Amaya has hit safely in five straight games for Triple-A Jacksonville, going 11-for-20 (.550) with a double, four home runs and 12 RBI. The 24-year-old shortstop missed about a week of action after getting hit by a pitch May 16, but since returning to the Jumbo Shrimp lineup, Amaya has been on a tear. He's now slashing .297/.367/.494 on the season, a sharp contrast to the .587 OPS that Miami shortstops have produced this season -- the second-worst mark in MLB, ahead of only the .573 OPS generated by Oakland shortstops. While he's not viewed as a top prospect, Amaya's big-league debut seems like it should be coming sooner rather than later.... See More ... See Less

Marlins' Jacob Amaya: Pushing for promotion
Amaya is slashing .362/.423/.553 through 52 plate appearances in May for Triple-A Jacksonville with four doubles, a triple, a homer and a 5:6 BB:K. The 24-year-old may not ever be a true asset as a hitter in the majors, but Amaya's glove is big-league ready and all he really needs to do is demonstrate he won't be a liability at the plate before he'll get a chance to take over as the Marlins' starting shortstop. That could happen before the All-Star break, considering that Joey Wendle has had trouble staying healthy and has gone 3-for-28 (.107) to begin the season when he has been in the lineup.... Marlins' Jacob Amaya: Sent to minors
The Marlins optioned Amaya to Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. With Jazz Chisholm and Luis Arraez seemingly locked in as the Marlins' Opening Day starters in the middle infield, Amaya was never a realistic candidate to break camp with the big club. After being acquired from the Dodgers in January in the deal that sent Miguel Rojas to Los Angeles, Amaya will likely have a clearer path to reaching the big leagues in 2023 with his new organization. He was productive in his first taste of the Triple-A level with Oklahoma City in 2022, slashing .259/.368/.381 with eight home runs and three stolen bases across 351 plate appearances.... Marlins' Jacob Amaya: Acquired by Miami
Amaya (undisclosed) was acquired by the Marlins from the Dodgers on Wednesday in exchange for shortstop Miguel Rojas (wrist), Jim Bowden of The Athletic reports. Amaya split the 2022 campaign between the Double-A and Triple-A levels and had a .261/.369/.426 slash line across 133 games. He landed on the 60-day injured list in October with an unspecified injury, and it's unclear if he'll be ready for the start of spring training next month.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Jacob Amaya: Lands on 60-day IL
Amaya was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City and placed on the 60-day injured list Thursday with an unspecified injury. The 24-year-old was added to the 40-man roster in November and split the 2022 campaign between Double-A Tulsa and Oklahoma City. Amaya had a .749 OPS in 84 games at Triple-A, and it's unclear how much the injury will affect his offseason program.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Jacob Amaya: Protected from Rule 5 draft
Amaya's contract was selected by the Dodgers on Friday, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports. Amaya served as a non-roster invitee during spring training in 2021, but he spent the entire season at Double-A Tulsa and slashed .216/.303/.343 with 12 homers, 60 runs, 47 RBI and five stolen bases. His addition to the 40-man roster will protect him from the Rule 5 draft.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Jacob Amaya: Headed to spring camp
Amaya will attend the Dodgers' big-league camp this spring, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports. Amaya spent last season at the team's alternate training site after hitting a combined .260 with seven homers and 71 RBI across two levels in 2019. He has considerable defensive talent and a good eye at the plate but hasn't yet demonstrated an ability to hit for power.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Jacob Amaya: Joins 60-man player pool
Amaya was added to the Dodgers' 60-man player pool Monday, Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times reports. He will report to the Dodgers' alternate training site at USC after being a non-roster invitee during spring training. Amaya, who turns 22 on Sept. 3, has displayed excellent plate skills in the minors, but he has never posted an ISO higher than .132 in full-season ball. He most recently hit .250/.307/.375 with one home run and one steal in 21 games at High-A.... See More ... See Less
