Colorado optioned Toglia to Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Toglia has posted high-level power totals in the minors and showed some promise during his first taste of major-league action last season, but he was slashing just .174/.240/.217 in 25 plate appearances with the Rockies since being recalled May 15. Nolan Jones will join the big-league club in a corresponding roster move.... See More ... See Less

Rockies' Michael Toglia: Sits in favor of Moustakas
Toglia is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins. Mike Moustakas will step in at first base after Toglia had started at the position in five of the Rockies' previous seven games. The 24-year-old switch hitter is slashing .150/.190/.200 over 21 plate appearances with the big club this season, so he wouldn't seem to have much leash atop the depth chart while the Rockies continue to play without C.J. Cron (back).... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Michael Toglia: Getting another start
Toglia is starting at first base and batting seventh for the Rockies on Wednesday against the Phillies, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports. Toglia wasn't in the lineup Monday for the first game after his recall, but he's now started two straight -- this one is against a righty. Mike Moustakas is on the bench. The two should share first base while C.J. Cron (back) is out.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Michael Toglia: Recalled from minors
The Rockies recalled Toglia from Triple-A Albuquerque on Monday, Danielle Allentuck of The Denver Gazette reports. Toglia wasn't able to win an Opening Day roster spot but is up now to replace C.J. Cron (back), who was placed on the 10-day injured list. The 24-year-old turned in an .857 OPS with eight home runs over his 37 games with Albuquerque. Though Mike Moustakas is starting at first base Monday versus the Reds, the switch-hitting Toglia could be a candidate to fill a short-side platoon role at the position while Cron is on the shelf.... Rockies' Michael Toglia: Optioned out to Triple-A
Toglia was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque by the Rockies on Tuesday. The 24-year-old seemed to have a good chance of making the Opening Day roster in Colorado before the Rockies signed Jurickson Profar last week. Toglia posted impressive numbers in the upper minors last season before struggling badly with strikeouts upon his arrival to the majors. He struck out 24 times in 73 at-bats this spring in the Cactus League, though he did also produce a shiny .900 OPS. Toglia is likely to get another extended look in the early part of the 2023 regular season.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Michael Toglia: Smacks first spring homer
Toglia went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and three strikeouts in Sunday's Cactus League game against the Diamondbacks. Toglia was in the lineup at first base, though he'll be trying to crack the Opening Day roster as an outfielder. His chances of doing so have improved due to injuries to Sean Bouchard (biceps) and Randal Grichuk (groin), though he has struck out 12 times across 39 plate appearances through 13 games this spring. Toglia also struck out at a 36.7 percent clip in a 120 plate-appearance sample in Colorado to close the 2022 campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Michael Toglia: In better position for MLB roster
Toglia is better positioned for a spot on the Rockies' Opening Day roster with Sean Bouchard (biceps) out indefinitely, Danielle Allentuck of the Denver Gazette reports. Toglia was a mess offensively in his first taste of MLB action last season, striking out 44 times in 120 at-bats, but he worked diligently this winter on his timing to the baseball and barrel accuracy. Prior to his callup to the Rockies last August, the 24-year-old registered an .852 OPS with 30 home runs in 114 games between Double-A Hartford and Triple-A Albuquerque. He can play first base and the corner outfield while also functioning as an option at DH. That's a similar profile to Bouchard, who suffered a ruptured biceps muscle Wednesday.... See More ... Rockies' Michael Toglia: Ends season with four strikeouts
Toglia went 0-for-4 with four strikeouts Wednesday against the Dodgers. Toglia ended his season on a sour note, though he had collected at least one hit in his three prior games. He ended his rookie season with a .216/.275/.378 line across 120 plate appearances, and he had a concerning 36.7 percent strikeout rate.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Michael Toglia: Retreats to bench Saturday
Toglia isn't starting Saturday against the Dodgers. Toglia started the last four games and went 1-for-13 with a run, an RBI, two walks and five strikeouts. Sean Bouchard, Yonathan Daza and Randal Grichuk are starting in the outfield from left to right Saturday.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Michael Toglia: Struggling with strikeouts
