodgers after his at-bat in the first inning, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports. There was no official announcement from the team, and it's not completely clear that Adell was pulled due to injury. However, the team is without several bench players, making it unlikely they'd voluntarily pull a player early in the game. The Angels don't play Sunday, so Adell will have until after the All-Star break to recover.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Jo Adell: Batting cleanup Wednesday
Adell is starting in left field and batting cleanup Wednesday in San Diego, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. Adell didn't start Tuesday in his first game back in the majors, but he came off the bench to deliver an RBI triple and is in the lineup a day later. He and his Angels teammates will be squaring off against Seth Lugo.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Jo Adell: Triples off bench in return
Adell hit an RBI triple in Tuesday's loss to the Padres. Adell was recalled prior to the contest Tuesday with Mike Trout (wrist) placed on the injured list. Though he wasn't in the starting lineup, Adell came through when called upon, smacking an RBI triple in the ninth inning to begin a Los Angeles rally that fell short. It appears Adell will stick around with the big club for a while since Trout is expected to miss at least a month, though it's not certain that he'll be an everyday player since Mickey Moniak, Taylor Ward and Hunter Renfroe have regular roles in the team's outfield.... Angels' Jo Adell: Back in minors
The Angels optioned Adell to Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday. Adell was recalled Monday to serve as a temporary roster replacement for Eduardo Escobar, who was on the restricted list for personal reasons. Now that Escobar is back, Adell will head back to Triple-A, where he has stood out with a .273/.364/.583 slash line.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Jo Adell: Recalled from Salt Lake
The Angels recalled Adell from Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday. Adell has appeared in one game this season for the Angels, in which he was 1-for-3 with a home run and a walk. He's been great in Triple-A, slashing .278/.364/.563 with 21 homers and 53 RBI across 291 plate appearances -- though Adell has struggled in the past with turning minor-league success into major-league results. Eduardo Escobar was placed on the restricted list in a corresponding move as he takes his citizenship test.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Jo Adell: Optioned to Triple-A
Adell was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake by the Angels on Saturday. Adell heads down to Triple-A after Hunter Renfroe was reinstated from the paternity list by the Angels on Saturday. Adell has crushed Triple-A pitching, but he will likely need an injury or trade in order to get another chance at consistent MLB playing time in 2023.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Jo Adell: Crushes first homer of season
Adell went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Thursday's victory over the Cubs. Adell launched a 451-foot shot into the left-field seats in his first big-league at-bat of the season. The outfielder was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on June 7 after Hunter Renfroe was placed on the paternity list. Adell was hitting .278 with 18 home runs and 43 RBIs in the minors when he was promoted.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Jo Adell: Batting sixth Thursday
Adell is starting in right field and hitting sixth Thursday versus the Cubs. Adell was called up by the Angels on Wednesday and will make his season debut for the club in Thursday night's series finale against Chicago. He might only remain on the major-league roster until Hunter Renfroe (paternity) returns, but the 24-year-old could at least put a good foot forward for an extended look down the line. He has again lit up the Triple-A level in 2023, registering a .958 OPS and 18 home runs in 55 games.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Jo Adell: Added to major-league roster
Adell was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday. Adell was undoubtedly deserving of a promotion, having collected a .958 OPS with 18 home runs this season with Salt Lake. He's still striking out at a 29.2 percent rate, however, and might only be up with the big club for as long as Hunter Renfroe is on paternity leave. Adell is not in the Angels' lineup Wednesday but is expected to start Thursday versus lefty Drew Smyly, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Jo Adell: Off to hot start at Triple-A
Adell is slashing .350/.500/.950 with three home runs, three doubles, six runs and nine RBI through six games with Triple-A Salt Lake. Adell was unable to make the Angels' Opening Day roster out of spring training, but he's making an early push to get back to the majors. He's reached base in all six games that he's played in the minors so far this season and has homered in three straight contests. One of Adell's biggest struggles to this point in his career has been making contact -- he struck out at a 37.7 percent clip over 284 big-league plate appearances last season -- but he's shown dramatic improvement thus far in 2023, striking out just four times while drawing five walks over 26 trips to the dish. Adell is a few years removed from being one of the game's top prospects, and even if he does receive a promotion soon, he isn't likely to have an everyday role with Mike Trout, Taylor Ward and Hunter Renfroe locked in as the Angels' starting outfielders....
