Joseph (ankle) has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2022 season, Dale Lolley of DKPittsburghSports.com reports. • Karl Joseph: Let go by Raiders

Joseph was released by the Raiders on Tuesday, Vic Tafur of The Athletic reports. It appears rookie second-round pick Trevon Moehrig won the starting free safety role, meaning Joseph will get an opportunity to sign elsewhere as a free agent. The 2016 first-round pick played 14 games for the Browns last year and recorded 67 tackles (46 solo), four pass breakups and an interception. He'll add dependable secondary depth with another team.

Joseph signed a contract with the Raiders on Friday. Joseph spent his 2020 campaign with Cleveland, where he recorded 67 tackles (46 solo), one interception and four pass breakups through 14 games. • Browns' Karl Joseph: Activated off COVID list

Joseph was activated off the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday. Joseph never actually tested positive for coronavirus, but he was considered a high-risk close contact. Barring any setbacks, he figures to take on his usual role as the team's starting strong safety.

  • Browns' Karl Joseph: Won't play Week 5

  • Browns' Karl Joseph: Questionable Week 4

Joseph is questionable for Sunday's game versus Indianapolis with a hamstring injury, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports. The 27-year-old has 23 total tackles and one interception through four games, but his status for Week 4 is up in the air. Coach Kevin Stefanski said the team will use the next 50 hours to see how Joseph responds after suffering the injury Thursday, so he may end up being a game-time decision.

  • Browns' Karl Joseph: Back on practice field

Joseph (foot) returned to practice Tuesday, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports. A foot injury, which required surgery, ended Joseph's 2019 season after nine games, and he started training camp as a limited participant. The 26-year-old safety participated in 11-on-11 drills during Tuesday's session though, signaling that he's essentially at full health. Joseph is expected to start at strong safety for the Browns this year.

  • Browns' Karl Joseph: Comes off PUP list

The Browns activated Joseph (foot) from the active/PUP list Saturday, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports. Joseph missed the final seven games of last season due to a significant foot injury that required surgery. Even though he kicked off camp on the PUP list, he was believed to be on course for Week 1, which more or less was confirmed with Saturday's move. In four campaigns with the Raiders, Joseph averaged 77.1 tackles and 1.3 interceptions per 16 games played. He'll look to fill a similar void as the Browns' starting strong safety in 2020.

Joseph underwent surgery to address his foot injury Wednesday, per his official Instagram account. Joseph sustained a season-ending foot injury during Week 10's win over the Chargers. The 26-year-old notched 49 tackles (38 solo), three defended passes, one interception and one fumble recovery across nine contests in 2019. He'll now focus on making a full recovery for the 2020 season.

  • Raiders' Karl Joseph: Dealing with knee injury

Joseph (knee) was spotted on crutches following Thursday's 26-24 win over the Chargers. Joseph was responsible for Philip Rivers' third interception of the game, sealing the Raiders' fifth win of the season. Unfortunately, Joseph said he felt his right knee buckle on the play and the use of crutches is cause for concern. The fourth-year pro will be evaluated Friday and will aim to get healthy for Week 11's matchup against the Bengals.

  • Raiders' Karl Joseph: Leads Oakland in tackles

Joseph totaled eight tackles (seven solo) in Sunday's 34-14 loss to the Vikings. Joseph is now averaging six tackles per game through the first three weeks of the regular season, benefiting from a hefty snap share with first-round pick Johnathan Abram (shoulder) on injured reserve. Joseph still hasn't provided much IDP value in coverage, however, seeking his first pass defensed of the 2019 campaign as the Raiders now head to Indianapolis.

  • Raiders' Karl Joseph: Set for free agency in 2020

The Raiders confirmed they won't be picking up Joseph's fifth-year option, Scott Bair of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. The choice to leave the option untouched means that Joseph will be playing in a contract year in 2019, with free agency awaiting him when the 2020 league year begins next March. The West Virginia product set new career lows with 34 solo tackles, 14 assisted stops and 474 snaps across 14 games last season.

