Red Sox's Wilyer Abreu: Debuts at Triple-A on Tuesday
Abreu (hamstring) returned from Triple-A Worcester's 7-day injured list and went 1-for-7 with a pair of walks and a run while starting Tuesday and Wednesday.
Acquired from the Astros last summer in the deal that sent Christian Vazquez to Houston, Abreu got off to a delayed start to the 2023 campaign after suffering a left hamstring strain in a March 5 Grapefruit League game. Now healthy again, the 23-year-old looks like he'll handle a near-everyday role for Worcester. Though Abreu lacks any exciting fantasy tools, he boasts a discerning eye at the plate; he was one of five minor-league players to record at least 100 walks in 2022.

Red Sox's Wilyer Abreu: Leaves spring game with injury
Abreu left Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Marlins with an apparent lower body injury, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.
Abreu appeared to hurt himself while running down the first base line and ended up leaving the contest. The 23-year-old will likely be examined further by trainers, and there should be an update on his status going forward in the coming days.

Red Sox's Wilyer Abreu: Leaves with hamstring strain
Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters after Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Marlins that Abreu exited with a left hamstring strain, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
"[Abreu] will be out for a while," Alex Cora said. Abreu strained the hamstring while running out a base hit against the Marlins. The outfielder is coming off a strong 2020 season where he homered 19 times and stole 31 bases with an .831 OPS at the Double-A level. He was acquired from the Astros in the midseason deal for Christian Vazquez. Abreu has a chance to make his MLB debut in 2023, but it sounds like he'll begin the season on the minor-league injured list.

Red Sox's Wilyer Abreu: Protected from Rule 5 Draft
Abreu was added to Boston's 40-man roster Tuesday, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.
Abreu spent all of 2022 at the Double-A level, slashing .249/.402/.439 between the Red Sox and Astros' affiliates. He has shown potential as a real threat on the bases, successfully swiping 31 bags last season and getting caught stealing just three times.

Red Sox's Wilyer Abreu: Dealt to Boston
The Red Sox acquired Abreu and Enmanuel Valdez from the Astros on Monday in exchange for Christian Vazquez, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.
Abreu is the secondary piece in this deal, as Valdez is the headliner. A 23-year-old outfielder, Abreu hit .249/.399/.459 with 15 home runs and 23 steals in 411 plate appearances at Double-A Corpus Christi this season. He strikes out a little too much (26.3 percent) given his age relative to level, but his 19 percent walk rate is quite impressive.