Toglia went 0-for-4 with an RBI on Wednesday against the Giants. Toglia grounded out in the top of the ninth inning to drive in his 11th run of the season. Across his last 14 starts, Toglia has struck out at a 38.9 percent clip with a .160 average. Despite his struggles, he's maintained a consistent role in between first base and the outfield.... Rockies' Michael Toglia: Takes seat Sunday
Toglia is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres. Toglia will head to the bench after he struck out a career-high three times in Saturday's 9-3 loss, ending a streak of six consecutive starts. C.J. Cron (hand) is back in the lineup Sunday after a three-game absence, so Toglia is expected to primarily vie with fellow rookie Sean Bouchard for playing time in the corner outfield over the final week and a half of the season.... Rockies' Michael Toglia: Shows off speed Monday
Toglia went 3-for-4 with two triples, a run, two RBI and a stolen base in a loss to the Giants on Monday. Toglia isn't known for his speed, but he showed that he can get around the bases Monday. The rookie picked up his first two triples as well as his first stolen base as a big-leaguer in the loss. This was the first three-hit game of Toglia's major-league career and put an end to a cold snap during which he went 0-for-18 with 10 strikeouts over his previous five contests.... See More ... Rockies' Michael Toglia: Sleeper hitters for Week 25 (Sept. 19-25)
It's the last chance to take advantage of Coors Field for this power-hitting September call-up, though Toglia's strikeout tendencies could present a problem, particularly given the quality of the opposing pitchers.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Michael Toglia: Getting regular run
Toglia went 0-for-3 with a strikeout Friday against the Reds. Toglia was recalled Aug. 30 and slugged his first career home run one day later. While he's gone only 1-for-6 with three strikeouts since, the Rockies have found him regular playing time -- primarily in right field -- as he's been in the lineup in all four games since his promotion. In 495 plate appearances between Double-A Hartford and Triple-A Albuquerque, Toglia maintained a .252/.343/.513 line.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Michael Toglia: Slugs first big-league homer
Toglia went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in a loss to Atlanta on Wednesday. Toglia went hitless in four at-bats in his major-league debut Tuesday, but he rebounded with a pair of hits in his second game. His big knock was a two-run homer off Kenley Jansen in the ninth inning that brought the Rockies to within a run. Toglia pounded 30 home runs over 114 contests between two minor-league levels this season. There's a lot of swing-and-miss in his profile, but there's also plenty of power in his 6-foot-5 frame.... Rockies' Michael Toglia: Headed to Albuquerque
Toglia was promoted to Triple-A Albuquerque on Aug. 10. Toglia spent the entire season with Double-A Hartford, and he managed to maintain a .347 wOBA and 114 wRC+ across 420 plate appearances. He also struck out at a 30.2 percent clip, which will be something to monitor as he continues to progress through the upper levels of the minor leagues and into the majors. After playing exclusively at first base in 2021, Toglia has played a handful of games in right field -- a move that could accelerate his path to Colorado.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Michael Toglia: Rises to Double-A
The Rockies promoted Toglia from High-A Spokane to Double-A Hartford on Sunday, Dave Nichols of The Spokane Spokesman-Review reports. During his time at Spokane, the switch-hitting first baseman slashed .234/.333/.465 with seven stolen bases and a High-A West-leading 17 home runs. The 6-foot-5, 226-pound Toglia has also drawn favorable reviews for his defensive work at first base in addition to his power production at the dish. He'll likely remain with Hartford for the rest of the season.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Michael Toglia: Joins player pool
Toglia was added to the Rockies' 60-man player pool Monday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Toglia wasn't included on the 60-man roster during summer camp, but he'll head to the Rockies' alternate training site to develop among some of the club's top prospects. The 21-year-old is highly unlikely to appear in the majors this year, but he'll look to prepare for another season in the minors in 2021 after he hit .248/.369/.483 with nine home runs and 26 RBI over 41 games in his first season at the Rookie level in 2019.... Rockies' Michael Toglia: Collects three hits
Toglia went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, an RBI, a walk and three runs for Low-A Boise on Wednesday. Toglia had gone hitless since getting a knock in his professional debut last Friday, but he flashed some of the offensive prowess that led the Rockies to make him the No. 23 pick in the 2019 first-year player draft in this contest. The 6-foot-5, 200-pound switch-hitter slashed .314/.392/.624 with 17 homers and 65 RBI as a junior for UCLA last season.... See More ... See Less
