Harris (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's matchup against the Ravens. Harris' playing time has dropped in back-to-back weeks after he played at least 60 percent of the Lions' defensive snaps in each of the first four games of 2023. John Cominsky appears to have supplanted Harris as a starting defensive end, while Romeo Okwara and Julian Okwara will maintain rotational roles.... See More ... See Less

Lions' Charles Harris: Back in action
Harris (groin) has been participation in the Lions' OTAs, Colton Pouncy of The Athletic reports. Harris made his return to the field after having dealt with a groin injury since October. The 2017 first-round pick logged 14 tackles (10 solo) and a sack in six games during the 2022 campaign and should have an ample opportunity to compete for playing time heading into the coming season.... Lions' Charles Harris: Out Thursday
Harris (groin) will not play in Thursday's matchup with the Bills. No surprise here, as Harris was unable to participate in practice all week. The absence will mark his fifth straight game missed because of a groin injury. His next opportunity to suit up will come in Week 13 versus the Jaguars.... See More ... See Less -
Lions' Charles Harris: Playing Sunday
Harris (groin) is active Sunday against the Packers. Harris hasn't suited up since Week 4 against the Seahawks. His return should be a boost to the Lions' pass rush against Green Bay.... See More ... See Less -
Lions' Charles Harris: Won't play Sunday
Harris (groin) has been ruled out for Sunday's matchup against the Dolphins, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports. Harris will miss a third straight contest due to a groin injury he presumably picked up during Week 4. In his absence, Josh Paschal, Austin Bryant, Julian Okwara and John Cominsky all figure to see modest roles along Detroit's defensive line.... See More ... See Less -
Lions' Charles Harris: Out again Sunday
Harris (groin) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Cowboys. Harris missed Week 5 against the Jets due to the groin injury and remains sidelined coming off the Lions' bye. Austin Bryant should continue to handle an increased workload for Detroit this weekend.... See More ... See Less -
Lions' Charles Harris: Resurgent 2021 season with Detroit
Harris recorded 65 tackles, 7.5 sacks and two forced fumbles over 17 games in 2021. After flaming out as a first-round pick in Miami and then finding modest success as a reserve in Atlanta, Harris thrived in Detroit while nearly doubling the number of tackles and sacks he accrued in his previous four seasons combined. The Missouri product consequently seems like an obvious candidate for Detroit to retain in the offseason, though it seems possible that the 26-year-old could have a strong market for his services when Harris hits unrestricted free agency in March.... Lions' Charles Harris: Inks deal with Lions
Harris agreed to a contract with the Lions on Thursday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports. For a Falcons defense that struggled to generate pressure on opposing quarterbacks in 2020, Harris tied for third on the team with a career-high three sacks. It's apparent enough the former Missouri standout hasn't thus far lived up to his being selected No. 22 overall in the 2017 draft, but the 26-year-old's stock is trending up as he takes his career to Detroit. Harris had just 1.5 sacks over 25 games in 2018 and 2019 combined.... See More ... See Less -
Falcons' Charles Harris: Logs sack for second straight game
Harris collected two tackles, including a sack of Aaron Rodgers during Monday's 30-16 loss to the Packers. The 25-year-old defensive end corralled Rodgers to the ground at the 7:24 mark of the fourth quarter, surprising the eight-time Pro Bowl quarterback from the blind side and collecting his second sack in as many games. Harris is adding much-needed life to a Falcons pass rush that so far is tied for 23rd in the league with 1.8 sacks per game.... See More ... See Less -
Dolphins' Charles Harris: Active in Week 3
Harris (wrist) is active for Sunday's Week 3 battle against the Cowboys. Harris put in three full practices this past week, so he seemed like a fairly certain proposition to suit up. The 2017 first-round pick will look to help contain the likes of Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott in a game in which the Dolphins once again face long odds to remain competitive.... See More ... Dolphins' Charles Harris: Good to go
Harris (wrist) will be active for Sunday's matchup against the Ravens. Even though Harris logged full practice sessions each day the past week, he still came into the game considered questionable while dealing with a wrist injury. Now that he's ready to roll, expect Harris to settle into a starting role at strongside linebacker for Sunday's game.... See More ... See Less -
Dolphins' Charles Harris: Sees preseason action
Harris notched four tackles (three solo) and 1.5 sacks in Friday's preseason game against the Buccaneers. Harris got the start at defensive end and played a total of 30 snaps. He looks to be over the wrist injury that plagued him last month.... See More ... See Less -
Dolphins' Charles Harris: Limited with wrist injury
Harris has been limited during offseson training activities due to a wrist injury, Cameron Wolfe of ESPN reports. Harris has yet to fully participate in a practice this offseason. The 2017 first-round pick was drafted largely due to his pass-rushing skills, but has just three sacks during his two-year career. Still, new head coach Brian Flores has expressed optimism regarding his status heading into 2019. His wrist injury is not considered serious at this time.... See More ... See Less -
Dolphins' Charles Harris: One sack in second season
Harris generated 19 tackles and one sack over 11 games in 2018. Harris missed five games in the middle of the season due to a calf injury, but even when healthy, the 2017 first-round pick continued to fall short of expectations. However, there's a new sense of optimism in Harris' long-term outlook now that ex-Patriots defensive playcaller Brian Flores is the Dolphins' new head coach. At his introductory press conference, Flores said he intends to use multiple defensive fronts, which, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, means Harris could be given chances to line up at outside linebacker. It's possible that lining up outside the tackles could give Harris extra space to deploy the pass-rushing moves he showcased at Missouri in 2016, when he racked up nine sacks in 12 games.... Dolphins' Charles Harris: Won't play Sunday
Harris (calf) was ruled out for Sunday's game against the Jets, Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post reports. Harris will miss his fourth straight game as he was unable to participate at practice this week. Cameron Malveaux should continue to see increased snaps as a rotational defensive end in his absence.... See More ... See Less -
Dolphins' Charles Harris: Not practicing Wednesday
Harris (calf) was a non-participant in Wednesday's practice, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports. Harris has missed three consecutive games due to a lingering calf injury and continues to work through his recovery. The 2017 first-round pick should be considered questionable for Sunday's game against the Jets, and Cameron Malveaux could see an uptick in defensive snaps if Harris were to remain sidelined for any amount of time.... See More ... See Less -
Dolphins' Charles Harris: Week-to-week with calf injury
Harris injured his calf in practice Friday and is considered week-to-week, Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com reports. Harris' injury happened on the last play of Friday's practice session, which led to his inactive status Sunday against Chicago. The specifics of the injury are unclear, but he appears doubtful for Sunday's game against the Lions at the very least. Look for Andre Branch to see an increase in snaps as long as Harris is sidelined.... See More ... See Less -
Dolphins' Charles Harris: Picked 22nd overall by Dolphins
The Dolphins selected Harris in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft, 22nd overall. Harris (6-foot-3, 253 pounds) isn't unlike fellow 2017 first-round pick Derek Barnett in that he's a small SEC defensive end who was highly productive in college despite concerning workout metrics. A 4.82-second 40, 109-inch broad jump and 32-inch vertical put a red flag into Harris' prospect profile, but at the Missouri pro day he improved his broad jump to 118 inches, and his vertical to 37.5. Those improvements were quite reassuring, and his 30.5 tackles for loss over the last two years give reason to believe in his skill set.... See More ... See Less
