49ers' Tashaun Gipson: Re-signing with San Francisco
Gipson agreed to a one-year, $2.9 million contract with the 49ers on Sunday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Gipson joined the 49ers ahead of the 2022 campaign and carved out a starting role late in the year. He tallied 61 tackles (43 solo), including 0.5 sacks, five interceptions and eight pass defenses while appearing in all 17 games. Gipson should have a chance to maintain a prominent role in San Francisco's secondary in 2023.

Gipson finished with 61 combined tackles (43 solo) and five interceptions across 17 regular-season games with the 49ers in 2022.
Gipson signed with San Francisco to serve as safety depth, but his strong play vaulted him into a starting role by midseason. The veteran safety proved to be an effective starting option at free safety, so there is a good chance the 49ers will be bidding on his services during the free agent period this offseason.

Gipson finished one tackle shy of Fred Warner's team-leading total in the Week 6 loss. This was a new season high in tackles for Gipson, who has played at least 98 percent of San Francisco's defensive snaps in every game.

49ers' Tashaun Gipson: Joins 53-man roster
Gipson was signed to the 49ers' active roster Tuesday.
Gipson was originally released by San Francisco as part of their final roster cuts, then re-signed to their practice squad. However, the former Bear was elevated to the main roster and drew the start at free safety in Week 1. Now officially signed to the active roster, Gipson will take the field with the team again in Week 2 against the Seahawks.

Gipson drew the start at free safety in San Francisco's season opener after being elevated from the team's practice squad Saturday. The veteran recorded three tackles while playing all but one of the 49ers' defensive snaps against the Bears. The 10-year pro joined the 49ers on Aug. 22, and while he didn't survive roster cuts Aug. 30, he landed on the team's practice squad two days later. Gipson initially signed with San Francisco on Aug. 22 after playing in a starting safety role with the Bears over the past two seasons, but he was let go amidst the team's final round of roster cuts Tuesday.
