  • Bears' Justin Fields: Help on the way

Fields, after a Friday trade with the Carolina Panthers, will now have a true No. 1 wide receiver in DJ Moore. During the 2022 season, Fields' top receiving options were Darnell Mooney and Cole Kmet. With three seasons of at least 1,157 receiving yards since 2019, Fields now has a star receiver who may not have reached his ceiling due to the bad offenses he was on with the Panthers. We've already seen Fields rush for 1,143 yards. Now, It's likely the Bears are ready to open up the passing attack to see if their quarterback can be an elite passer as well. Due to his uncertainly as a passer, Fields still carries risk, but it's reasonable to view him as a top-eight fantasy option, with a higher ceiling, in 2023 drafts.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Ruled out for Week 18

Fields is dealing with a strained hip and has been ruled out for Sunday's season finale against the Vikings. With Fields sitting out the contest, Nathan Peterman will start at quarterback for the Bears. Fields will thus finish the 2022 campaign having completed 192 of 318 passing attempts (60.4 percent) for 2,242 yards, 17 touchdowns and 11 interceptions to go along with 160 carries for 1,143 yards and eight rushing scores in 15 games. Looking ahead to next season, Fields' dual-threat ability will make him a coveted fantasy asset, though he'll need to prove that he's making progress as a passer. The Bears are likely to surround him with several new pass-catching options in 2023 after few of his current weapons emerged as reliable targets this season. Fields will be going into the third year of his rookie contract that runs through 2024.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Mixed results in defeat

Fields completed seven of 21 passes for 75 yards with a touchdown and interception to go with 132 rushing yards on 10 carries in the Bears' 41-10 loss to the Lions on Sunday. Fields had 100 rushing yards and his touchdown in the first quarter, but he was held in check the rest of the way. This was his second disappointing fantasy performance in a row, though he'll have a chance to end the year on a high note next week at home against the Vikings.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: QBs to Start

Fields is dealing with foot and shoulder injuries that are worth monitoring, but as long as he plays you should expect him to produce at a high level. He has a great matchup in Week 17 at Detroit, and he beat up the Lions in Week 10 for 167 passing yards, two touchdowns and one interception, along with 147 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Fields needs 196 rushing yards to break Lamar Jackson's record of most rushing yards by a quarterback (1,206) set in 2019, and it would be awesome if he did that over the next two games. It also helps that six of the past seven quarterbacks against Detroit has scored at least 22 Fantasy points.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Good to go for Week 17

Fields (foot) isn't listed on Chicago's Week 17 injury report ahead of Sunday's game in Detroit. Fields has been playing through a left shoulder injury since Week 13 and had his foot stepped on in Saturday's loss to Buffalo, with the quarterback noting Wednesday that the latter injury is "fine" after he dealt with some swelling the past few days, per Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times. Head coach Matt Eberflus said Monday that he won't shut Fields down for the season so long as he's healthy enough to play, and that's apparently the case for Week 17 in a potential shootout with the Lions.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Muted performance in loss

Fields completed 15 of 23 passes for 119 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions and rushed seven times for 11 yards in the Bears' 35-13 loss to the Bills on Saturday. He also recovered a fumble. Fields averaged just 5.2 yards per attempt and took a pair of sacks while turning in his lowest rushing yardage total of the campaign. The highly mobile signal-caller's one touchdown toss came to Dante Pettis from six yards out for the first score of the game for either squad, giving Fields at least one touchdown through the air in nine of the last 10 games. He'll next draw a much more fantasy-friendly matchup in a Week 17 road divisional clash with the Lions on Sunday, Jan. 1.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: QBs to Start

This isn't an easy matchup for Fields since the Eagles are No. 4 in fewest Fantasy points allowed to opposing quarterbacks, but I'll still start him based on his rushing upside. He's run for at least 60 yards and a touchdown in six games in a row, and the last time we saw him in Week 13 against Green Bay he had a season-high 254 passing yards. Unfortunately, he had two interceptions against the Packers, but hopefully he can limit the turnovers against the Eagles. If Fields doesn't make too many mistakes, he could be a top-five quarterback in Week 15.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Start Him (Lineup Decisions)

