  • Bryce Petty: Waived from IR

The Dolphins waived Petty (oblique) from injured reserve Tuesday, Dennis Waszak Jr. of the Associated Press reports.

Petty was claimed off waivers by Miami in May, but failed to beat out Brock Osweiler and David Fales and was subsequently put on IR with an oblique issue. Petty is now free to sign elsewhere, though the list of potential suitors may be in short supply. The former fourth-round pick in 2015 has completed just 53.1 percent of his passes and has thrown 10 interceptions in 10 career games.

  • Dolphins' Bryce Petty: Lands on IR

Petty (oblique) has been placed on injured reserve, according to the league's official transaction log.

Petty, who almost exclusively worked with the third-team offense throughout the summer, has been dealing with an unspecified oblique injury for roughly a week. The Dolphins will move forward with a combination of Ryan Tannehill, David Fales and Brock Osweiler at quarterback.

  • Dolphins' Bryce Petty: Sitting out practice Thursday

Petty (oblique) didn't participate in Thursday's practice, Adam H. Beasley of the Miami Herald reports.

Petty is battling David Fales and Brock Osweiler to be Ryan Tannehill's backup, so getting healthy for Saturday's exhibition game against the Ravens is crucial for his chances. The fourth-year pro has completed nine of 13 passes for 111 yards, one touchdown and one interception through two preseason games.

  • Bryce Petty: To be waived by Jets

Petty will be waived by the Jets on Thursday, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports.

Petty was being mentioned in trade talks shortly after the Jets drafted quarterback Sam Darnold with the third overall pick in this past weekend's draft, but with New York seemingly unable to strike a deal, the team will be letting him go. It's not a very surprising move considering the team re-signed Josh McCown and signed Teddy Bridgewater this offseason. Petty will now be on the open market looking for a potential backup quarterback job, but he doesn't have much to hang his hat on, as he threw three touchdowns and seven interceptions in six appearances last season.

  • Dolphins' Bryce Petty: Claimed by Miami

Petty was claimed off waivers by the Dolphins on Friday.

After the quarterback room became far too crowded in New York, Petty was let go Thursday, but the former Baylor standout landed on his feet with the Dolphins one day later. Miami doesn't currently possess much appealing depth at quarterback behind starter Ryan Tannehill (knee), as Brock Osweiller and David Fales were initially expected to fight for the backup job this offseason. Petty will now be thrown into the mix and should be given a legitimate chance to make the team's final roster, perhaps even as a No. 3 option if the Dolphins elect to keep an extra body at the position.

  • Jets' Bryce Petty: Involved in trade talks

Petty is being mentioned in trade talks after the Jets selected quarterback Sam Darnold in the first round of the draft, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports.

The Jets now have five quarterbacks with Darnold on the roster, and teams usually only carry four of them during the offseason. It isn't clear what sort of compensation New York could receive for Petty, but the asking price doesn't figure to be much. In three starts to conclude the 2017 season, Petty completed 51.5 percent of his passes for 530 yards (5.14 YPA), one touchdown and three interceptions.

  • Jets' Bryce Petty: Could be cut in offseason

Petty could be cut this offseason, NorthJersey.com reports.

Petty started the final three games of the regular season in place of the injured Josh McCown (hand), completing 55 of 112 passes for one touchdown and three interceptions for the year. He was used almost exclusively as a backup during his time in New York, and while he always stayed ahead of Christian Hackenberg on the depth chart, there were very few glimpses of legitimate fantasy upside. Despite McCown heading for free agency, it became very clear that Petty was not going to be the quarterback of the future for the Jets, so his potential release would come as no surprise.
