McLeod has agreed to terms with the Browns, Jake Trotter of ESPN reports. McLeod spent the 2022 season with the Colts, where he posted career highs with 96 tackles and eight passes defended. Per Trotter, the 32-year-old projects to fill a key backup role in the Browns secondary behind expected starting safeties Grant Delpit and Juan Thornhill. McLeod, who has the versatility to play either strong or free safety, previously played under new Browns defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz while the two were in Philadelphia.... See More ... Colts' Rodney McLeod: Posts career highs in 2022
Over 17 appearances, McLeod logged 96 tackles (59 solo) and eight passes defended, including two interceptions, as well as a fumble recovery during the 2022 campaign. McLeod emerged into a starting role three games into his first year with the Colts. The 32-year-old safety, who spent the previous six seasons with Philadelphia, also appeared in every regular-season contest for the first time since the 2019 campaign. As a result, he posted career highs in tackles and passes defended to go along with the third pick-six of his career. McLeod played on a one-year, $1.77 million contract with Indianapolis this season, so he's now set to become an unrestricted free agent again this offseason.... See More ... See Less -
Colts' Rodney McLeod: Moves into starting role
McLeod started at strong safety and had five total tackles, two passes defensed and an interception in Sunday's win over Kansas City. McLeod played on all 59 of the defense's snaps as he got increased playing time with rookie Nick Cross moving back to the bench (just one snap on defense). It looks like McLeod has a starting role and should continue to get plenty of snaps with Julian Blackmon possibly missing time with a sprained ankle.... See More ... See Less -
Colts' Rodney McLeod: Mostly limited to special teams
McLeod did not record a tackle and played just two snaps on defense in Sunday's tie at Houston. McLeod also logged 18 snaps on special teams. It was somewhat surprising that McLeod was mostly limited to special teams, as it was thought he'd initially get some time in place of rookie Nick Cross at strong safety. It looks like the Colts are confident in Cross or don't plan to utilize many three-safety sets.... See More ... See Less -
Colts' Rodney McLeod: All set for training camp
McLeod (undisclosed) was removed from the active/PUP list and returned to the active roster Wednesday. McLeod was put on the PUP list Sunday with an undisclosed injury, but he will now be active for the beginning of training camp Wednesday, suggesting that whatever was ailing him was minor. The 32-year-old is set to be the Colts' starting free safety this season after signing with the organization in April. McLeod compiled 58 tackles, four pass deflections and two interceptions over 13 games with the Eagles last season and he figures to be a leader in the secondary for Indianapolis this year.... Colts' Rodney McLeod: Dealing with undisclosed injury
The Colts placed McLeod (undisclosed) on the active/PUP list Sunday, Chris Widlic of CBS4Indy reports. McLeod signed a contract with the Colts at the beginning of April following three seasons with the Eagles. The extent of his injury remains unknown, but he's eligible to return at any point before the initial 53-man roster deadline. When available, he figures to play a key role in Indianapolis' secondary.... See More ... See Less -
Eagles' Rodney McLeod: Clears COVID protocols
McLeod was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday. McLeod spent a week in COVID protocols and was forced to miss the Eagles' Week 18 game with the Cowboys. Now healthy, McLeod should get the start at strong safety against the Buccaneers.... See More ... See Less -
Eagles' Rodney McLeod: Full practice Thursday
McLeod was a full-go at Thursday's practice. The 31-year-old suffered a neck injury in Week 9 against the Chargers but it appears to have been a minor issue. Since returning from a knee injury Oct. 1, McLeod has racked up 32 tackles and a pass deflection in six games.... See More ... See Less -
Eagles' Rodney McLeod: Won't play Week 1
McLeod (knee) is officially listed as out for Sunday's contest against the Falcons, Zach Berman of The Athletic reports. McLeod was activated off of the PUP list before the 53-man roster deadline, which gave Philly optimism that he would be available for Week 1. However, the Eagles will elect to be cautious and won't rush their starting safety back from his torn ACL. K'Von Wallace and Marcus Epps are the most likely candidates to fill in for McLeod.... Eagles' Rodney McLeod: Placed on PUP list
The Eagles placed McLeod (knee) on the PUP list Wednesday. McLeod will sit out the start of training camp as he continues to work his way back from an ACL tear suffered last December. The starting safety has said that his goal is to return in time for Week 1 of the 2021 season.... See More ... See Less -
Eagles' Rodney McLeod: Leaves game with injury
