Seahawks' Bruce Irvin: Joins active roster for Week 9
Seattle signed Irvin from its practice squad to the 53-man roster Friday ahead of Sunday's game at Arizona, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
After Irvin started and played in 72 percent of Seattle's defensive snaps in Week 8 versus the Giants, the Seahawks decided to promote him from their practice squad to the active roster for good. If 2020 second-rounder Darrell Taylor (groin) is forced to miss Sunday's game, the veteran Irvin would likely be in line for another prominent role at the Cardinals.

Bruce Irvin: Returns to practice squad
Irvin reverted to the Seahawks' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Irvin was elevated to the active roster for a second straight game but saw an increased role during Week 8 after Darrell Taylor (hip) left the game early. The veteran linebacker ended up playing 47 of the team's 65 defensive snaps and recorded two tackles, including one for loss. Regardless the severity of Taylor's injury, it appears Irvin will be a likely candidate for a third straight elevation in Week 9.

Seahawks' Bruce Irvin: Elevated to active roster
Seattle elevated Irvin from its practice squad to the active roster Saturday for Sunday's matchup against the Giants, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
Irvin will be active for a second straight game after recording two tackles across 24 defensive snaps during his season debut against the Chargers in Week 7. The veteran linebacker will be eligible for only one more elevation following Sunday's game, so it's possible Seattle inks him to the 53-man roster before too long, especially if he plays well again.

The veteran played on 24 defensive snaps and recorded two tackles against the Chargers on Sunday. He had just signed with team Oct. 11 and could earn a more regular role moving forward if the team continues to deal with injuries at linebacker.

Irvin is slated to join Seattle's practice squad following a seven-tackle campaign in 2021 with Chicago. The veteran linebacker was drafted by the Seahawks in the first round in 2012, and he's since played for the Raiders, Falcons, Panthers, Seahawks (2020) and Bears. With fellow linebackers Alton Robinson (knee), Darryl Johnson (ankle), Jon Rhattigan (knee), Ben Burr-Kirven (knee) and Tyreke Smith (hip) all nursing injuries, Irvin could find himself suiting up for his former team sooner rather than later.

Bears' Bruce Irvin: One stop in finale
Irvin notched one tackle in the Bears' 31-17 Week 18 loss to the Vikings, and he ended the season with seven tackles.
Irvin played in six games down the stretch for the Bears in a rotational role, and he averaged one tackle per game while not recording a sack. He'll be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, as he goes into his age-34 season, though he hasn't been a productive IDP since 2019.
