  • Dodgers' Luke Williams: Signs MiLB deal

Williams signed a minor-league deal with the Dodgers on Friday. Williams was claimed off waivers by the Dodgers back in November and will remain in the Los Angeles system. The 26-year-old utility man recorded a .883 OPS through 58 plate appearances in Triple-A last year but just a .602 mark in 136 PAs split between the Giants and Marlins.

  • Dodgers' Luke Williams: Claimed by Dodgers

The Dodgers claimed Williams off of waivers from Miami on Tuesday, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports. Despite finding success during his limited appearances in Triple-A, where he slashed .327/.414/.469 last season, Williams struggled to carry it over into the majors. Now he joins a Dodgers organization that is filled with outfield talent, which will give him time to develop more in the minors before potentially getting a look in Los Angeles.

  • Marlins' Luke Williams: Sent down Thursday

Williams was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Williams saw minimal playing time for the Marlins in recent weeks, starting just three games since the start of September. He'll lose his spot on the active roster after Joey Wendle (hamstring) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Thursday.

  • Marlins' Luke Williams: Returns to bench

Williams is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Dodgers, Paige Leckie of MLB.com reports. Williams will be back in his usual bench role for the series finale after he struck out in all three of his at-bats while starting in left field during Sunday's 8-1 loss. The 26-year-old is expected to see occasional starts down the stretch, with most of his opportunities coming against left-handed pitching.

  • Marlins' Luke Williams: Playing time picks up

Williams will start at second base and bat ninth in Tuesday's game against the Padres, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Williams will make his fourth start in five games Tuesday, but his inclusion in the lineup is likely a byproduct of southpaw Sean Manaea taking the hill for Miami. Even though his opportunities have picked up of late, the righty-hitting Williams may have a tough time finding regular starts against right-handed pitching following the recent returns of Jon Berti and Brian Anderson from the injured list.

  • Marlins' Luke Williams: Steals three bases

Williams went 3-for-3 with a double, a run scored and three stolen bases in a 3-0 win over the Reds on Wednesday. Williams had a perfect night at the plate and on the basepaths, rapping out three hits and making three successful steal attempts. He took advantage of Mike Minor's low velocity, and none of the throws from Reds catcher Michael Papierski were even close to getting him out. The performance gives Williams nine steals on the season to go along with a slash line of .269/.347/.358 in 49 games played. The speedy backup infielder has shown he has the potential to steal bases in bunches, but he remains behind call-up Charles Leblanc on the depth chart.

  • Marlins' Luke Williams: Moves back into reserve role

Williams is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Reds, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. After starting five consecutive games to begin last week while going 2-for-16 with two walks, a stolen base and three runs, Williams now finds himself on the bench for the fourth consecutive contest. The 25-year-old looks set to fill a utility role for the time being while the Marlins give new call-up Charles Leblanc a look as their regular third baseman.

  • Marlins' Luke Williams: Returns from minors

The Marlins recalled Williams from Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Williams was optioned to Triple-A two days ago, but he's eligible to rejoin the big club after the Marlins moved Jazz Chisholm (back) to the 10-day injured list Wednesday. Jon Berti is expected to step in for Chisholm as the Marlins' everyday second baseman, while the versatile Williams handles a utility role. Don't expect Williams to see more than a start or two per week, with most of his opportunities likely to come against left-handed pitching.

  • Marlins' Luke Williams: Optioned to Triple-A

Williams was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Williams rejoined the major-league roster at the beginning of June and hit .226 with a double, six runs, an RBI and three stolen base over 21 games during his time with the Marlins. However, he'll head back to the minors after Brian Anderson (back) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Monday.

  • Marlins' Luke Williams: Logs steal as pinch runner

Williams notched a stolen base in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Mets. Williams ran for Garrett Cooper after the latter's RBI single in the ninth inning. He was able to get into scoring position, but Williams was left on base as the Marlins' rally fell short. The 25-year-old utility man is up to three steals in four attempts while adding four RBI, six runs scored and a pair of doubles in 32 plate appearances between the Marlins and the Giants this season. He has yet to carve out a regular role, instead mainly serving as a defensive replacement.

  • Marlins' Luke Williams: Productive in win

Williams went 2-for-4 with an RBI, a stolen base and a run scored in Saturday's 5-1 win over the Astros. Williams contributed an RBI single in the second inning. He got aboard again in the ninth, stole second base and scored on a Jon Berti single for an insurance run. Williams hasn't gotten a ton of playing time since he was called up from Triple-A Jacksonville on June 1, logging only 12 at-bats. He's posted a .292/.370/.375 slash line in 27 plate appearances between the Marlins and the Giants this season, though he often enters games late as a defensive replacement due to his ability to play all around the field.