McLeod (knee) will not return to Sunday's game against the Saints, Amie Just of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. McLeod is one of three members of Philadelphia's secondary to be forced out of Sunday's game, alongside Darius Slay (concussion) and Avonte Maddox (knee). The Eagles already have Cre'von LeBlanc (ankle) and Craig James (shoulder) on IR.... See More ... See Less -
Eagles' Rodney McLeod: Upgrades to limited practice
McLeod (hamstring) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice. McLeod wasn't able to log any practice reps Wednesday, so it's encouraging to now see him working on at least a restricted basis. It looks as though McLeod, who hasn't yet missed a defensive snap this season, has at least a shot to suit up in Pittsburgh on Sunday.... See More ... See Less -
Eagles' Rodney McLeod: Plays 17 games in 2019
McLeod played all 16 regular-season games, registering 76 tackles (46 solo), a sack, two interceptions and six pass breakups in 2019. He also logged two tackles (one solo) in the Eagles' wild card loss to Seattle. McLeod bounced back to his former self after missing most of 2018 with a torn ACL and MCL. He came just seven tackles shy of his career high and recorded just his second career sack. The 29-year-old heads into the offseason scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent, so he could very well be with another team in 2020.... See More ... See Less -
Eagles' Rodney McLeod: Expects full participation in training camp
McLeod (knee) expects to be full-go for the start of training camp next month, Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports. McLeod participated in individual drills during this week's minicamp and appears very close to reaching a full recovery from last September's severe knee injury. When healthy, the soon-to-be 29-year-old is slated to serve as a key member of the Eagles secondary.... See More ... See Less -
Eagles' Rodney McLeod: Re-works contract for 2019
McLeod (knee) signed a re-worked contract with Philadelphia for the 2019 season, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. McLeod tore his ACL and MCL this past season and was likely to be cut if he didn't agree to a re-worked contract. The specifics of his deal are unclear, but he'll plan on playing for the Eagles for at least another year.... See More ... See Less -
Eagles' Rodney McLeod: Also has torn ACL
McLeod revealed he had surgery to repair a torn ACL along with a torn MCL in September, Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News reports. It was previously thought that McLeod only tore his MCL, and the addition of the ACL may extend the recovery time even further. McLeod wasn't going to return in 2018 anyway, and eyes were on next year for the Eagles' starting strong safety, who had 10 tackles and four pass breakups in the first four games. With Corey Graham nursing a hamstring injury, Malcolm Jenkins will start at strong safety for the time being.... See More ... See Less -
Eagles' Rodney McLeod: Will require season-ending surgery
McLeod was diagnosed Monday with a torn MCL in his knee and will require season-ending surgery, a league source told Derrick Gunn of NBC Sports Philadelphia. McLeod has served as the Eagles' starting free safety for the last two seasons and change, accruing 148 tackles and six interceptions across 33 regular-season contests. The Eagles were hopeful that McLeod avoided a significant setback after being forced out of the Week 3 win over the Colts, but follow-up tests confirmed that the 28-year-old needed surgery. Expect Philadelphia to place McLeod on injured reserve in the near future, with the team perhaps using the open roster spot to upgrade its depth in the secondary. McLeod's injury will likely press Corey Graham into a starting role at safety alongside Malcolm Jenkins.... See More ... See Less -
Eagles' Rodney McLeod: Records interception in second straight game
McLeod recorded two tackles (one solo), an interception and a pass defensed in Sunday's 51-23 win over the Broncos. The performance marks McLeod's fifth straight contest with a pass defensed and second in a row with an interception. The Virginia product played all but one defensive snap in this game and seems to be fully recovered from the hamstring injury that hampered him earlier in the season.... See More ... See Less -
Eagles' Rodney McLeod: Practices at full speed all week
McLeod (hamstring) was a full participant all week and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Chargers, Dave Zangaro of CSN Philadelphia reports. It's odd that the Eagles haven't removed the injury tag after McLeod practiced all week, but it's likely precautionary in case of setbacks. The Chargers offense has been stagnant and turnover-prone, so expect McLeod to have a solid game with a chance to make some plays in coverage.... See More ... See Less -
Eagles' Rodney McLeod: Won't return Sunday
McLeod (hamstring) is out for the remainder of Sunday's game against the Chiefs, Zach Berman of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Fellow safety Jaylen Watkins (hamstring) also is out for the remainder of the game, leaving the Eagles secondary thin. Corey Graham and Chris Maragos will continue to fill in for the time being, but it'd be a good idea to monitor McLeod's recovery ahead of Week 3's matchup with the Giants.... See More ... See Less
