  • Saints' Johnathan Abram: Staying with New Orleans

Abram agreed to a contract with the Saints on Wednesday, Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football reports.

In nine regular-season games with the Saints in 2023, the 2019 first-round draft pick recorded 26 tackles and one interception. • Saints' Johnathan Abram: Plays nine games for Saints

Abram finished the 2023 regular season with 26 tackles and one interception in nine appearances.

Abram bounced back and forth between New Orleans' practice squad and active roster. While the majority of his playing time came on special teams this season, the 2019 first-round pick saw significant snaps on defense in four of his nine appearances, including when he played every defensive snap over the final two weeks of the regular season. Abram initially joined the Saints on a one-year deal in March, and he is set to become an unrestricted free agent this coming offseason.

  • Saints' Johnathan Abram: Responsible for two turnovers

Abram had five solo tackles, one pass defended, one interception and one forced fumble in Sunday's 23-13 win over the Buccaneers.

Both of Abram's turnovers occurred in the second half of Sunday's win. He jarred the ball out of Rachaad White's hands in the third quarter, a play that helped lead to a Saints field goal seven plays later. Two possessions later, Abram picked off Baker Mayfield on a pass intended for David Moore. It was Abram's first start at strong safety since being signed to the active roster Nov. 30, and he played all 50 defensive snaps in Sunday's victory.

Abram signed with the Saints' 53-man roster from their practice squad Thursday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

Abram had previously been elevated three times this season by New Orleans, although he hasn't suited up since Week 5 against the Patriots. With Marcus Maye (shoulder) questionable for Sunday's game against the Lions, the Saints have opted to bring Abram back to their active roster to strengthen their depth in the secondary.

  • Saints' Johnathan Abram: Heading to New Orleans

Abram agreed to a contract with the Saints and is slated to sign with the team Wednesday following a physical, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.

A first-round selection of the Raiders in the 2019 NFL Draft, Abram was cut loose by Las Vegas in November of last season and caught on with Green Bay and Seattle before the end of the campaign. Neither club sought to bring Abram back in free agency, but the veteran safety will get an opportunity to get his career back on track in New Orleans, where he'll likely fill a depth role in the secondary.

  • Packers' Johnathan Abram: Packs bags for Green Bay

The Packers claimed Abram off waivers Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

After being surprisingly waived by Las Vegas on Tuesday, Abram has found another opportunity with a new team where he'll reunite with former Raiders interim coach and current Packers special-teams coach Rich Bisaccia. That may be where he'll see most of his opportunities at first, but he also eventually could find his way into Green Bay's secondary rotation with starter Darnell Savage having struggled somewhat as of late.

  • Johnathan Abram: Done in Las Vegas

Las Vegas waived Abram on Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

The Raiders spent the 27th overall pick to acquire Abram back in 2019, but they've decided to let him go after three and a half seasons anyway. The 26-year-old safety had been ceding work to sophomore second-rounder Trevon Moehrig over Las Vegas' last four games, and the latter should take over as the team's starter next to Duron Harmon moving forward.
