  • Pistons' Malachi Flynn: Crashes down to earth Friday

Flynn accumulated three points (0-12 FG, 0-7 3Pt, 3-4 FT), one rebound, six assists and two steals over 23 minutes during Friday's 108-90 loss to the Grizzlies. Flynn was coming off a career-high 50 points in the loss to the Hawks on Wednesday, but he regressed and crashed down to earth Friday. However, this two-game stretch might be the best way to summarize Flynn's career, as he can be extremely inconsistent with his scoring figures on a game-to-game basis. No one would've expected him to miss all of his 12 field goals just two days after scoring 50 points, and Flynn will aim to bounce back against the Nets on Saturday.

  • Pistons' Malachi Flynn: Erupts for career-high 50 points

Flynn totaled 50 points (18-25 FG, 5-9 3Pt, 9-12 FT), six rebounds, five assists and three steals across 34 minutes off the bench in Wednesday's 121-113 loss to the Hawks. For the first month after he was acquired Feb. 8 in a trade with the Knicks, Flynn was an inconsistent member of the Pistons' rotation, but his role has been trending upward of late while Detroit has held out several key players with injuries. Cade Cunningham (knee) was a late scratch Wednesday and joined six other Pistons in street clothes, and while Flynn didn't replace him in the starting five, Cunningham's absence paved the way for the San Diego State product to turn in what was far and away a career-best performance. Flynn nearly doubled up his previous career-best total of 27 points and became just the third reserve player in NBA history to reach the 50-point mark in a game, joining Jamal Crawford (51 for the Suns in 2019) and Nick Anderson (50 for the Magic in 1993). In addition to the big scoring night on efficient shooting, Flynn also set or matched his season highs in rebounds and steals. Flynn will be in store for a role reduction if Cunningham is back for the Pistons' next game Friday in Memphis, but the huge performance certainly puts Flynn on the radar as a streaming option if Cunningham misses any contests over the final week and a half of the season.

  • Pistons' Malachi Flynn: Stuffs stat sheet Monday

Flynn finished with 14 points (5-12 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 2-2 FT), four rebounds, three assists, one block and two steals over 30 minutes during Monday's 124-99 loss to New York. Flynn posted a solid stat line off the bench in a game where the Pistons looked overmatched. He is not going to have a lot of upside if he continues to play off the bench for a team that's already out of playoff contention.

  • Pistons' Malachi Flynn: Posts season high off bench in loss

Flynn contributed 17 points (6-12 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 2-3 FT), four rebounds, four assists and one steal across 25 minutes during Sunday's 114-101 loss to New Orleans. Flynn connected on a team-high-tying trio of threes while leading all Pistons bench players in assists and posting a team-high-tying point total in a losing effort. Flynn set a new season high in scoring, having crossed the double-digit mark in six games this year. His previous season high in scoring was 14 points, which occurred Nov. 22 with the Raptors in a game against Indiana.

  • Pistons' Malachi Flynn: Scores 11 in shorthanded backcourt

Flynn posted 11 points (3-8 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 3-4 FT), two rebounds, one assist and two steals in 18 minutes during Monday's 119-94 loss to the Celtics. Flynn set a new personal high for his Detroit tenure with 18 minutes of action Monday, although the 25-year-old has been an inconsistent part of the rotation of late, picking up five healthy scratches across Detroit's last eight games. Flynn could once again be subtracted from the rotation if Cade Cunningham (knee) is able to return Wednesday versus Indiana.

  • Pistons' Malachi Flynn: Moved off injury report

Flynn isn't on the injury report for Tuesday's game versus the Lakers. Flynn wasn't available for Saturday's 112-106 loss to the Clippers after the Pistons acquired him from the Knicks two days prior, but he'll suit up Tuesday after getting the chance to practice with his new team over the weekend. Now in his third organization of the season, Flynn may not be a major priority for Detroit, especially while the team is at close to full strength in the backcourt. If Flynn does enter the rotation Tuesday, he would likely take over the backup point guard role that belonged to Shake Milton in Saturday's loss. Milton played only 12 minutes in that contest, so the backup role isn't one that carries much fantasy appeal.

  • Pistons' Malachi Flynn: Packaged to Detroit

The Pistons acquired Flynn, Quentin Grimes, Evan Fournier, Ryan Arcidiacono and two second-round picks from the Knicks on Thursday in exchange for Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. Flynn is likely included in this trade package to match salaries. The 25-year-old guard is averaging 4.2 points, 1.8 assists and 1.6 rebounds in 11.9 minutes across 45 appearances between the Knicks and Raptors this season. While Flynn is unlikely to get much fantasy consideration, he could receive an increase in playing time for a rebuilding Pistons team.

  • Knicks' Malachi Flynn: Available Friday

Flynn (ankle) is available for Friday's game against the 76ers, Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Flynn is cleared to make his Knicks debut after being traded by Toronto as part of the package deal that landed OG Anunoby in New York. It's unclear where Flynn fits into the rotation, as Donte DiVincenzo, Josh Hart, Quentin Grimes and Miles McBride should get plenty of run at shooting guard.

  • Knicks' Malachi Flynn: Questionable for Friday

Flynn (ankle) is listed as questionable for Friday's game versus Philadelphia. Due to a right ankle sprain, Flynn has yet to make his Knicks debut since being traded from Toronto. However, his upgraded status to questionable is a good sign that he is nearing a return.

