Wilson allowed two hits and a walk across 3.2 scoreless innings during Wednesday's 1-0 win against the Padres. He struck out two and didn't factor in the decision.
The right-hander opened Wednesday's game for Milwaukee, and he threw 41 of 57 pitches for strikes as the first of five relievers that combined to shut out San Diego. It was Wilson's first start since 2022 with the Pirates, and he's excelled as a reliever for the Brewers over the past two seasons with a 2.85 ERA in 58 appearances. He should return to the relief role but could be an option for more spot starts as the campaign rolls on.

Brewers' Bryse Wilson: Will open Wednesday's contest
Wilson is slated to serve as Milwaukee's opening pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Padres, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Wilson has 43 career MLB starts to his name and covered three innings in his most recent relief appearance April 10 in Cincinnati, so he should be capable of giving the Brewers more length at the start of the game compared to the typical opening pitcher. However, the right-hander could still struggle to reach the five innings he would need to qualify for a win, so he doesn't profile as an especially appealing streaming or low-cost DFS option for Wednesday. The Brewers haven't outlined their plans for when Wilson exits the game, but Tobias Myers is expected to be called up from Triple-A Nashville prior to the contest and could be tasked with covering multiple innings behind Wilson.

Brewers' Bryse Wilson: Avoids arbitration with Brewers
The Brewers and Wilson avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1 million contract Thursday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
This was Wilson's first year of arbitration eligibility. The right-hander thrived in 2023 in his first year as a full-time reliever, posting a 2.58 ERA and 61:22 K:BB over 76.2 innings of work. He'll work in middle relief again in 2024.

Brewers' Bryse Wilson: Records sixth win
Wilson (6-0) tossed four scoreless innings of relief in Sunday's 10-6 victory over the Padres. He allowed two hits and posted a 4:1 K:BB in the outing.
Wilson was summoned after starter Adrian Houser (forearm) left the game after two frames, and he was exceptional, keeping the opponent off the scoreboard and allowing the Brewers to turn a three-run deficit into a comfortable lead. Wilson is seemingly not be a candidate to replace Houser, and that's mainly because he has been so good in his multi-inning relief role, posting a 2.95 ERA and 1.06 WHIP over 64 innings out of the bullpen.

Wilson got a chance to close Tuesday after the Brewers pushed across a run in the top of the 10th inning, and although he blew the save, he kept the game knotted at five. He remained in the game for another frame, and after his offense plated another run in the 11th, Wilson kept the Mariners off the scoreboard and picked up his first win of the season. Wilson is working as Milwaukee's long reliever, but he has recorded two three-inning saves in addition to the win, and he also owns a 0.82 ERA and 1.18 WHIP over 11.0 innings.

Brewers' Bryse Wilson: Shipped to Milwaukee
The Brewers acquired Wilson from the Pirates on Wednesday in exchange for cash considerations.
Despite having a fairly clear path to a full-time rotation spot last season for a Pirates squad lacking in established starting options, Wilson did little to make a case that he belonged in the rebuilding organization's long-term plans. In 25 outings (20 starts) overall with the big club in 2022, Wilson produced a 5.52 ERA and 1.42 WHIP while striking out just 15.5 percent of the batters he faced. He showed some improvement over the final two months of the campaign, however, and he did some of his best work against the Brewers, which may have influenced Milwaukee's decision to go out and acquire him after Pittsburgh designated him for assignment last week. Over his four outings against Milwaukee last season spanning 18.1 innings, Wilson generated a 3.93 ERA and 1.31 WHIP.

Wilson was designated for assignment by the Pirates on Wednesday, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.
Upon the official announcement of Jarlin Garcia's arrival in Pittsburgh, Wilson was booted from the 40-man roster in order to make room for the new acquisition. Wilson has put up an ERA north of 5.30 and a 1.40+ WHIP in each of the past two seasons, so the next team to take a chance on him may place him in Triple-A until he shows signs of improvement.

Wilson entered the game in the third inning, following JT Brubaker. The former recorded 10 outs with relative ease, but he allowed two hits and a walk prior to departing in the seventh frame, and he was ultimately charged with all three runs. Wilson will conclude the season with an ugly 5.52 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and a 79:32 K:BB across 115.2 innings.

Wilson was in line to pick up his fourth win before Wil Crowe coughed up the lead in the sixth inning, resulting in a Pirates loss. The 24-year-old Wilson threw a fairly clean outing with the exception of Patrick Wisdom's two-run shot in the second. Wilson ended a streak of seven consecutive starts with at least three earned runs and lowered his season ERA to 5.95 through 104.1 frames. He's lined up to face the Reds at home next week.

Pirates' Bryse Wilson: Takes ninth loss
Wilson (3-9) took the loss Saturday versus the Mets. He allowed four runs on four hits, two walks and two hit batters while striking out five over 5.1 innings.
Most of the damage came on a second-inning three-run home run by Eduardo Escobar. The Pirates' offense was unable to cover up that mistake, with Wilson taking his first loss in his last four outings. He's given up at least three runs in seven straight appearances, pushing his season ERA to 6.07 with a 1.48 WHIP and 67:26 K:BB through 99.1 innings across 22 appearances (18 starts). Wilson is expected to draw an easier matchup at home against the Cubs next week.
