Athletics' Hogan Harris: Blanks Houston in bulk role
Harris didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 6-3 loss to the Astros, allowing one hit and one walk over five scoreless innings of relief. He struck out five.
The rookie lefty was brilliant in a bulk relief role, tossing 54 of 77 pitches for strikes, but unfortunately for the A's, opener Austin Pruitt dug a quick 2-0 hole and the team's offense never closed the gap. Harris had just been called up from Triple-A Las Vegas earlier in the day, and while this was an impressive performance, he was just as impressively bad in his big-league debut back on April 14 against the Mets (six runs in one-third of an inning.) It's not clear what Oakland's plan is for Harris, but he's likely to get shuffled back to Vegas for a fresh arm with Paul Blackburn (finger) expected to rejoin the rotation Monday.

Athletics' Hogan Harris: Officially called up
Harris was called up from Triple-A Las Vegas and is expected to handle the bulk role Saturday against the Astros, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Harris will operate in a bulk role, following opener Austin Pruitt in what will be Harris' second appearance with the Athletics on Saturday. The left-hander was walloped for six earned runs on one hit and five walks while hitting a batter over one-third inning against the Mets on April 14. Since being sent down April 15, Harris has produced a 3.42 ERA and 1.18 WHIP with 25 punchouts over 26.1 in six starts with Las Vegas. In a corresponding move, Adrian Martinez was optioned to Triple-A to create a spot for Harris on the major-league roster.

Athletics' Hogan Harris: Pitching for big club Saturday
Athletics manager Mark Kotsay said Harris will be called up from Triple-A Las Vegas and is scheduled to pitch Saturday against the Astros, either as a starter or bulk-relief option out of the bullpen, Alex Espinoza IV of MLB.com reports.
Harris will be looking for redemption in his return to the big leagues after he recorded just one out and was charged with six earned runs on one hit and five walks while making his MLB debut in relief April 14 against the Mets. Since heading back to Triple-A, Harris has been operating as a starter and has produced a 3.42 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 25:11 K:BB across 26.1 innings over his last six outings with Las Vegas.

Athletics' Hogan Harris: Promoted to big leagues
Harris was recalled by the Athletics on Friday.
The 26-year-old lefty has yet to appear in a big-league game. Harris has made 10 starts in Triple-A since 2022 and holds a 6.34 ERA and 1.84 WHIP across 32.2 innings in that time. Adam Oller was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move, so Harris will most likely take Oller's spot in the bullpen as a multi-inning reliever.

Athletics' Hogan Harris: Sent to Triple-A
The Athletics optioned Harris to Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday.
Harris will head back to the Pacific Coast League for further refinement after the 26-year-old struggled in his first exposure to the level late in the 2022 season. The lefty earned the promotion to Triple-A after accruing a 1.67 ERA while striking out 48 over 32.1 innings at Double-A Midland, but he was lit up to the tune of a 6.35 ERA and 1.71 WHIP across his eight starts with Las Vegas.

Athletics' Hogan Harris: Protected from Rule 5 draft
Harris was added to the Athletics' 40-man roster Tuesday.
Harris turns 26 in December and has made just eight starts at Triple-A, logging a 6.35 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and 39:17 K:BB in 28.1 innings. Given his control issues and age, it might make sense for Harris to work in low-leverage situations out of the big-league bullpen at some point in 2023.

Athletics' Hogan Harris: Makes 2022 debut
Harris (undisclosed) came off High-A Lansing's 7-day injured list and made his season debut in Sunday's 13-5 loss to Fort Wayne, covering one inning and giving up three runs (two earned) on one hit and two walks while striking out two. He also hit a batter.
Making his first appearance in affiliated ball since the 2019 season, Harris had a shaky debut, needing 28 pitches to record three outs. The 25-year-old southpaw will look to improve his efficiency while upping his pitch counts in his subsequent starts for Lansing.
