Allen (undisclosed) was released by the Dolphins on Saturday after reaching an injury settlement, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Allen suffered his injury in the latter half of the preseason, and it's unclear how severe the issue is. He's now a free agent, and he'll be able to sign and play for another team as soon as he's healthy.

This comes as a bit of a surprise, as Allen was activated off the PUP list earlier in the week. The 29-year-old adds experience and strong blocking ability to the Dolphins' tight-end mix, but after combining for just 13 catches over the last two seasons with the Patriots, the free-agent addition needs to prove his fantasy utility within his new team context. It's worth noting that during Allen's stint with the Colts -- the team that drafted him in 2012 -- he recorded eight touchdowns in 2014 and six in 2016. Patriots' Dwayne Allen: No targets in Super Bowl win
Allen didn't draw any targets while playing 21 of 72 offensive snaps Sunday in the Patriots' 13-3 win over the Rams in Super Bowl LIII.
As usual, Allen was limited to a blocking role during his time on the field and finished the postseason without any targets. Allen is under contract through 2019 but probably won't be in store for a significant role in the Patriots' passing game even if top tight end Rob Gronkowksi opts to retire over the offseason.
