Holton pitched two scoreless innings of relief in the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Mets. He allowed a hit and struck out one. Holton has now logged 4.1 scoreless innings with six strikeouts across three appearances to begin the season. The lefty doesn't seem like a top option for save chances at the moment, but it is a fluid Detroit bullpen, with Alex Lange, Jason Foley, Shelby Miller and Andrew Chafin all seemingly in the mix to close out games. For now, Holton looks like a strong setup option who could be a decent source of holds.... See More ... See Less

Tigers' Tyler Holton: Looks better Saturday
Holton pitched a scoreless inning of relief with a strikeout in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Pirates, lowering his spring ERA to 4.50. Holton had allowed runs in each of his last two spring appearances, but he was sharper Saturday. The lefty now has four strikeouts across four Grapefruit League innings to go along with a 0.75 WHIP. Holton emerged as a key weapon for the Tigers in 2023, posting a 2.11 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 74 strikeouts across 85.1 innings, working primarily as a long reliever. The southpaw will likely serve in a similar capacity this year, and while he may vulture a few wins, his fantasy value figures to be inconsistent coming out of the bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Tyler Holton: Handles bulk role
Holton allowed a run on two hits and struck out two without walking a batter over 3.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Dodgers on Tuesday. Alex Faedo (finger) was initially lined up for bulk innings Tuesday, but he was placed on the injured list. Holton did a decent job in his longest outing of the season, limiting the damage to J.D. Martinez's fourth-inning solo home run. Holton has pitched well this year with a 2.13 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 70:17 K:BB through 80.1 innings over 55 appearances (one start). He could continue to be an option as a bulk reliever over the final two weeks of the season.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Tyler Holton: Notches first save
Holton picked up the save in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Pirates by striking out the only batter he faced. Holton entered the game with two outs in the bottom of the ninth as the Pirates tried to mount a late comeback, down three with the bases loaded. After getting down to a full count, the lefty then managed to strike out Ke'Bryan Hayes looking on a changeup to slam the door on Pittsburgh and record his first save of the season. It was a nice bounceback effort for Holton after blowing a save in his last appearance, and he's now recorded at least one strikeout in four straight outings.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Tyler Holton: Opening Thursday's game
Holton will serve as the Tigers' opening pitcher for Thursday's game in Philadelphia, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Reese Olson had been on tap to start Wednesday before the game was postponed due to air quality conditions. The Tigers haven't indicated that Olson won't pitch Thursday, so it's possible that he or Garrett Hill will function as a bulk reliever. The 26-year-old Holton has yet to make an MLB start, and he was used exclusively in relief over 21 appearances between the Tigers and Triple-A this season. He hasn't covered more than three innings in any of those outings, so Holton seems unlikely to work deep enough into his start Thursday to qualify for a win before he turns the game over to the bullpen.... Tigers' Tyler Holton: Delivers two scoreless innings
Holton allowed two hits while striking out two over two scoreless innings in Tuesday's 1-0 loss to the Phillies. Horton has been solid of late for the Tigers, pitching to a 1.76 ERA over his last eight appearances (15.1 innings). The rookie left-hander lowered his ERA to 2.32 with a 0.94 WHIP and 23:8 K:BB through 31 innings this season while earning more high-leverage work in Detroit.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Tyler Holton: Recalled from Triple-A
Holton was recalled Saturday from Triple-A Toledo. Holton will join the Tigers' bullpen ahead of Saturday's game against the Giants. He figures to operate in middle relief. He's struggled through 7.2 innings with Toledo so far, allowing four home runs and posting a 7:3 K:BB.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Tyler Holton: Claimed by Detroit
The Tigers claimed Holton off waivers from Arizona on Friday After being DFA'd by Arizona to free a spot for Andrew Chafin, Holton will now compete for a spot in the Tigers' bullpen. The 26-year-old lefty made 10 appearances for the D-backs last season, posting a 3.00 ERA and 1.11 WHIP through nine frames. Casey Mize (elbow/back) was placed on the 60-day IL to make room for Holton on the 40-man roster.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tyler Holton: Removed from 40-man roster
Holton was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks on Wednesday. As a result of the team officially signing Andrew Chafin, Holton was removed from the 40-man roster. The left-hander will now either get claimed by another team, be released outright or remain with Triple-A Reno, the last of which seems the most likely. Overall, Holton appeared in 10 games with the Diamondbacks in 2022, allowing three runs over nine innings while recording six strikeouts.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tyler Holton: Back in majors
Holton was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Wednesday. The 26-year-old was sent to Reno in late August but will rejoin the big club Wednesday with Ryne Nelson (shoulder) headed to the injured list. Holton has pitched in 10 games for Arizona this year and has allowed three earned runs with a 6:2 K:BB over nine innings.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tyler Holton: Heads to minors
Holton was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Monday. Holton was called up by the Diamondbacks at the end of July and posted a 4.50 ERA and 1.33 WHIP in six innings over eight relief appearances during his month in the major-league bullpen. However, he'll lose his spot on the active roster after Caleb Smith (finger) was reinstated from the injured list.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tyler Holton: Recalled Saturday
Holton was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Saturday. Holton has spent most of the season in Reno and has recorded a 3.29 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 27.1 innings over 18 relief appearances in the minors. The southpaw should pitch mainly in low-leverage situations but will be able to handle multi-inning outings if needed.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tyler Holton: Optioned to Triple-A
Holton was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Saturday. Holton tossed two scoreless innings as a reliever against the Dodgers on Friday, but he'll head back to the minors a day later. Kyle Nelson was reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list as part of a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tyler Holton: Back with big club
Holton was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Friday. Holton had his contract selected by Arizona in late April, and he was sent back to Reno a day later after delivering a scoreless frame in his major-league debut. The left-hander has struggled early in the season at Triple-A this year with a 5.65 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 14:9 K:BB across 14.1 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tyler Holton: Sent back to Triple-A
Holton was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Thursday. Holton had his contract selected earlier in the day but didn't even last a full 24 hours on the major-league roster. He did get to make his big-league debut, striking out one batter while allowing two hits in a scoreless inning of relief against the Cardinals.... See More ... See Less
