Gallinari (knee) said Sunday in an interview with Gianluca Bortolomai of AroundTheGame.com that his goal remains to return to game action at some point during the Celtics' postseason run. At the time he underwent surgery in late September to address a torn ACL sustained while playing for the Italian national team in EuroBasket 2022, Gallinari indicated that he wasn't ready to rule himself out for the 2022-23 season. Though Gallinari seems to have now dismissed the possibility of a regular-season return, he's been encouraged enough by his rehab thus far to remain focused on playing during the postseason. Gallinari has continued to conduct his rehab under the supervision of the Celtics' training staff and has even traveled for most of the team's road games, but Boston has yet to reveal when he'll be ready to resume on-court work. If Gallinari makes it back at some point during the playoffs, he'll likely be tasked with handling only a limited role off the bench.... See More ... See Less

Celtics' Danilo Gallinari: Plans to rehab in Boston
Gallinari (knee) said Tuesday he plans to do his rehab in Boston so he can be around the team, Jay King of The Athletic reports. Gallinari recently underwent successful surgery to repair the ACL in his left knee -- he was injured while playing for the Italian national team in EuroBasket 2022. However, the Celtics haven't ruled the talented forward out for the entire season, and when asked if he'll return this year, Gallinari said he's taking his rehab one day at a time.... See More ... Celtics' Danilo Gallinari: Undergoes successful surgery
The Celtics announced Friday that Gallinari underwent a successful left knee revision ACL repair. Gallinari was diagnosed with an ACL tear in his left knee while playing for the Italian national team in EuroBasket 2022 in late August. The Celtics didn't provide further clarity on the forward's expected return timetable, but a 6-to-12 month absence is typically associated with ACL procedures. As a result, Gallinari likely wont be able to make his Celtics debut until late in the regular season or playoffs, if at all.... See More ... See Less -
Celtics' Danilo Gallinari: Surgery forthcoming
Gallinari (knee) recently stated that he'll undergo surgery to repair a torn ACL in the next week to 10 days, Emiliano Carchia of Sportando.com reports. Gallinari was diagnosed with the ACL tear in his left knee while playing for the Italian national team in EuroBasket 2022 in late August. The Celtics will likely provide an update on Gallinari's outlook once surgery is completed, but the expected recovery time typically associated with the ACL procedure is 6-to-12 months. As a result, Gallinari likely won't be a candidate to play for the Celtics until late in the regular season or playoffs, if at all.... See More ... See Less -
Celtics' Danilo Gallinari: Suffers torn ACL
Gallinari was diagnosed with a torn ACL in his left knee Friday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. Gallinari sustained this non-contact injury while playing for the Italian national team overseas in EuroBasket 2022. He suffered this same knee injury in 2013. The 33-year-old is expected to miss the year, given that the typical recovery time for a torn ACL is 6-12 months following surgery. He would've been a key rotational piece for the Celtics as instant offense off the bench. Expect Grant Williams' role to increase as he takes over Gallinari's minutes.... See More ... See Less -
Celtics' Danilo Gallinari: Suffers torn meniscus
Gallinari was diagnosed Sunday with a torn meniscus in his left knee and is without a clear timeline to resume basketball activities, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. The diagnosis actually comes as fortunate news, as the Celtics feared that Gallinari suffered a non-contact torn ACL in the knee, which he injured while playing for the Italian national team overseas in EuroBasket 2022. Though he's been ruled out for the rest of the EuroBasket tournament, Gallinari's availability for the start of training camp in the fall will likely hinge on whether he needs surgery to address the injury. Even if Gallinari is able to treat the injury through rest and rehab, he still may not be a lock to gain full clearance in advance of the Celtics' season opener. The 33-year-old forward is expected to serve as a key depth piece in his first season with Boston.... See More ... See Less -
Celtics' Danilo Gallinari: ACL stable, MRI coming Sunday
Gallinari (knee) appears to have avoided an ACL injury but will undergo an MRI on Sunday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. Gallinari was helped off the court during Saturday's FIBA play following a non-contact knee injury suffered while attempting a eurostep. The damage seemed season-threatening at first, but he's apparently avoided anything quite that serious. More information should be available following the MRI.... See More ... See Less -
Celtics' Danilo Gallinari: Helped off floor during FIBA play
Gallinari was helped off the court after suffering a non-contact left knee injury Saturday during FIBA play, per a video from Yannis Psarakis of bnsports.gr. Gallinari suffered the injury while attempting to eurostep around a defender. He hobbled his way out of bounds before eventually being physically supported by teammates and team personnel on the way to the locker room. Cesare Milanti of OverTime reports the initial fear is the veteran tore his left cruciate ligaments, but an MRI will be performed Sunday.... See More ... See Less -
Celtics' Danilo Gallinari: Reportedly signs with Boston
Gallinari is expected to sign a deal with the Celtics on Sunday, Keith Smith of Spotrac.com reports. Gallinari was acquired by the Spurs in the trade that sent Dejounte Murray to the Hawks, but he was subsequently waived by the Spurs and officially became a free agent Sunday, per Smith. Last season, the veteran forward averaged 11.7 points and 4.7 rebounds while shooting 38.1 percent from deep across 66 appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Spurs' Danilo Gallinari: Will be waived by Spurs
