Injuries and age have caught up with cornerback Antoine Winfield, who told the Seahawks on Saturday that he planned on retire, according to ESPN.

The 36-year-old Winfield was signed by Seattle in the offseason to replace Marcus Trufant as the nickel corner, but injuries kept him out of the last two preseason games and allowed young corners such as Byron Maxwell and Jeremy Lane to show their talents.

Winfield played 14 seasons in the NFL, mostly as a starter with Buffalo and Minnesota. He finished his career with 27 interceptions and three Pro Bowl berths with the Vikings.
