Edwin Jackson: Brings end to career
Jackson announced Friday via his personal Instagram account that he has retired from professional baseball.
Jackson's retirement came on his 39th birthday and 19 years after he made his big-league debut. The veteran right-hander went on to see action with an MLB-record 14 teams during his career, amassing a 107-133 record and 4.78 ERA across stops with the Dodgers, Rays, Tigers, Diamondbacks, White Sox, Cardinals, Nationals, Cubs, Atlanta, Marlins, Padres, Orioles, Athletics and Blue Jays. He made his only All-Star appearance with Detroit in 2009, tossed a no-hitter with Arizona in 2010 and won his lone World Series title with St. Louis in 2011.

The Diamondback released Jackson on Thursday, Andersen Pickard of MLBDailyDish.com reports.
Jackson joined the Diamondbacks in camp as a non-roster invitee prior to the COVID-19 outbreak but was likely facing an uphill battle to claim an Opening Day roster spot anyway. With active rosters potentially expanded for the upcoming season, Jackson could end up finding a home somewhere as a bullpen arm despite an uninspiring 2019 season.

Diamondbacks' Edwin Jackson: Signs with Arizona
Jackson joined the Diamondbacks as a non-roster invitee Monday, Evan Woodberry of MLive.com reports.
The 36-year-old appears to face an uphill battle in his quest for an Opening Day roster spot. In 67.2 innings for the Blue Jays and Tigers last season, he struggled to a 9.58 ERA while striking out just 15.5 percent of opposing batters.

Jackson (3-10) gave up five earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and two walks over five innings as he took the loss Sunday afternoon to the Orioles.
Jackson's struggles continued Sunday as he failed to eclipse the five-inning mark for the seventh consecutive outing. The right-hander has allowed at least four earned runs in each of his last six starts and has not registered a quality outing since Aug. 9. His ERA has now ballooned to 9.70. He's scheduled to take the mound next against the White Sox on Saturday at home.

Jackson survived the first inning by allowing only a solo home run to Brett Gardner. However, things broke open in the second frame, as he allowed four runners to reach base before recording an out -- surrendering five runs in all. After allowing just three earned runs across 11.1 innings in his first two starts with the team, Jackson has now allowed four or more earned runs in five consecutive appearances. He's scheduled to take the ball Sunday against Baltimore.

Jackson (3-9) allowed four runs on nine hits across five innings to take the loss Wednesday against the Royals. He struck out three and walked one.
Jackson pitched better than he did in his last start, when he allowed eight runs (six earned) in 2.1 innings against the Twins. However, the veteran was still relatively ineffective. With a 9.16 ERA through 57 innings this year, Jackson is squarely off the fantasy radar heading into his next start against an imposing Yankees lineup on Tuesday.

Jackson (3-8) took the loss Friday as the Tigers were routed 13-5 by the Twins, surrendering eight runs (six earned) on seven hits and three walks over only 2.1 innings. He struck out one.
Facing Minnesota for the second straight outing, the veteran needed 70 pitches (41 strikes) to record just seven outs, and the only bright spot in this latest disaster for Jackson was that he managed to keep the ball in the yard. He's now saddled with a 9.35 ERA and 39:25 K:BB through 52 innings on the year, and while his next turn in the rotation is set for Wednesday in Kansas City, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him bumped aside for a September callup.

Jackson (3-7) allowed six runs on seven hits over five innings to take the loss Saturday against the Twins. He walked two and struck out five.
Jackson started the game by allowing a leadoff home run to Max Kepler and a walk to Jorge Polanco, but he settled down and was able to work pretty quickly through four innings with just the one run allowed. However, things fell apart in the fifth, as the veteran allowed five hits, including a two-out, three-run homer to Miguel Sano. Jackson's ERA is now sitting at an unsightly 8.70, making him incredibly hard to trust, and it's not a given the Tigers keep him in the rotation moving forward.

The veteran right-hander had posted solid lines in his first two starts with the Tigers, but he couldn't keep it going in this contest, as he labored for 108 pitches in his five innings before getting chased. It's been a rough season for Jackson, as this brings his ERA up to 8.46 and his WHIP to 1.88 across 44.2 innings on the season between the Blue Jays and Tigers. Jackson lines up to face the Twins on the road Saturday in his next start, which projects to be another tough matchup.
