Grugier-Hill replaced Thompson during Monday night's 20-17 loss to the Saints, handling 58 defensive snaps while racking up six tackles (five solo) and one sack. Grugier-Hill will now join Zaven Collins and Isaiah Simmons in Arizona's linebacker corps following Tuesday's transaction. The 28-year-old requested a release from the Texans in late October, after he played just 18 defensive snaps during the Week 7 loss to the Raiders due to the team's recent activation of rookie third-round pick Christian Harris. Grugier-Hill paced Houston in tackles in 2021, and he's thus far racked up 40 tackles and six starts this season.

Kamu Grugier-Hill: Cut by Houston
The Texans granted Grugier-Hill his release Wednesday, Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle reports.
After the Texans activated rookie third-round draft pick Christian Harris for Week 7, he and Grugier-Hill platooned at weakside linebacker during a loss to the Raiders. Harris (38 snaps, 68 percent) had the greater share of snaps, and Grugier-Hill (18, 32 percent) may have seen the writing on the wall for his role being reduced over the second half of the season. The seven-year veteran requested his release, and the team quickly granted it. He was Houston's leading tackler in 2021 and started all six of the team's games this season while piling up 40 stops and one pass breakup. The 28-year-old's high-volume tackling gave him some utility in IDP leagues, and while he shouldn't struggle to find a home elsewhere, he may struggle to find the sort of playing time he enjoyed in Houston prior to Week 7.

Grugier-Hill played 98 percent of the Texans' defensive snaps during Sunday's loss to Denver, but he presumably picked up a neck injury as well. If he isn't upgraded to a full participant Thursday or Friday, he may be in danger of missing his first game of the season. He was the team's leading tackler last year and has 23 stops through two games this year, so his potential absence would be a huge blow to Houston's defense.
