  • Braves' Eli White: Activated and optioned

White was activated from the paternity leave list and optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett by Atlanta on Friday. The 28-year-old was initially promoted to replace Michael Harris when the latter went on the injured list, but now that Harris is back, White will head back to Gwinnett. He hit only .071 (1-for-14) during his stay in Atlanta.

  • Braves' Eli White: Goes on paternity leave

Atlanta placed White on the paternity list Tuesday. White can miss up to three games while he observes the birth of his child. Atlanta called up Nick Solak from Triple-A Gwinnett to replace White on the 26-man active roster.

  • Braves' Eli White: Recalled from Triple-A

White was recalled Thursday from Triple-A Gwinnett. He'll replace Michael Harris, who is headed to the 10-day injured list with a lower back strain. White can help cover all three outfield spots for Atlanta, but he holds a weak .185/.260/.296 career batting line in 389 plate appearances at the major-league level.

  • Braves' Eli White: Sent down to Triple-A

Atlanta optioned White to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday. White's demotion is a case of minor-league options working against a player, as he did everything he could this spring to win a job by turning in a 1.393 OPS with three home runs. The speedy utility player could wind up spending a good amount of time in the majors in 2023, even though he'll open the season in the minors.

  • Braves' Eli White: Making case for bench job

White went 3-for-3 with two home runs, three runs scored and three RBI in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Orioles. Getting the start in right field and batting eighth, White took Spenser Watkins deep in the third and fourth innings. The former Rangers outfielder got traded to Atlanta in the offseason to provide some roster depth, but the 28-year-old has designs of being more than that, going 10-for-23 this spring with six extra-base hits (two doubles, a triple and three homers) and a 3:3 BB:K. He still has plenty of competition for a bench spot on the 26-man roster, particularly from Jordan Luplow, but if White breaks camp on the Opening Day roster, he could see consistent action as a right-handed platoon partner for Eddie Rosario in left field as well as a late-game defensive replacement and pinch runner.

  • Braves' Eli White: Dealt to Atlanta

White (wrist/knee) was traded by the Rangers to Atlanta on Wednesday in exchange for cash considerations. After being designated for assignment by the Rangers on Friday, White will now have to try and carve a role for himself in Atlanta. The 28-year-old outfielder's season was cut short in mid-June due to wrist and knee injuries, though he wasn't very productive while healthy -- he slashed just .200/.274/.305 through 117 plate appearances. Given the underwhelming season Eddie Rosario had in 2022, it's possible he and White compete for time in left field.

  • Rangers' Eli White: DFA'd by Texas

White (wrist/knee) was designated for assignment by the Rangers on Friday. White underwent wrist surgery in June and missed the rest of season after he experienced knee discomfort during his minor-league rehab assignment. The 28-year-old has played in 111 MLB games over the past two seasons and has a .185/.264/.307 slash line with 16 stolen bases and a 31.8 percent strikeout rate.

  • Rangers' Eli White: Likely done for season

White has had his rehab assignment paused due to left knee discomfort and is expected to be shut down for the remainder of the season, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. White has been on the 60-day injured list since June after he underwent right wrist surgery, but he was cleared for game action in the minors last week. The 28-year-old is unlikely to rejoin the Rangers down the stretch following his setback, which is somewhat unsurprising since the team has been eliminated from postseason contention. It's not yet clear how White's knee injury will impact his offseason program.

  • Rangers' Eli White: Beginning rehab Wednesday

White (wrist) will begin a rehab assignment in Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports. White was placed on the 60-day injured list in June after he required surgery on his fractured right wrist. There is not yet a target return date in place, as it will likely depend on how he fares in the minors.

  • Rangers' Eli White: Making progress

White (wrist) participated in live batting practice Thursday and Friday at the Rangers' spring training facility, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. White has been out with a broken wrist since mid-June. His recent progress gives him a good chance to return before the end of the season, though he still has work to do. He's expected to begin full baseball activities next week.

  • Rangers' Eli White: Goes to 60-day IL

The Rangers transferred White (wrist) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Tuesday. After undergoing surgery on his right wrist June 14, White was already projected to miss 6-to-8 weeks before he was cleared to resume baseball activities, so the move to the 60-day IL shouldn't affect his timeline for being activated. The transaction temporarily removes White from the 40-man roster and opens up a spot for catcher Meibrys Viloria, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Round Rock.

