Carpenter (illness) was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, Amie Just of NOLA.com reports.
Carpenter will provide guard depth for the Saints now that he's back. Cesar Ruiz and Calvin Throckmorton should continue to start at right guard and left guard, respectively.

Saints' James Carpenter: Out with COVID
Carpenter was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday after testing positive for the virus, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Carpenter joined New Orleans' active roster last week but will quickly be unavailable due to COVID-19. He'll only have a couple days to clear the health and safety protocols before having to sit out Week 16.

The Ravens signed Carpenter to the practice squad Wednesday, Clifton Brown of the team's official site reports.
Carpenter is an experienced veteran, but he dealt with injuries over the last three seasons. The 32-year-old will provide Baltimore with some reliable emergency depth for the interior of the offensive line.

The Falcons released Carpenter on Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
The Falcons created approximately $4 million in cap space with this move. Carpenter will hit free agency after starting 13 games in 2020. The 31-year-old guard has dealt with a myriad of injuries over the past three seasons, missing 14 total games.

Falcons' James Carpenter: Starts 13 times in 2020
Carpenter, who overcame a groin injury to suit up Week 17 against the Buccaneers, concluded the 2020 campaign with 13 starts.
Carpenter has two more years under contract with the Falcons, though according to Spotrac, there is a potential out in his deal this offseason that would cost the organization a dead cap hit of $2.4 million. The 31-year-old has been plagued by injury in recent campaigns, missing a combined 14 games between 2018 and 2020. He did, however, go without a single committed penalty over 827 offensive snaps this season.

Carpenter (groin) was limited during Wednesday's practice session, Jason Butt of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Carpenter sat out Atlanta's Week 16 loss to Kansas City, handing the veteran lineman his third game absence since the start of December. He was unable to participate in any capacity last week while coping with his groin injury, so Carpenter seems to be trending in a positive direction as Atlanta prepares for its season finale against the Buccaneers.

Carpenter tried to play through his groin issue Week 15 against Tampa Bay, but he seemingly re-aggravated the injury during the game and subsequently didn't practice in any capacity this week. It seems unlikely that the 31-year-old will make it back for Atlanta's season finale in Week 17.

Carpenter (groin) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, William McFadden of the Falcons' official site reports.
A groin issue kept the 31-year-old out of the lineup for a second consecutive game last Sunday during a loss to the Chargers, and now he's seemingly re-aggravated the issue in his return to action. Carpenter was limited all throughout the practice week coming into Sunday, ultimately showing enough to trainers to overcome a questionable designation. Given the midgame injury, Justin McCray will fill Atlanta's left guard spot until Carpenter makes it back onto the field.

Carpenter had to sit down for a second consecutive game last Sunday during a loss to the Chargers, but he was able to practice in a limited capacity throughout the subsequent week.