Fields' upside as a runner makes him a must-start Fantasy quarterback, especially since the Eagles defense has been so bad against running quarterbacks without facing the likes of Lamar Jackson or Josh Allen. If he can make some plays through the air, he'll definitely deliver a good game. I'd start him over Tua Tagovailoa, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady and Geno Smith.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Sits out practice with illness

Fields won't practice Wednesday due to an illness, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports. Though Fields isn't practicing Wednesday, head coach Matt Eberflus told Biggs that the quarterback is "day-to-day" and isn't dealing with a significant ailment. Assuming Fields' condition doesn't worsen and he's able to make it back to practice Thursday and/or Friday, he should be able to start Sunday's game against the Eagles.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Costly turnovers in return

Fields completed 20 of 25 passes for 254 yards and two interceptions in Sunday's 28-19 loss to the Packers. He also rushed six times for 71 yards and a touchdown. Fields returned from his one-game absence to make a big impact early, ripping off a 55-yard touchdown run during the first quarter. The signal-caller subsequently completed long passes of 56 and 49 yards and racked up a streak of double-digit completions prior to a pair of costly turnovers to end the game. With interceptions in opposing territory on both of his last two drives, Fields' day ended on a sour note despite his otherwise efficient and explosive effort. He'll now embark on Chicago's bye week prior to facing the first-place Eagles in Week 15.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Will return Sunday

Fields (shoulder) practiced fully Friday and doesn't have a designation for Sunday's contest against the Packers, Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com reports. With back-to-back uncapped practices under his belt to cap Week 13 prep, Fields is healthy enough to play through the separated shoulder with partially torn ligaments in his left, non-throwing shoulder. He'll thus miss just one game as a result, and his upcoming foe is a familiar one in an NFC North rival. Green Bay's defense allowed Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts to run rampant for 157 yards on 17 carries this past Sunday, so Fields has an appealing matchup with which to continue his run of success prior to sitting out Week 12.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Begins week with limited practice

Bears head coach Matt Eberflus said Wednesday that Fields (shoulder) will practice in a limited capacity, and added that the quarterback's status for Sunday's game against the Packers remains unclear, Jason Lieser of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Eberflus called Fields day-to-day, per Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune. Though Fields is dealing with a sprain of his non-throwing shoulder, the Bears likely want to ensure the dual-threat signal-caller isn't hindered by the injury as both a runner and passer before clearing him to play. Meanwhile, backup Trevor Siemian (oblique) -- who started for Chicago in the Week 12 loss to the Jets -- isn't practicing Wednesday, perhaps prompting the Bears' signing of Tim Boyle from the Lions' practice squad to provide extra depth to the position group.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Has chance to return in Week 13

Coach Matt Eberflus said after Sunday's 31-10 road loss to the Jets that Fields (shoulder) remains "day-to-day" and will have a chance to play next Sunday against the Packers, Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com reports. "We think that he's getting better," Eberflus added. Near the end of a Week 11 loss in Atlanta, Fields suffered a separated shoulder that included partially torn ligaments in his left, non-throwing arm. The injury resulted in a cap on his practice reps Wednesday through Friday, but it wasn't enough to gain clearance for game action. Eberflus elaborated on the decision Sunday, telling Cronin that Fields "did not have the strength to protect himself in the game properly and perform the way he wanted to perform." Fields may not need to log a full practice during Week 13 prep in order to suit up next weekend, but it would help his case as he seeks to return to action. Working in place of Fields this Sunday, Trevor Siemian completed 14 of 25 passes for 179 yards, one touchdown and one interception and recorded four carries for eight yards.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Not likely to play in Week 12

Fields (shoulder), who is listed as questionable, will get a chance to warm up before Sunday's game at the Jets, but he doesn't seem likely to be available, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Adam Schefter of ESPN backed up Rapoport's assessment, which will be confirmed, one way or another, about 90 minutes before Sunday's 1 p.m. ET kickoff. Assuming Fields doesn't gain clearance to play through the separated shoulder with partially torn ligaments that he sustained in his non-throwing arm near the end of last Sunday's loss in Atlanta, the Bears will turn to Trevor Siemian under center, with the recently elevated Nathan Peterman backing him up. In that scenario, Fields' next chance to suit up will arrive Dec. 4 against the Packers.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Status in question