  • Raiders' Karl Joseph: Stuck in deep safety group

Joseph is part of a safety group that now includes No. 27 overall draft pick Johnathan Abram, holdover Erik Harris and offseason signings Lamarcus Joyner and Curtis Riley, Matt Kawahara of The San Francisco Chronicle reports. Joyner is the only one locked in for an every-down role, but the Raiders have hinted at using him as a slot cornerback rather than a safety in nickel packages. That plan might open things up a bit for Joseph, a disappointing 2016 first-round pick who finally appeared to make progress during the second half of 2018. The Raiders may have a trade in mind, but it's also possible they're just trying to stockpile depth on the back end. Joseph still has some upside for IDP purposes if he can lock down the starting job at strong safety.

  • Raiders' Karl Joseph: Rebounds from early season issues

Joseph accrued four tackles (three solo) during Sunday's 35-3 loss to the Chiefs. Joseph began his 2018 campaign in the doghouse with just 11 defensive snaps heading into the Raiders' bye in Week 7, but he would eventually solidify himself as the team's starting strong safety upon a return to full health from a hamstring injury. The 2016 first-rounder had even landed on the trade block at one point, but he finished the season with 48 tackles (34 solo), two sacks, two passes defensed and an interception in 13 games. He'll likely remain with the team in 2019 with one year left on his rookie contract, though a fifth-year option would become available the following season.

  • Raiders' Karl Joseph: Sacks in back-to-back games

Joseph recorded seven stops and a sack Monday in the Raiders' 27-14 win over the Broncos. The third-year safety is closing out the season on a strong note, as he posted the same statistics in the Week 15 loss to the Bengals. His 44 tackles for the campaign are still well off the pace from his totals in 2017 (79) and 2016 (60), however.

  • Raiders' Karl Joseph: Notches interception Sunday

Joseph recorded five tackles (three solo) and an interception in Sunday's win over the Cardinals. Joseph has had a lackluster year thus far, but his performance Sunday was his best of the season. His interception was his first pass defensed through seven games and his five tackles tied a season high. Joseph will aim to continue the solid play into Week 12 when the Raiders face off against Baltimore.

  • Raiders' Karl Joseph: Expected to miss time

Joseph (hamstring) is expected to miss at least one game, Scott Bair of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Joseph left Sunday's game at Miami in the first half and didn't return, and now it seems he'll be out one week at the minimum. Though he hasn't filled up the stat sheet thus far in 2018, the 25-year-old safety is an integral part of Oakland's defense, and his absence is a blow to the 0-3 team. Erik Harris is expected to fill in for Joseph for at least the immediate future.

  • Raiders' Karl Joseph: Hauls in first INT of season

Joseph had three solo tackles, one pass breakup and one interception in Sunday's loss to the Chiefs. Joseph's production has dropped off in the last five games, as he's averaged just 4.5 stops per contest during that span as compared to 6.6 tackles over his first seven contests. He'll likely have to rely on tackles for fantasy value in Week 15 against the Cowboys, since QB Dak Prescott has protected the ball well this campaign.

  • Raiders' Karl Joseph: Inactive, as expected

Joseph (groin) is listed as inactive for the Week 8 matchup against the Bills. Joseph didn't have much of a shot to play after missing back-to-back practices and entering the week with a "doubtful" designation. His absence should open up snaps in the secondary for fellow safeties Keith McGill and Shalom Luani.

  • Raiders' Karl Joseph: Fills up stat sheet in victory over Jets

Joseph tallied five tackles (three solo) to go along with one sack, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in Sunday's victory over the Jets. Joseph's sack, forced fumble and fumble recovery came on the same play when he rocked opposing quarterback Josh McCown on a first-and-10 early in the fourth quarter. He only saw 56 snaps, because the Raiders controlled the time of possession in the game. The 24-year-old picked up where he left off after leading the team in tackles in Week 1 and will look to stay hot Sunday against the Redskins.
