  • Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Gets going at plate

Mitchell went 6-for-14 (.429) with a double, two RBI, two runs and a 3:4 BB:K over his last five spring games.

Mitchell got off to an 0-for-7 start in the exhibition season, but he seems to have found his swing over the last week-plus. A shoulder injury limited Mitchell to just 19 games in 2023, but he recovered late in the campaign and is fully healthy this spring. The Brewers are still evaluating how to best utilize their group of talented young outfielders, and it's unclear exactly how Mitchell will fit in. However, he brings enough power-speed potential to the table to warrant consideration from fantasy players.

  • Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Not on NL Wild Card Series roster

Mitchell is not on the roster for the Brewers' NL Wild Card Series matchup against the Diamondbacks.

Mitchell returned for the final four games of the regular season following a nearly five-month recovery from shoulder surgery, but he went 1-for-7 with three walks and two strikeouts and will not be part of the outfield mix for Milwaukee's best-of-three series versus Arizona. There's no word of any setback, and Mitchell could be reconsidered for a roster spot if the Brewers are able to advance to the NLDS.

  • Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Sitting against lefty

Mitchell isn't in the Brewers' lineup Saturday against the Cubs.

The lefty-hitting Mitchell will take a seat to begin Saturday's game as southpaw Jordan Wicks starts on the bump for the Cubs. Blake Perkins will start in center field instead while batting ninth.

  • Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Activated from 60-day IL

The Brewers activated Mitchell (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list ahead of Thursday's game against the Cardinals.

Mitchell finished off an eight-game minor-league rehab assignment Sunday with Triple-A Nashville and further proved his health during a couple of simulated games this week in Milwaukee. Sidelined since April 18 due to a shoulder injury that eventually required surgery, the 25-year-old center fielder can offer a boost to the Brewers offensively and defensively as they play out the final four games of the regular season and head into the playoffs. Mitchell has slashed .286/.341/.462 in 130 career major-league plate appearances dating back to his debut in August of 2022.

  • Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Aiming for postseason return

Mitchell (shoulder) said Tuesday that he is optimistic about being included on the Brewers' postseason roster, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

There was talk of Mitchell being activated from the 60-day injured list ahead of Tuesday's series opener against the Cardinals, but the target has now apparently shifted to Oct. 3 -- which would be Game 1 of the NL Wild Card Series -- because Milwaukee doesn't want to make a roster move. The 25-year-old outfielder has completed a minor-league rehab assignment and is currently taking simulated at-bats as he nears the end of his recovery from May 2 surgery to repair a subluxation and labrum damage in his left shoulder.

  • Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Expected to return Tuesday

Mitchell (shoulder) is expected to be activated from the 60-day injured list Tuesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Mitchell required surgery back in early May to repair a subluxation and labrum damage in his left shoulder. While the Brewers haven't yet confirmed he will return Tuesday, McCalvy notes that all signs point to Mitchell being activated. Mitchell batted only .188/.257/.250 with three steals in eight rehab games with Triple-A Nashville, though he did collect four hits in his final 10 at-bats. With Sal Frelick taking over in center field and Tyrone Taylor swinging a hot bat in right field, Mitchell could find playing time hard to come by down the stretch following a long layoff.

  • Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Cleared for rehab assignment

Mitchell (shoulder) was cleared to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville on Friday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

There was some fear that Mitchell had been lost for the season when he injured his shoulder sliding into third base April 18, but his chances of returning to Milwaukee before the end of the season are seemingly brighter than ever. Mitchell will likely remain in Nashville for the remainder of the Triple-A season, but he could join the Brewers for the final week of the year and a potential postseason run. The speedy outfielder holds a .286/.341/.462 slash line across 130 plate appearances in his career.

  • Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Closing in on rehab assignment

Mitchell (shoulder) is set to meet with a doctor Thursday or Friday and could be cleared to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Nashville as soon as this weekend, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Mitchell opened the season as the Brewers' everyday center fielder and was off to a solid start with a .259 average, three home runs and one stolen base in 16 games before suffering a left shoulder subluxation and associated labrum damage that required surgery May 2. Though the Brewers had some fear that the procedure would sideline Mitchell for the rest of the season, he's healed up well over the last few months and appears to be on the cusp of returning to game action. Hogg notes that Mitchell is expected to remain on assignment at Triple-A until Nashville's season ends Sept. 24, so any potential return from the 60-day injured list likely wouldn't come until the final week of the Brewers' regular season.

  • Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Doctor consultation on tap

Mitchell (shoulder) will have a doctor consultation at the end of the week to determine when he can get back in games, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Hogg notes things are trending positively for Mitchell. Back on Aug. 22, Mitchell told Adam McCalvy of MLB.com that he hoped to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville around Sept. 19. It seems like things are right on track, and Mitchell still has a chance to join the big club before the end of the season.

  • Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Making progress with shoulder

Mitchell (shoulder) said Tuesday that he's hoping to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville around Sept. 19, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

That would be the final week of the Triple-A regular season, and it could put Mitchell in line to return to the Brewers for the final week of the MLB regular season. The 24-year-old outfielder required surgery back in early May to repair the labrum in his left shoulder, but he's been performing most baseball activities without issue over the last couple of weeks.
