Buccaneers' Chase Edmonds: Re-ups with Buccaneers
Tampa Bay re-signed Edmonds on Wednesday.
Edmonds returns to a Buccaneers team that trusted him with the No. 2 role behind lead back Rachaad White last season. Across 13 regular-season appearances in 2023, Edmonds rushed 49 times for 176 yards and secured 14 of 17 catches for 81 yards, all without a single touchdown. He could be primed for a similar role in 2024, though Sean Tucker will be a candidate to carve out a larger workload Year 2, and Tampa Bay could still add to the backfield in free agency or April's draft.

Buccaneers' Chase Edmonds: Efficient showing to close out '24
Edmonds rushed four times for 19 yards and brought in both targets for 18 yards in the Buccaneers' 31-23 divisional-round loss to the Lions on Sunday.
Edmonds overcame a questionable tag due to a toe injury to suit up for the postseason contest, and he filled his typically modest No. 2 role behind lead back Rachaad White. The veteran was reasonably effective with his opportunities during a 13-game regular season, recording 176 yards at 3.6 yards per carry and adding a 14-81-0 receiving line. Edmonds then had 11 carries for 31 yards and three receptions for another 26 yards during Tampa Bay's two postseason games. He's slated for unrestricted free agency this offseason after playing 2023 on a one-year deal.

Edmonds (toe) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Lions.
After being deemed a non-participant in Wednesday's and Thursday's walk-throughs, Edmonds logged a limited session Friday and approached the contest listed as questionable. With his active status versus Detroit confirmed, the running back is available to maintain his complementary role behind starter Rachaad White. As long as White remains healthy, however, Edmonds -- who logged seven carries for 12 yards and one catch for eight yards in the Buccaneers' wild-card win over the Eagles this past Monday -- will profile as a speculative lineup option.

Buccaneers' Chase Edmonds: Could play Sunday
Edmonds (toe) returned to practice Friday and will be listed as questionable for Sunday's game in Detroit, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports.
Edmonds didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday despite handling his normal role in Monday's 32-9 win over the Eagles. He typically plays about one-fourth of Tampa Bay's snaps on offense, and he got 5-to-10 touches in each of the past four games (including eight for 20 yards from scrimmage in the wild-card win over Philadelphia). The Bucs' other backfield options behind starter Rachaad White are rookie Sean Tucker and practice-squad member Patrick Laird.

Edmonds had no fewer than five touches and no more than 10 in each of Tampa Bay's last four games, including a 32-9 win over Philadelphia in the wild-card round. If Edmonds were to miss Sunday's divisional-round game against Detroit, it might mean more playing time for starter Rachaad White and likely would leave Sean Tucker as the backup running back.

Edmonds rushed seven times for 12 yards and brought in one of two targets for eight yards in the Buccaneers' 32-9 wild-card win over the Eagles on Monday night.
Edmonds filled his usual backup role behind Rachaad White. Dating back to Week 14, Edmonds has recorded at least four rush attempts in four of six contests, but his pass-catching work remains extremely modest with the exception of a five-reception tally against the Saints in Week 17. As long as White is healthy in front of him, Edmonds figures to see single-digit touches again in Sunday's divisional-round road matchup versus the Lions.

Buccaneers' Chase Edmonds: Breaks off big run Sunday
Edmonds rushed four times for 27 yards and brought in his only target for minus-3 yards in the Buccaneers' 9-0 win over the Panthers on Sunday.
Edmonds gained 21 of his yards on one carry, leading to his second-highest rushing yardage total of the season. The veteran back had a slightly smaller role than he likely envisioned when he signed with the Buccaneers this past offseason, finishing the 2023 campaign with 49 carries for 176 yards and a 14-81-0 line through the air across 13 games. However, Edmonds did see more work over the final five games, and he should continue operating as the primary backup to Rachaad White during the postseason, albeit likely in the same low-volume role.

Buccaneers' Chase Edmonds: Heavily involved as receiver
Edmonds rushed three times for 16 yards and brought in five of six targets for 40 yards in the Buccaneers' 23-13 loss to the Saints on Sunday.
One week after recording a season-high 10 carries, Edmonds produced new 2023 high-water marks in receptions, receiving yards and targets. Game script helped lead to Edmonds' expanded opportunity, however, and it's possible the same scenario isn't replicated Week 18 against the lowly Panthers in what is a must-win game for the Buccaneers.
