Julien went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, two runs scored and two RBI in Monday's win over the White Sox. Julien doubled in a run during the fourth inning before capping off the 7-0 victory with a solo shot in the seventh. He was stuck in a 3-for-24 skid over his previous seven games since his last long ball April 13. Julien continues to flash his power potential with five home runs and eight extra-base hits through 81 plate appearances. However, his inconsistency has led to a .211/.300/.465 slash line.... Twins' Edouard Julien: Starting again versus lefty
Julien will start at second base and bat ninth in Monday's game in Baltimore. Julien has now made two straight starts against left-handers and has been in the lineup for all but two games this season. It might not be the case if the Twins weren't missing Royce Lewis (quad) and/or Carlos Correa (intercostal), but for now Julien looks like an everyday player rather than a strong-side platoon option.... Twins' Edouard Julien: Getting start against southpaw
Julien will start at second base and bat ninth in Friday's game in Detroit. It's the first time in three games against lefties this season that Julien has been in the Twins' lineup. The 24-year-old is coming off a three-hit game Wednesday, which included a pair of solo home runs. Kyle Farmer will be at third base and Willi Castro will begin this one on the bench.... See More ... Twins' Edouard Julien: Homers twice in win
Julien went 3-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 3-2 victory over the Dodgers. Julien led off the home half of the first with an opposite-field shot off Bobby Miller, tying the game 1-1, before cranking a second homer off left-hander Alex Vesia in the fifth, putting Minnesota ahead 3-2. It's the first multi-hit game of the season for the 24-year-old Julien -- he'd gone just 3-for-28 with a 35.5 percent strikeout rate in his first nine games this year. Despite his early struggles, Julien appears to be locked in as the Twins' leadoff hitter against right-handed pitching after slashing .263/.381/.459 with 16 homers, 60 runs scored and 37 RBI in 408 plate appearances as a rookie.... Twins' Edouard Julien: Sitting versus lefty
Julien is absent from the lineup for Monday's game against the Dodgers. The Dodgers are sending southpaw James Paxton to the hill, so the left-handed hitting Julien will begin this one on the bench. Kyle Farmer receives the start at second base.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Edouard Julien: Back in action Monday
Julien (wrist) will serve as the Twins' designated hitter and leadoff batter in Monday's Grapefruit League game against Atlanta. Julien exited early in his last spring appearance Friday versus the Pirates after being hit by a pitch on the right wrist, but he escaped with nothing more than a bruise. After taking the weekend off to let the pain subside, Julien feels well enough to check back into the lineup, albeit in a non-defensive role. Following a promising rookie campaign, Julien has gotten off to a strong start to the spring with a .421/.476/.789 slash line through eight Grapefruit League games.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Edouard Julien: Works to improve against lefties
Julien worked in the offseason to limit his front shoulder from flying open during swings against lefties, the Bobby Nightingale of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. "I changed a couple of things in my swing to adjust to the slider and be able to hit the fastball against lefties," he said earlier this week. He's 6-for-10 with a walk in four games this spring and 2-for-5 against left-handed pitching. He went 2-for-3 with a home run in Friday's Grapefruit League win over Boston. Julien had an outstanding rookie season with a .381 OBP and drew walks at a near league-leading 15.7 percent clip. However, he hit just .195 with a .447 OPS against left-handed pitching. Julien will become the primary starter at second base after the trade of Jorge Polanco but will likely be platooned with Kyle Farmer. If Julien can show improvement against left-handed pitching, he could take over everyday duties.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Edouard Julien: Not in lineup for Game 2
Julien is out of the lineup for Game 2 of the ALDS against the Astros on Sunday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. The Twins are facing their first left-handed starter of the playoffs in Framber Valdez, and Julien will head to the bench as a result. The rookie infielder is 2-for-10 with a double, two walks and a run through three postseason games.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Edouard Julien: Productive against Rockies
Julien went 3-for-5 with a double, a two-run home run, an additional RBI and an additional run scored in Saturday's victory over the Rockies. Julien fell a triple shy of the cycle Saturday, notching a single in the first inning, a double in the sixth and belting a two-run homer in the seventh. He's now up to 16 homers on the year -- two in his last three games -- while slashing .263/.381/.461 across 108 contests.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Edouard Julien: Belts 15th homer
Julien went 2-for-4 with a solo home run against the A's in Wednesday's 6-4 victory. Julien began the Twins' half of the first inning with a bang, smacking a solo shot to right field. The long ball snapped an 0-for-11 stretch over his past four games and was his first extra-base hit since Sept. 17. Though he's somewhat faded down the stretch, Julien has still produced a solid .262/.380/.452 slash line with 15 homers, 33 RBI, 58 runs and three stolen bases through 393 plate appearances in his first season in the majors.... Twins' Edouard Julien: Sits versus southpaw
