Siemian agreed to a one-year contract with the Bengals on Wednesday, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.
Siemian will get a chance to compete with Jake Browning for the top backup spot behind Joe Burrow in 2023 after Brandon Allen, who operated as Burrow's backup for three straight years, agreed to a deal with the 49ers earlier in the offseason. After operating as a part-time starter for Denver in 2016 and 2017, Siemian has since bounced around the league as a backup. He was with the Bears in 2022 and appeared in two games, completing 15 of 26 passes for 184 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Siemian was slated to fill in for an absent Justin Fields (shoulder) this past Sunday at the Jets, but he injured his oblique in warmups and suddenly was a game-time decision. He ended up playing through the pain and logged all 56 offense snaps in the loss while completing 14 of 25 passes for 179 yards, one touchdown and one interception. In the wake of the performance, Siemian was unable to practice during Week 13 prep and now will be sidelined for the rest of the campaign. Fields is in line to return Sunday against the Packers, and Eberflus noted practice-squad member Nathan Peterman will be the backup quarterback, even with the Bears signing Tim Boyle of the Lions' practice squad Wednesday.

Siemian got off to a strong start, completing three of five passes for 62 yards on the opening drive to set up a 22-yard Cairo Santos field goal before adding another 58 passing yards on the following possession, including a four-yard touchdown pass to Byron Pringle to take a 10-7 lead. New York's defense woke up after that, holding Siemian and the Bears in check the rest of the way. His final pass was an interception on 1st-and-goal, after which the Jets ran out the final 5:04. If Justin Fields (shoulder) feels good enough to play against the Packers in Week 13, Siemian will be back on the bench, but keep in mind that Chicago could play it safe with the second-year starter's injury by having Fields sit out through the Bears' Week 14 bye.

I hope Siemian doesn't play in Week 12 at the Jets or at all this season, but there's the potential for that now with Justin Fields dealing with a dislocated left shoulder. If Siemian does start then he's someone to add in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues for at least 5 percent of your remaining FAB. While he won't be Fields -- not many quarterbacks can do that -- he could take advantage of throwing to Darnell Mooney, Chase Claypool and Cole Kmet. Let's hope Fields is OK, but Fantasy managers in deeper Superflex and two-quarterback leagues should add Siemian just in case Fields can't play in Week 12 or beyond.

Nevertheless, with three consecutive multi-touchdown efforts and Sunday's two picks his first pair this season, Siemian seems a virtual lock to be under center again for the Thanksgiving night showdown with the Bills in Week 12.

Siemian also threw for multiple touchdowns for the second consecutive game, as he connected with Tre'Quan Smith and Marquez Callaway for scores of 11 and 15 yards, respectively. Despite some chatter of Taysom Hill seeing an increased role, he earned only two pass attempts, which allowed Siemian to top 30 pass attempts for the first time on the campaign. In fact, the soon-to-be 30-year-old led a go-ahead touchdown drive with just over a minute left in regulation only for the Falcons to come back the other way with a game-winning field goal. While it's not certain that he will remain the starter over Taysom Hill going forward, Siemian attempted more passes than Winston did in any single game this year, and his matchups going forward will be more favorable than Atlanta, which entered the week ranked seventh in fewest yards allowed per pass attempt.

Siemian and Taysom Hill (concussion) were both candidates to start after No. 1 quarterback Jameis Winston (knee) suffered a season-ending ACL tear in the Saints' Week 8 win over the Buccaneers, but Payton ultimately settled on Siemian, who backed up Winston in the victory. Siemian proved to be a capable game manager against a tough Tampa Bay squad, but his numbers (16-for-29 for 155 yards and a touchdown, two carries for two yards) weren't anything special from a fantasy perspective. Payton added that Hill will be active Sunday, so Siemian could be at risk of losing some snaps in the red zone, given that Hill provides a more formidable rushing threat. Moreover, Siemian will need to perform well against Atlanta to ensure he retains the starting gig beyond Sunday, as Payton appeared to suggest that the team's quarterback situation could be evaluated on a week-to-week basis.
