  • David McKay: Cut loose by Oakland

The Athletics released McKay (undisclosed) on Friday.

Before he was removed from the Athletics' 40-man roster Thursday, McKay resided on Triple-A Las Vegas' 7-day injured list with an unspecified injury and hadn't appeared for the affiliate since Aug. 6. The 27-year-old reliever will now part ways with Oakland entirely and presumably look to rehab the injury on his own before signing with an organization this offseason.

  • Athletics' David McKay: Cast off 40-man roster

The Athletics designated McKay (undisclosed) for assignment Thursday.

He'll exit the 40-man roster to clear a spot for rookie left-hander Ken Waldichuk, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Las Vegas in advance of his scheduled start Thursday versus the Nationals. Since being optioned to Las Vegas on July 25, McKay made three relief appearances before landing on the affiliate's 7-day injured list Aug. 15 due to an unspecified issue. If he goes unclaimed on waivers, McKay will likely stick around in the Oakland organization as a member of Las Vegas' roster.