  • Rangers' Eli White: Surgery completed

White underwent surgery on his right wrist Tuesday in Arlington, Texas and is expected to remain sidelined for 6-to-8 weeks before resuming baseball activities, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports. His surgery was overseen by Dr. Paul Hovis and involved the insertion of two screws into the distal radius bone in his right wrist. Since the 6-to-8-week timeline is a projection for when White will be able to resume baseball activities, he'll likely need at least an additional two weeks beyond that to regain conditioning and his timing at the plate before the Rangers are comfortable activating him from the IL. With that in mind, White appears unlikely to rejoin the Rangers until September.

  • Rangers' Eli White: Receiving X-rays on right wrist

White is receiving X-rays on his right wrist after exiting Sunday's game against the White Sox. White sustained his right wrist injury when he was involved in an outfield collision in the bottom of the 11th inning Sunday, and he remained on the ground for several minutes before slowly walking off the field under his own power. A more specific diagnosis should be known once the results of his exams are revealed.

  • Rangers' Eli White: Exits after scary collision

White was removed from Sunday's game against the White Sox in the bottom of the 11th inning after he was involved in an outfield collision, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports. White appeared to hurt his right arm during the outfield collision with Charlie Culberson and remained down for several minutes after the incident. He walked off the field slowly under his own power. Prior to his departure, White went 1-for-3 with a home run, three RBI and a walk. It's not yet clear whether he'll require a trip to the injured list.

  • Rangers' Eli White: Swipes two bags in win

White went 0-for-4 but stole two bases in a 6-3 win over the Guardians during the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader. Getting the start in center field and batting ninth, White took full advantage of his one opportunity on the basepaths, beating out a potential double-play ball and then swiping second and third. The 27-year-old is up to 12 steals in 13 attempts on the year, but his .196/.271/.278 slash line limits his fantasy utility to AL-only and deep mixed formats.

  • Rangers' Eli White: Sitting again versus righty

White is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Guardians. After he was on the bench for Sunday's 6-5 loss to the Mariners while right-hander George Kirby was on the mound for Seattle, White will take a seat against another righty (Cal Quantrill) in the series opener with the Guardians. The 27-year-old looks as though he'll be moving into more of a part-time role after slashing an underwhelming .195/.271/.273 in 30 games dating back to May 1. Steele Walker will pick up another start in left field in place of White, and the two players could end up settling into a platoon at the position.

  • Rangers' Eli White: Swipes bag as pinch runner

White stole a base as a pinch runner in Sunday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Mariners. White ran for Nathaniel Lowe after the latter hit a single in the ninth inning. The 27-year-old White didn't stay in the game after that, with Sam Huff instead entering as a defensive replacement at first base. White is now 10-for-11 in stolen base attempts this year. The speedy outfielder has added a .204/.282/.290 slash line with two home runs, seven RBI, 14 runs scored and a pair of doubles this year while competing for playing time primarily in left field and center field lately.

  • Rangers' Eli White: On bench Thursday

White is not in the starting lineup for Thursday's matchup with the Rays. White will take a seat after starting six consecutive games, going 6-for-20 with a homer, two RBI, two runs and stolen base in those contests. He'll be replaced in left field by Zach Reks, who will bat eighth.

  • Rangers' Eli White: Homers in three-hit effort

White went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Monday's 9-5 win over the Rays. White went yard in the second inning off Rays starter Drew Rasmussen, while his other two hits in the game were singles. He also robbed Ji-Man Choi of a three-run homer, leaping over the left-center field fence. Prior to Monday, White was 0-for-10 in his last four games. The outfielder is up to a .200/.289/.300 slash line with two homers, seven RBI, 14 runs scored and eight stolen bases through 90 plate appearances. He should be in line for more stable playing time with Brad Miller (hip) going on the injured list Monday.

  • Rangers' Eli White: Not starting Tuesday

White will be on the bench Tuesday against the Angels. White finds himself on the bench for the second time in three games. He plays good defense and has already stolen eight bases, but his .194/.296/.274 slash line is a tough fit for a starting corner outfielder, and his 38.0 percent strikeout rate suggests things are unlikely to change any time soon. Brad Miller will get the start in left field.