Julien is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers. Julien will bow out of the starting nine along with fellow left-handed hitter Max Kepler while the Rangers bring southpaw Jordan Montgomery to the hill. Kyle Farmer will pick up a start in the Minnesota infield and will bat seventh while Julien retreats to the bench.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Edouard Julien: Belts three-run shot
Julien went 1-for-5 with a three-run homer, a walk and two runs scored in Friday's win over Texas. Julien drilled a three-run shot during Minnesota's six-run seventh frame but also struck out four times. It was his 11th homer of the year and first since July 26. Over his previous 22 games since that last home run, Julien posted a .621 OPS with just four RBI. The rookie infielder is now slashing .285/.378/.479 with 24 extra-base hits and 41 runs scored through 78 games.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Edouard Julien: Back in action Wednesday
Julien (hamstring) will start at second base and bat leadoff in Wednesday's game against the Tigers. Julien sat out Tuesday's 5-3 win due to the hamstring injury, but the day off was apparently all he needed to move past the issue. He'll settle back in as the Twins' table setter in the series finale after previously batting ninth in his most recent start Sunday against the Phillies.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Edouard Julien: On bench Tuesday
Julien is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Tigers. The rookie infielder often finds himself on the bench against left-handed pitchers, but he'll sit Tuesday despite the fact righty Alex Faedo is taking the mound for Detroit. Julien is mired in a 1-for-16 slump, so manager Rocco Baldelli may just be looking to provide an extra day of rest. Jorge Polanco will shift to the keystone while Royce Lewis starts at third base.... Twins' Edouard Julien: On bench again versus lefty
Julien is not in the lineup for Tuesday's contest in Detroit. The Tigers are starting a lefty for the second day in a row, so Julien will again begin this one on the bench. Jorge Polanco will occupy second base, with Kyle Farmer covering third.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Edouard Julien: Heads to bench versus lefty
Julien is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals. The rookie will join fellow left-handed hitters Joey Gallo and Max Kepler on the bench for the series finale while the Royals bring southpaw Ryan Yarbrough to the hill. Jorge Polanco will check in for Julien at second base after making both of his first two starts at third base upon his return from the injured list Friday.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Edouard Julien: Could stick at keystone
Julien, who is starting at second base and hitting second Friday against the White Sox, got a vote of confidence with the news that Jorge Polanco (hamstring) will get reps at third base during his rehab assignment, Bobby Nightengale of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Given that Julien is arguably the game's hottest hitter, with a .593 batting average and three home runs in his last eight games, the Twins probably would have found a spot for him even if Jorge Polanco wasn't adding third base to his repertoire. This is still a nice sign that the Twins may feel they have found their second baseman of the present and future in Julien, although they haven't yet committed to giving him an everyday role. While he generally hits second against righties, Julien hasn't started against a lefty since June 19.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Edouard Julien: Reaches base four times again
Julien went 2-for-2 with a solo home run and two walks in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Mariners. Julien has gotten on base 10 times in his last 14 plate appearances, going 8-for-11 with two homers and three walks in that span as he continues to torment Seattle's pitching. The second baseman's blast was his ninth homer in 48 contests this season and his fifth long ball in July. With six multi-hit efforts in his last seven games, Julien is up to a .318/.394/.574 slash line overall.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Edouard Julien: Gets aboard four times
Julien went 3-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Monday's 7-6 loss to the Mariners. Julien has hit safely in seven of his last eight games, going 12-for-21 (.571) with six extra-base hits in that span. His steal Monday was his second of the campaign. The second baseman is more than holding his own against major-league pitching with a .298/.373/.525 slash line, seven home runs, 14 RBI, 21 runs scored and 11 doubles through 162 plate appearances, though his 32.1 percent strikeout rate is a bit lofty.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Edouard Julien: Socks sixth homer
Julien went 1-for-2 with a walk and a solo home run in Wednesday's 5-0 win over the Royals. Getting the start at second base and batting second, the 24-year-old rookie took Alec Marsh deep in the first inning to give Pablo Lopez all the run support he would need. Julien has gone yard in consecutive games to give him six homers on the season, and since rejoining the big-league lineup June 10 he's slashing .290/.375/.484, albeit with a less impressive three RBI and nine runs in 21 contests....
