Cardinals' Jeff Smith: Stays in AZ on reserve/future deal
The Cardinals signed Smith to a reserve/future contract Monday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.
Smith has ample NFL experience, recording 34 catches on 67 targets for 426 yards over 36 regular-season games since coming into the league with the Jets in 2019. However, he didn't play at all in 2023, spending the first part of the season on Arizona's practice squad before being placed on the practice-squad IR in late October and reaching an injury settlement a few days later. Smith rejoined Arizona's practice squad in December, and, with the reserve/future contract, will get the chance to compete for a roster spot in training camp this summer.

Jeff Smith: Returns to the desert
Smith (undisclosed) signed with the Cardinals' practice squad Monday, Bo Brack of GoPHNX.com reports.
Smith joined Arizona's practice squad in September before ultimately ending up on the injured list and being waived with a settlement. Now healthy, the Boston College product has been brought back into the fold and will provide organizational depth at wideout.

Smith will head to Arizona after entering the 2023 season without a team. Smith reverted to the Giants' injured reserve after clearing waivers and was set to miss the entire 2023 campaign. However, he's now free to sign a new contract once he's able to pass a physical. The severity of Smith's knee issue remains unclear, but it may stem from an injury he suffered at the end of 2022.

Smith posted a goodbye to New York on his personal Twitter account Tuesday, solidifying Pelissero's report. The veteran speedster secured eight of 11 targets for 134 yards in 11 appearances with the Jets last season, including a 77-yard tally against the Lions in Week 15, before going down with a knee injury. He will look to secure another depth role on the open market.
