The Cardinals have granted permission to Hopkins' (knee) representatives to discuss trades with other teams, Albert Breer of SI.com reports.
After missing just two games in the first eight years of his career, Hopkins has been absent for 15 games the past two seasons due to a combination of injuries and a suspension. He's still produced when on the field, though, totaling 106 catches (on 160 targets) for 1,289 yards and 11 touchdowns in 19 appearances during that span. Despite Breer's report, new coach Jonathan Gannon told Steve Wyche of NFL Network at the Annual League Meeting on Sunday that he's "operating that he's a Cardinal right now" when asked about Hopkins. Hopkins' situation may continue to linger due to his 2023 base salary of $19.45 million, his age (he turns 31 in June) and his recent inability to be available to Arizona's offense.

The 30-year-old wideout missed the first six games of the season due to a suspension and will wind up sitting out the final two with a knee injury. In between, he averaged 7.1 catches for 79.7 yards on 10.7 targets with three touchdowns in nine games, essentially providing his usual level of fantasy production until things fell apart Week 16, when third-string quarterback Trace McSorley completed only one of his 10 throws to Hopkins in what ended up being the wideout's final appearance of the season. Hopkins is signed through 2024, but he could be the subject of trade rumors this offseason with a non-guaranteed $19.45 million salary looming in 2023. Even if he stays in Arizona, there's plenty of uncertainty for his outlook with head coach Kliff Kingsbury a candidate to be fired and franchise signal-caller Kyler Murray (knee) recovering from a surgery that could put his availability for Week 1 of next season in doubt.

Considering Hopkins left Friday's practice early, it certainly appeared as if the knee injury was relatively serious and Saturday's designation confirms the notion. It's entirely possible Hopkins could be shut down for the rest of the season considering Week 18 means nothing in terms of the Cardinals' playoff hopes, but the team has yet to make anything official in that regard. Marquise Brown and Greg Dortch figure to get more opportunities with Hopkins out, although the prospect of third-stringer David Blough throwing the duo the ball might be an unenviable situation for fantasy managers.

Hopkins' highly alarming stat line was partly the byproduct of his unfamiliarity with spot starter Trace McSorley, who stepped in for Colt McCoy (concussion) on Sunday. The veteran wideout's meager reception and yardage totals both matched career-low figures he'd set way back in Week 4 of his rookie 2016 campaign with the Texans, and he should therefore have nowhere to go but up in a favorable Week 17 road matchup against the Falcons, irrespective of who's under center.
Hopkins recorded seven receptions on 11 targets for 60 yards in Sunday's 24-15 loss to the Broncos.
Hopkins paced Arizona's pass catchers in every statistical category, and he managed a respectable performance despite playing with the team's second- and third-string quarterbacks. Due to the quality of quarterback play, Hopkins was forced to work primarily in the short areas of the field, as his longest catch went for 18 yards and only two of his catches went for double-digit gains. Hopkins' role in the offense is safe moving forward, though he could continue to struggle to put up exceptional numbers due to the state of the Arizona offense -- particularly if Colt McCoy (concussion) remains sidelined for a Week 16 matchup with Tampa Bay.
