Day (back) was released by the Browns back in August with a non-football injury designation, but his workout in Minnesota on Tuesday suggests he's moved past his previous injury.

Sheldon Day: Released from NFI
The Browns released Day (back) with a non-football injury designation Tuesday.
Day landed on Cleveland's NFI list with a back injury at the outset of training camp in late July. The sixth-year defensive lineman recorded 21 tackles and one sack over seven games with the Browns last year. Day likely will work to get healthy this offseason in the hopes of playing elsewhere in 2022.

Day signed with the active roster from the Browns' practice squad Tuesday.
Day was a fourth-round selection by the Jaguars in 2016 and has since spent time with San Francisco, Indianapolis and now Cleveland, since leaving Jacksonville, Day has made two previous appearances on the active roster in 2021, totaling 55 defensive snaps and seven tackles (two solo).

Day ended the 2020 campaign on Cleveland's practice squad after having earlier appeared in four games for Indianapolis. He'll spend the offseason competing for a depth role along the interior defensive line.

The 26-year-old underwent a minor knee procedure in late August and was placed on injured reserve before Week 1, but he'll retake the practice field this week. Day is eligible to be activated after spending the three-week minimum on injured reserve, but he may not be ready to return Week 4.

49ers' Sheldon Day: Finishes year as starter
Day had 15 tackles (10 solo) and a sack in 16 games this season.
Day began the year as a backup, but he took over as a starting defensive tackle next to DeForest Buckner after D.J. Jones (ankle) was shut down following Week 11. The near-300 pound tackle shined against the run, but he was also able to generate some pass-rush pressure despite his larger size. Day will be an unrestricted free agent this upcoming offseason, but he should land somewhere (if San Francisco doesn't re-sign him) following a solid showing in 2019.

49ers' Sheldon Day: Strong showing Friday
Day was disruptive in Friday's practice, consistently beating his offensive line assignments and recording a tackle for a loss and a sack, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Day was claimed by the 49ers from the Jaguars at the tail end of the 2017 season. The 22-year-old recorded 18 tackles and a pair of sacks in a limited role. Day is currently one of the frontrunners to win a backup defensive tackle role in 2018.