The Bears elevated third-string quarterback Nathan Peterman on Saturday, which would seem to signal Fields' (shoulder) eventual absence ahead of the Week 12 matchup, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. It's important to note the Bears did not rule out Fields as of now, but NFL teams typically do not carry three active quarterbacks on the gameday roster, so this elevation is especially noteworthy. The dynamic dual-threat quarterback was a limited participant in practice all week, but should he eventually be ruled inactive ahead of the 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff, Trevor Siemian would likely get the start.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Deemed questionable, game-time call

Fields (shoulder) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Jets, Larry Mayer of the Bears' official site reports. "We've got 48 hours to assess that," head coach Matt Eberflus said, when asked Friday if Fields will play this weekend. The Bears listed Fields as a limited practice participant for the third straight day Friday, and Eberflus' comments afterward suggest the quarterback is truly questionable and should be viewed as a game-time decision ahead of the 1 p.m. ET kickoff. The signal-caller's running could be scaled back somewhat if he ends up playing, as Fields acknowledged Wednesday that he's feeling significant pain from the separation and partial ligament tear in his non-throwing shoulder. Trevor Siemian will get the start if Fields doesn't this Sunday.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Has torn ligaments in shoulder

Fields said Wednesday that the injury to his non-throwing arm is a separated shoulder with partially torn ligaments, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. The Bears aren't conducting a full practice to kick off Week 12 prep, but Fields will be listed as a limited participant on the team's estimated practice report, head coach Matt Eberflus told Larry Mayer of the Bears' official site earlier Wednesday. Per Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune, Fields himself added that he'll plan to play Sunday at the Jets if he believes he can play through the injury while protecting his shoulder. Before a decision on his status is made, Fields seems poised to test out his injured shoulder Wednesday through Friday in order for he and the Bears to come to a consensus. If he's unable to play, Fields will yield the start under center to backup Trevor Siemian.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Status for Week 12 up in air

Coach Matt Eberflus didn't elaborate on the nature of Fields' injury to his left, non-throwing shoulder Monday, Larry Mayer of the Bears' official site reports. "The injury report comes out Wednesday, and right now it's day-to-day," Eberflus said. "We'll see where it is and go from there." Fields initially picked up the concern when he landed hard on his left shoulder on the first play of the Bears' final drive this past Sunday in Atlanta. After staying on the turf for a spell, he remained in the contest and took another hit to that shoulder on the very next play, which was followed by the game-sealing interception. Overall, Fields finished with 153 yards passing, one touchdown and the pick to go with 85 yards on the ground and another score. On Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that Fields dislocated his shoulder, but such a diagnosis hasn't been confirmed. In any case, Fields' status will be watched closely as the week goes on to get a sense of if he's in danger of sitting out Sunday's road game against the Jets.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Reportedly dislocates left shoulder

Fields suffered a left (non-throwing) shoulder dislocation during Sunday's loss to the Falcons, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The report adds that coach Matt Eberflus described Fields as "day-to-day" at this stage, with the QB's status for this weekend's game against the Jets yet to be determined. If Fields ends up being unable to play Sunday, Trevor Siemian would be in line to draw the start in his place.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Considered day-to-day

Coach Matt Eberflus said Monday that Fields (shoulder) is day-to-day, Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com reports. Fields suffered a left shoulder injury during a broken play in Sunday's loss to the Falcons and was scheduled for an MRI on Monday. The details of the evaluation remain unclear, but it appears the quarterback has avoided a worst-case scenario. Eberflus added, "We'll see where he is on Wednesday." As a result, his availability for Week 12 should become clearer as the week progresses. Luckily, the injury is to Fields' non-throwing shoulder, but the issue still may limit his rushing attempts moving forward. If he's sidelined Sunday, Trevor Siemian presumably would operate as Chicago's primary signal-caller.
