Bills' Trent Murphy: Officially scratched Monday
Murphy (coach's decision) is inactive for Monday's game versus the Chiefs, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.
As expected, Murphy will serve as a healthy scratch for Monday's AFC showdown. The Bills are looking for a spark after a tough loss to the Titans in Week 5, and perhaps this will help the team get right. Mario Addison is likely to start in Murphy's place, and Quinton Jefferson likely will rotate in as he typically does.

Bills' Trent Murphy: Likely to be scratched Monday
Murphy is expected to be a healthy scratch for Monday's game versus the Chiefs, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
The Bills are mixing things up this week after a disappointing loss to the Titans, as Harrison Phillips is also expected to be a healthy scratch. Mario Addison could start in Murphy's place, and Quinton Jefferson figures to handle plenty of work as well.

Bills' Trent Murphy: Strong Week 1
Murphy posted two tackles and a sack in Sunday's win over the Jets.
Murphy now has 7.0 sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in his last seven games (six regular-season games and one playoff contest). While he did start Sunday and is a starter on the depth chart, he saw a modest 45 percent of the defensive snaps, though that's more because Buffalo uses a heavy rotational system on the D-line. Murphy may not approach the 9.0 sacks he put up for Washington in 2016, but he's worth keeping an eye on, as he seems past some of the injury issues that have plagued his recent seasons.

Bills' Trent Murphy: Multi-sack finish
Murphy had 2.0 sacks and six total tackles during Sunday's playoff loss to Houston.
The veteran finished the season quite strong following some early season struggles, with two sacks each between Week 17 and the Bills' playoff loss, and at least one full sack in four of the last six games he's played. Murphy has one year left on a hefty three-year, $22.5 million deal he signed in 2018, and while the Bills have tons of cap space for 2020, he's a potential cut candidate simply because his production -- until recently -- hasn't come close to matching his dollar figure. The veteran finished the regular season with 36 tackles, 5.0 sacks, three passes defensed, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries while playing in all 16 games for the first time since 2016.

Bills' Trent Murphy: Making presence again
Murphy had three tackles -- including his third sack of the season -- and a forced fumble during Sunday's win over Pittsburgh.
The veteran defensive end is a long way from his 9.0-sack season with Washington in 2016, but he's seemingly finding his groove again (following some injury-plagued seasons) as the Buffalo defense continues to heat up. Murphy has two sacks over the last three games, while seeing exactly 63 or 64 percent of the defensive snap counts in each of the last four weeks.

Murphy (concussion) was a full practice participant Wednesday.
Murphy sustained a concussion during the Week 5 win over the Titans, but he looks good to go coming off the bye week for Sunday's against the Dolphins. The 29-year-old has four tackles, three passes defensed, an interception and a fumble recovery through five games.

Murphy left Sunday's win over the Titans with a head injury and did not return, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.
Murphy logged just one tackle before departing. The only good news for the veteran is that the Bills are on bye in Week 6, giving him an extra week to heal, which could prove especially important if he ends up being diagnosed with a concussion and has to go through the league's protocol.

Bills' Trent Murphy: Picks up INT in win
Murphy made one tackle and had an interception in Sunday's 28-14 win over the Giants.
It was the third consecutive game Murphy forced a turnover dating back to last season, as he nabbed a tipped pass from Eli Manning at the line of scrimmage for his first career interception. The 28-year-old suited up for 63 percent of the team's defensive snaps, down from his 57-snap game last week. Murphy and the rest of the defense will get a solid matchup against the Bengals for Week 3.

Bills' Trent Murphy: Finally fully healthy
Murphy, who struggled at times in his first season as a Bill while still recovering from ACL surgery, finally feels he's at full health, Jason Wolf of The Buffalo News reports.
Murphy played in 13 games for the Bills last season, but he didn't look nearly as explosive as he did in 2016, when he logged 9.0 sacks for Washington. He posted a career-low 24 tackles in 2018 and logged only 4.0 sacks following a blank 2017 caused by the preseason knee injury. We'd expect much more this season, though with the Bills preferring a rotation system between Murphy, Jerry Hughes and Shaq Lawson -- all of whom are capable of pressuring the passer -- Murphy's snap count gets mollified compared to top defensive ends, even though he's technically a starter. But certainly, a healthy Murphy makes a strong Buffalo defense that much better.

Bills' Trent Murphy: Unlikely to be cut
Now that the fifth day of free agency has passed, Murphy will receive $2.5M of his salary and a roster bonus, which indicates the Bills will hang on to him, Mike Rodak of ESPN.com reports.
It was reported that the Bills showed interest in Trey Flowers and Ziggy Ansah last week, which resulted in speculation regarding Murphy's role with the team going forward. However, it appears the Bills plan on sticking with him as their starting defensive end opposite Jerry Hughes heading into training camp. The 28-year-old compiled four sacks and two forced fumbles in 13 games last season, and will probably be part of a rotation with Shaq Lawson again in 2019.

Bills' Trent Murphy: Injury-marred season
Murphy dealt with injuries for much of his first season with the Bills, Mark Gaughan of The Buffalo News reports. "I needed an extra roll of duct tape this year," said the defensive end.
When they signed Murphy to a major free-agent contract, the Bills knew Murphy would take time to get up to speed coming off major reconstructive surgery on his left knee. Not only did it take him awhile to get his footing back, but he dealt with ankle and groin injuries for parts of the 2018 season, plus an injury to his right knee. All told, Murphy ended up missing three games, more than he missed in his first three seasons combined with Washington (he missed all of 2017 with the knee injury). He also posted his lowest NFL tackle total (24), while his 4.0 sacks were a far cry from the 9.0 he posted in 2016. Expect more from the talented pass rusher if he can get himself healthy entering next season, though if the Bills keep both Jerry Hughes and Shaq Lawson, Murphy will probably be looking at less than a full starter's load.

Murphy was limited during Wednesday's practice due to a chest injury.
Something always seems to be nagging Murphy, which is perhaps a reason Shaq Lawson has caught him on the depth chart and the two are now sharing snaps across from Jerry Hughes. Murphy has performed decently while he's out there, but his 4.0 sacks and 21 tackles are a pretty big disappointment given the $7.2 per annum to which the Bills signed him.