  • Knicks' Malachi Flynn: Won't debut Monday

Flynn will not play Monday against Minnesota due to a right ankle sprain. It's unclear if Flynn would have suited up if healthy after being acquired by the Knicks on Saturday morning, but his injury will preclude his debut regardless. Wednesday against Chicago will be his next opportunity to take the court, and he'll likely slot in as a third-string point guard behind Jalen Brunson and Miles McBride when active.

  • Knicks' Malachi Flynn: Part of Anunoby deal

The Raptors traded Flynn, O.G. Anunoby and Precious Achiuwa to the Knicks in exchange for RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley and draft considerations Saturday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. Flynn could see minutes as the backup point guard behind Jalen Brunson, though Miles McBride figures to also factor into the mix. The San Diego State product had been struggling to see consistent playing time in Toronto, averaging 4.6 points, 2.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 13.5 minutes through 11 December appearances.

  • Raptors' Malachi Flynn: Scores 10 points off bench

Flynn ended with 10 points (4-5 FG, 2-2 3Pt), four rebounds and four assists in 17 minutes during Monday's 136-130 loss to the Knicks. Flynn managed double-digit points for just the third time this season, popping for 10 points in 17 minutes. While Flynn does have the ability to score in bunches, his role is typically too insignificant to warrant any real fantasy attention. Sitting just inside the top 300 in standard leagues, there is no reason to prioritize him at all.

  • Raptors' Malachi Flynn: Efficient off bench

Flynn ended with 14 points (6-8 FG, 2-3 3Pt), four rebounds, two assists and one block over 20 minutes during Wednesday's 132-131 win over the Pacers. Flynn had been held to single-digit scoring totals in his five appearances before Wednesday's matchup, but he topped 10 points for the second time this year during the Raptors' narrow win over the Pacers. He's topped 20 minutes of playing time in five of his last seven appearances, averaging 8.1 points, 2.7 assists and 2.3 rebounds in 21.7 minutes per game.

  • Raptors' Malachi Flynn: Makes defensive impact off bench

Flynn accumulated two points (1-3 FG, 0-1 3Pt), three rebounds, four assists and three steals over 19 minutes during Wednesday's 130-111 victory over Milwaukee. Flynn played a season-high 19 minutes Wednesday and led the Raptors in steals. While he has yet to score in double figures this season, Flynn has recorded at least one steal in four of his five appearances.

  • Raptors' Malachi Flynn: Solidifying bench role

Flynn scored 13 points (5-7 FG, 3-5 3Pt) while adding five rebounds and three assists in 20 minutes off the bench during Friday's 134-98 preseason win over the Wizards. Dennis Schroder will replace Fred VanVleet as the Raptors' starting point guard this season, but Flynn could finally be ready to handle a consistent role off the bench in 2023-24 after being a late first-round pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. The 25-year-old saw only 13 minutes a night over 53 games last season, but that number could rise significantly with Toronto lacking any other real options at the point -- Flynn played 20 minutes in three of his four preseason appearances. Whether that translates into useful fantasy numbers is another question though, as some distribution duties could be off-loaded to Scottie Barnes (foot), Jakob Poeltl and others in VanVleet's absence.

  • Raptors' Malachi Flynn: Scores five points

Flynn produced five points (1-6 FG, 1-4 3PT, 2-2 FT), five rebounds, five assists and three turnovers across 20 minutes during Sunday's 112-99 preseason win over the Kings. Dennis Schroder got the nod as the starting point guard, but it looks like Flynn is the favorite to be the primary backup. He's in a good position to play much more than last season when he averaged just 13.0 minutes across 53 games.

  • Raptors' Malachi Flynn: Returns to bench

Flynn isn't in the starting lineup for Wednesday's Play-In Game versus the Bulls, Blake Murphy of Sportsnet.ca reports. Flynn will be replaced by Fred VanVleet in the starting five Wednesday. Despite starting in the regular-season finale, Flynn is unlikely to see extended playing time, averaging 1.8 points in 7.6 minutes across his last five appearances off the bench.

  • Raptors' Malachi Flynn: Pops for 20 against Bucks

Flynn accumulated 20 points (7-14 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 4-4 FT), four rebounds, four assists and one steal in 36 minutes during Sunday's 121-105 victory over Milwaukee. The third-year guard set a new season high in scoring on the season's final day, but it was also the first time Flynn has seen more than 19 minutes since late December. The Raptors still lack reliable depth at point guard behind Fred VanVleet heading into the play-in tournament, however, so Flynn's performance Sunday might have been enough to earn him a bigger role off the bench Wednesday in a must-win game against the Bulls.

  • Raptors' Malachi Flynn: Starting season finale

Flynn is in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Bucks. Flynn moves into the starting lineup Sunday with Fred VanVleet (thumb) out. This will be just his second start of the campaign, and he posted eight points with three assists in his previous one against the Nets on Nov. 23.

  • Raptors' Malachi Flynn: Plays 17 minutes in win

Flynn had five points (1-8 FG, 1-6 3Pt, 2-2 FT), two rebounds and one block across 17 minutes during Friday's 118-97 win over the Pistons. Flynn remained a relevant piece for the Raptors but failed to make the most of his opportunity. He has been in and out of the rotation for most of the season, playing only when injuries to other players allow. Even as the primary backup, Flynn is not worth picking up in fantasy outside of deeper formats.
