  • Browns' Stephen Weatherly: Placed on injured reserve

Weatherly (knee) was placed on injured reserve by the Browns on Saturday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. The veteran defensive end signed a one-year deal with the Browns in April, but he now will spend the year on IR, barring the team cutting him with an injury settlement. Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram noted that Weatherly will be undergoing surgery on his knee, with no timetable for his recovery mentioned by coach Kevin Stefanski.

  • Browns' Stephen Weatherly: Joining Cleveland

Weatherly signed a one-year contract with the Browns on Monday, Anthony Poisal of the team's official website reports. Weatherly was traded by the Vikings to the Broncos last season and registered 22 tackles and 2.5 sacks across 15 total appearances. The 2016 seventh-round pick figures to garner a similar role during the 2022 campaign.

The Broncos activated Weatherly (undisclosed) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports. • Panthers' Stephen Weatherly: Out Week 10, possibly longer

Weatherly (finger) won't play Sunday against the Buccaneers, Joe Person of The Athletic reports. Person adds that coach Matt Rhule expects Weatherly to be "out for a while," suggesting that the defensive end may also end up sitting out in Week 11 against the Lions and beyond. As long as Weatherly is out, Yetur Gross-Matos will likely fill his spot at defensive end, assuming the oft-injured rookie is able to stay on the field himself.

  • Vikings' Stephen Weatherly: Three sacks in 2019

Weatherly recorded 24 tackles and three sacks over 16 regular-season games. He added four tackles and another sack in the Vikings' two playoff games. Weatherly has now notched three sacks in both of the last two seasons. The 25-year-old could battle for an increased role along the defensive line if he re-signs with the Vikings and they move on from Everson Griffen, who will be an unrestricted free agent in March.

  • Vikings' Stephen Weatherly: Battling groin injury

Weatherly is questionable for Sunday's game against the Cowboys due to a groin injury. The 25-year-old had his first sack of the season on 18 defensive snaps last week against the Chiefs, but he apparently picked up the groin injury and was limited at practice this week. Everson Griffen, Danielle Hunter and Ifeadi Odenigbo would be the Vikings' three healthy defensive ends should Weatherly be unable to suit up Sunday.

  • Vikings' Stephen Weatherly: Modest first game

Weatherly had two total tackles in Sunday's win over Atlanta. He played on 32 of the defense's 74 snaps and had two QB hurries, according to Pro Football Focus. He'll be a main backup on the defensive line and part of the rotation, but won't get as much playing time as he did in parts of last season as long as Everson Griffen is healthy. Still, head coach Mike Zimmer talked about a larger role for Weatherly in the preseason, and his role could grow if Griffen's playing time, at age 31, is reduced to keep him fresh.

  • Vikings' Stephen Weatherly: Set for larger role

Weatherly played defensive end and stand-up interior pass rusher in varying formations during this week's OTAs, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. "He made a lot of plays," head coach Mike Zimmer said. "I anticipate that he'll have a much larger role for us this year as we continue to go forward." Weatherly had three sacks last season and 14 quarterback pressures, according to Pro Football Focus. He got more playing time last season when Everson Griffen was away from the team. This season Weatherly could be a bigger part of the rotation on the defensive line, especially if Griffen's playing time, at age 31, is reduced to keep him fresh.

  • Vikings' Stephen Weatherly: Starts again at defensive end

Weatherly started at defensive end with Everson Griffen (personal) sidelined and had five QB hurries, according to Pro Football Focus, but no tackles. Weatherly played 46 of the defense's 56 snaps as it looks like he'll get the bulk of playing time while Griffen is out. Griffen has already been ruled out for next week's game against the Eagles as he's taking some time away from the team to deal with unspecified mental health issues.

  • Vikings' Stephen Weatherly: Productive in first start of season

Weatherly started at defensive end in place of Everson Griffen (personal) and had a sack, a tackle for a loss, two QB hits and seven total tackles in Sunday's loss to Buffalo. Weatherly played 51 snaps on defense after logging just 14 and 18 each of the first two games. While Weatherly will likely headed back to a reduced role when Griffen returns, he could see an increase in playing time and should be monitored after his breakout game.