Gallinari is expected to be waived by the Spurs, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. Gallinari was acquired by the Spurs on Wednesday in the trade that sent Dejounte Murray to the Hawks. However, the Spurs don't have plans for the veteran during the franchise's rebuild, so he'll be waived and be free to sign with a contender. Last season, the veteran averaged 11.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists while shooting 38.1 percent from deep across 66 appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Spurs' Danilo Gallinari: Headed to Spurs
Gallinari was traded from the Hawks to the Spurs on Wednesday, along with three future first-round picks and a draft swap, in exchange for Dejounte Murray, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. Rumors of a possible Murray trade began bubbling up in recent weeks, and the Hawks stepped up with a huge package of draft capital in order to bring the rangy guard to Atlanta to pair with Trae Young. Gallinari is essentially a throw-in in the deal, as he's set to make $21.4 million in 2022-23 on the final year of his deal. However, Gallinari's contract is only partially ($5 million) guaranteed if he's waived by the end of Wednesday, so it's very possible San Antonio could take that path in order to clear up further cap space. Last season, the veteran averaged 11.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists while shooting 38.1 percent from deep across 66 appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Hawks' Danilo Gallinari: Not starting Sunday
Gallinari isn't starting Sunday's Game 4 against the Heat on Sunday, Sarah K. Spencer of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Gallinari started in the last eight games and averaged 15.1 points and 4.5 rebounds in 30.9 minutes per game. However, he'll retreat to the bench since Clint Capela (knee) has been cleared to return to action.... See More ... See Less -
Hawks' Danilo Gallinari: Goes for 17 in playoff loss
Gallinari closed with 17 points (5-12 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 6-6 FT) and five rebounds in 29 minutes during Sunday's 115-91 loss to the Heat. Gallinari ended up as the leading scorer for Atlanta, but his contributions were not enough to mount any chance of a potential late turnaround. Gallinari has now scored at least 14 points in each of his three postseason appearances -- including the Play-In Tournament -- and should remain one of Atlanta's main offensive threats ahead of Game 2 on Tuesday.... Hawks' Danilo Gallinari: Posts 26 points in finale
Gallinari amassed 26 points (9-14 FG, 6-8 3Pt, 2-2 FT), four rebounds, two assists and one block across 32 minutes during Sunday's 130-114 victory over the Rockets. Gallinari has played exceptionally well amid John Collins' (finger) absence, although there have been some scoring hiccups along the way. If Collins is able to return for the play-in game, Gallinari would face a regression in production and retreat back to the bench.... See More ... See Less -
Hawks' Danilo Gallinari: Double-doubles in return
Gallinari closed with 26 points (11-19 FG, 4-7 3Pt), 10 rebounds, one assist and one steal in 39 minutes during Wednesday's 118-103 win over Washington. Gallinari drew the start in his return from a one-game absence due to left knee inflammation and played a team-high 39 minutes. The veteran forward was efficient from the field and fell one point shy of his season high. He also grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds en route to his second double-double of the campaign. Gallinari has been sidelined for four of the Hawks' past eight games due to various issues, but based on his performance Wednesday, those absences can likely be attributed to rest, as he appears to be at his best heading into postseason play.... Hawks' Danilo Gallinari: Good to go, starting Wednesday
Gallinari (knee) is available and will start Wednesday's game against the Wizards, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports. Gallinari missed Tuesday's loss to the Raptors due to inflammation in his left knee, but he'll return to the starting lineup for Wednesday's tilt with Washington. As a result, Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot will shift back to a bench role. Gallinari is averaging 11.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 25.0 minutes per game this season.... See More ... See Less -
Hawks' Danilo Gallinari: Listed questionable yet again
Gallinari (knee) is questionable for Wednesday's game against Washington, Brad Rowland of Locked On Hawks reports. A combination of several minor injuries have rendered the veteran a game-time call for the last several games, and he most recently was held out of Tuesday's loss at Toronto with swelling in his left knee. The Hawks are hoping to get Gallinari back on the second half of the back-to-back, but his status likely won't be known until close to game time.... See More ... See Less -
Hawks' Danilo Gallinari: Out at Toronto
Gallinari (knee) is out Tuesday against the Raptors. After two straight appearances, Gallinari will need to take a seat due to left knee inflammation. Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot should see more minutes. Jalen Johnson and Kevin Knox could also see time.... See More ... See Less -
Hawks' Danilo Gallinari: Dealing with knee inflammation
Gallinari is questionable for Tuesday's game in Toronto due to left knee inflammation, Brad Rowland of PeachtreeHoops.com reports. Gallinari has operated off the bench in back-to-back contests following a two-game absence due to an elbow injury, but he's now dealing with a knee issue. If the veteran forward is sidelined, Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot and Kevin Knox would be candidates for increased roles with John Collins (foot) still out.... See More ... See Less -
Hawks' Danilo Gallinari: Pops for 15 off bench
Gallinari ended with 15 points (5-9 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 3-4 FT), five rebounds, one assist and one steal across 25 minutes off the bench during Saturday's 122-115 win over the Nets. The veteran forward led the Hawks' second unit in scoring, providing some balance to the offense that the Nets sorely lacked as only Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving scored in double digits for Brooklyn. Gallinari has missed four games since the beginning of March with various bumps and bruises, but he's been productive when on the court, averaging 13.3 points, 5.1 boards, 2.2 assists and 1.6 threes in 14 games over that stretch....