  • Marlins' Luke Williams: Summoned to majors

The Marlins recalled Williams from Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. After being acquired from the Giants last week, Williams didn't have to wait long to join the big club with the Marlins desiring to add another right-handed bat to the roster to replace Brian Anderson (back), who was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday. Miami also moved Joey Wendle (hamstring) to the IL, but Jon Berti and Willians Astudillo are likely first in line to pick up reps at third base in Wendle's stead. Williams, meanwhile, profiles as more of a utility option due to his ability to play every position except catcher and pitcher.

  • Giants' Luke Williams: DFA'd by Giants

Williams was designated for assignment by the Giants on Saturday. The 25-year-old was sent down by the Giants in early May, and he'll lose his spot on the 40-man roster with the team choosing to select Michael Papierski's contract Saturday. Over 10 games at Triple-A Sacramento, Williams hit .378 with four doubles, eight runs, seven RBI and four stolen bases.

  • Giants' Luke Williams: Recalled from Triple-A

Williams was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Monday. Williams was sent to the minors last week, but he'll rejoin the Giants to provide depth after Mike Yastrzemski (illness) was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Monday. Williams has appeared in five major-league games this year and has gone 2-for-5 with a double, three RBI and a strikeout.

  • Giants' Luke Williams: Optioned, but eligible for twin bill

The Giants optioned Williams to Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Before reporting to Sacramento, Williams will be eligible to play for the Giants in Tuesday's doubleheader with the Mets after San Francisco designated him as its 29th man, according to Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News. The Giants will swap Williams, a righty-hitting utility man, off the 28-man active roster for a lefty-hitting one in Jason Vosler, who should give manager Gabe Kapler some more options off the bench late in games while lefty hitters LaMonte Wade (knee) and Tommy La Stella (Achilles) reside on the injured list. Williams had seen limited use in the Giants' first nine games, starting twice and logging just five plate appearances in total. He should get the chance to play on an everyday basis when he heads to Sacramento after Tuesday's doubleheader.

  • Giants' Luke Williams: Earns roster spot

Williams will be on the Giants' Opening Day roster, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Williams' defensive versatility makes him a good fit for a bench role. After hitting a modest .245/.315/.316 as a rookie last year, he may not get the chance to play regularly, even with a Giants team that rotates players frequently.

  • Giants' Luke Williams: Headed to Giants

Williams was traded from the Phillies to the Giants in exchange for Will Toffey on Sunday. Williams was recently designated for assignment by the Phillies, so he'll have the chance for a change of scenery with this trade. He reached the majors for the first time in his career in 2021 and managed a .245/.315/.316 line across 108 plate appearances. Williams is likely to start the season at Triple-A, though the Giants may have a need for right-handed bats in the outfield at some point in the 2022 campaign.

  • Phillies' Luke Williams: Designated for assignment

Williams was designated for assignment on Tuesday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. Williams had a memorable moment last season, hitting a walkoff homer in his first career start. His overall performance wasn't particularly impressive, however, as he hit .245/.315/.316 with a zero percent barrel rate in 108 trips to the plate. His defensive versatility and youth could nonetheless make him interesting enough for another team to claim off waivers. The move clears a roster spot for the newly-signed Nick Castellanos.

  • Phillies' Luke Williams: Sent back to Lehigh Valley

Williams was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday. Williams has gone hitless in three at-bats off the bench since being activated from the COVID-19 IL on Sept. 20. The club has decided to recall infielder Alec Bohm from Lehigh Valley, which leaves Williams as the odd man out on the 28-man roster. Assuming Williams does not return to the majors during the final five days of the season, he'll conclude his big-league campaign having hit .245/.315/.316 with one homer, four doubles and six RBI across 98 at-bats.

  • Phillies' Luke Williams: Returns from injured list

Williams was activated off the COVID-19 injured list Monday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. Williams has been out since testing positive for coronavirus in late August. He's been cleared to return after a lengthy 10-game rehab assignment in which he struggled to a .351 OPS. He'll fill a bench role for the Phillies down the stretch, as his .253/.324/.326 slash line through 105 plate appearances in his rookie season makes him ill-suited for everyday at-bats.
