  • Frank German: Cut by Boston

The Red Sox released German on Wednesday. German had attended big-league camp with the Red Sox as a non-roster invitee but didn't wind up making any appearances in the Grapefruit League before being reassigned to the minors. The 26-year-old righty reliever won't end up breaking camp with Triple-A Worcester and will now hit the open market in search of his next opportunity. German has five MLB appearances to his name, all of which came with Boston in the 2022 season.

  • Frank German: Cut loose by Cincy

The Reds released German on Thursday. German will move on from the Reds organization just two days after being activated from the 7-day injured list after he had been inactive for more than a month. Between stints with the Reds' and White Sox's Triple-A affiliates in 2023, German made 19 appearances and pitched to a 7.78 ERA over 19.2 innings. The 25-year-old right-hander previously made his big-league debut with Boston last season, making five appearances out of the bullpen.

  • Reds' Frank German: Outrighted to Triple-A

German was outrighted to Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday. German passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment by the Reds earlier this week. He'll remain at Louisville, where he has surrendered eight earned runs through 8.1 innings this year.

  • Reds' Frank German: Loses 40-man roster spot

Cincinnati designated German for assignment Monday. The Reds needed to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Andrew Abbott and German is the casualty. German has gone from the Red Sox to the White Sox and then to the Reds via waivers since January and could be on the move again.

  • Reds' Franklin German: Claimed by Cincy

The Reds claimed German off waivers from the White Sox on Monday and optioned him to Triple-A Louisville. German had been designated for assignment by the White Sox and has now found a new home. The 25-year-old has a big arm as evidenced by his 16 strikeouts in 11.1 innings this season at the Triple-A level. However, his nine walks and 7.15 ERA also points to how erratic he can be. The Reds will attempt to coax the most out of the reliever.

  • White Sox's Franklin German: Bumped off 40-man roster

The White Sox designated German for assignment Tuesday. German is losing his 40-man roster spot in a flurry of moves as the White Sox try to navigate through a highly disappointing 8-21 start to the 2023 campaign. The 25-year-old had allowed nine earned runs on 19 hits and nine walks through 11.1 innings of relief this season at Triple-A Charlotte.

  • White Sox's Franklin German: Sent to Triple-A

The White Sox optioned German to Triple-A Charlotte on Monday. Chicago acquired German from Boston in February in a deal that sent Theo Denlinger to the Red Sox. The right-hander stands a good chance of making appearances with the White Sox this summer, but he'll open the 2023 campaign in the International League.

  • Red Sox's Franklin German: Designated for assignment

German was designated for assignment by the Red Sox on Monday. It clears room on the 40-man roster for Richard Bleier after Bleier was acquired from Miami in the Matt Barnes trade. The right-hander allowed eight runs in four appearances with Boston in the 2022 campaign with a 4:4 K:BB over his four innings of work, but did pitch well with Triple-A Worcester in the second half of the season. There could be interest in German on the waiver wire.

  • Red Sox's Frank German: Traded to Red Sox

German was sent from the Yankees to the Red Sox along with Adam Ottavino on Monday in exchange for a player to be named later or cash, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports. German appears to be the sweetener to get the Red Sox to take on the money left on Ottavino's contract. German is at least a back-end starter prospect, possessing a fastball that can touch 98 mph but shaky command. It's possible such a profile winds up working out better in relief. The 23-year-old righty has so far topped out at High-A, where he produced a 3.79 ERA, a 25.3 percent strikeout rate and a 10.8 percent walk rate in 2019.
