  • Morgan Burnett: Retires from football

Burnett announced his retirement Monday, Mike Spofford of the Packers' official site reports.

Burnett suffered an Achilles tear in November of 2019 and was out of football in 2020. Now 32 years old, he'll call it quits after 10 NFL seasons and 133 games (including 11 in the playoffs). Burnett spent eight years with the Packers and reached triple-digit tackles three times in that span, achieving elite IDP status before injuries started to catch up with him in his mid-to-late 20s. He retires with 769 tackles (540 solo), 52 pass defenses, 10 interceptions and eight forced fumbles.

Burnett will miss the rest of the season with a torn Achilles, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

Burnett sustained the injury late in the second quarter of Thursday's 21-7 win over the Steelers. To that point, Burnett was having his best game of the season with five tackles -- including one for a loss -- two passes defensed and an interception. • Browns' Morgan Burnett: Torn Achilles feared

Burnett is believed to have sustained a torn Achilles during Thursday's 21-7 win over the Steelers, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Burnett was forced out of Thursday's divisional tilt on a non-contact play just prior to halftime. He's scheduled for an MRI on Friday, which will reveal the full extent of his injury, but there's major cause for concern that the veteran may be sidelined for at least the remainder of the season. If Burnett is indeed forced to miss significant time, Juston Burris, Eric Murray (knee) and Sheldrick Redwine will be candidates to play expanded roles on defense going forward.

  • Browns' Morgan Burnett: Out for game with Achilles injury

Burnett has been ruled out for the remainder of Thursday's game against the Steelers due to an Achilles injury, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Burnett went down on a non-contact play just before halftime, which is cause for major concern. A torn Achilles would likely sideline the veteran for the remainder of the season, but look for more updates on the extent of the injury to come in the following days. Before exiting the contest, Burnett recorded five tackles, two passes defensed and an interception. Juston Burris and Sheldrick Redwine are likely to see increased reps for the remainder of Thursday's game.
