  • Packers' Jordan Love: Offense in transition

Coach Matt LaFleur noted at the Annual League Meeting on Tuesday that "it's going to be a progression" as the Packers move from Aaron Rodgers to Love at quarterback, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports. The expected trade of Rodgers from Green Bay to the Jets has yet to go through, but both LaFleur and GM Brian Gutekunst have relayed this week the Packers' intention to deal their long-time signal-caller. Aside from the pending transaction, the team also must make a decision on whether to pick up the fifth-year option on Love's rookie contract, which needs to happen by May 1. Since being selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Love hasn't gotten much in-game action with Rodgers leading the offense. In 10 appearances (one start), Love has completed 50 of 83 passes (60.2 percent) for 606 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions.

  • Packers' Jordan Love: Spends another season as backup

Love completed 14 of 21 passes for 195 yards and a touchdown over four appearances during the 2022 season. The former first-rounder played sparingly in his third season, with the highlight being his late-game performance in the Packers' Week 12 loss to the Eagles. He could finally get a real chance to show what he can do in 2023 if fellow quarterback Aaron Rodgers moves on or retires, but his status will be in limbo until Rodgers' situation is resolved.

  • Packers' Jordan Love: One To Stash (QB Preview)

Aaron Rodgers has talked openly about the possibility of sitting out if the Packers are eliminated. That could be right around the corner if the team's currently in the playoffs keep winning. At the very least, Love is a must-stash in two-QB leagues, but the Packers have a great closing schedule which could make Love a Fantasy starter late in the year if everything goes right.

  • Packers' Jordan Love: Will remain in backup role Week 13

Love is slated to serve as Aaron Rodgers' backup in Sunday's game against the Bears after the latter was cleared to start the Week 13 contest, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Rodgers, who has been playing through a broken right thumb since Week 6, picked up another injury in last Sunday's loss to the Eagles, when he suffered a rib contusion. Though Love finished out the contest in place of the banged-up Rodgers, the third-year quarterback won't get the starting assignment Week 13 after Rodgers was able to practice in a limited fashion Thursday and Friday to ditch his injury designation heading into the weekend. The 4-8 Packers haven't ruled out the possibility of shutting Rodgers down once they're officially eliminated from playoff contention, so Love could have the chance to make some starts before season's end.

  • Packers' Jordan Love: Week 13 Waiver Priority List

We'll see if Aaron Rodgers (ribs) can play in Week 13 at Chicago, but if he's out, Love has the potential to be a low-end starter in deep, one-quarterback leagues. And Love would be a starter in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues if he starts against the Bears. Chicago has allowed a quarterback to score at least 19 Fantasy points in four of the past five games, including three passers getting at least 29 points over that span. Love came on for Rodgers in the second half of Week 12 at Philadelphia and completed 6-of-9 passes for 113 yards and one touchdown. In one-quarterback leagues, Love is worth 1 percent of your remaining FAB. And in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues, Love is worth at least 15 percent.

  • Packers' Jordan Love: Takes over for injured Rodgers

Love completed six of nine pass attempts for 113 yards and a touchdown after Aaron Rodgers (ribs) was forced to leave Sunday's 40-33 loss to the Eagles. Love stepped in for Rodgers with the Packers down two scores late in the contest, and the backup didn't let the offense skip a beat despite eventually falling short on an improbable comeback attempt. The 2020 first-round pick looked as good as we've ever seen him in limited action, whipping crisp passes to his receivers in stride en route to a near-perfect QB rating in his quarter of action. Initial reports on Rodgers' ribs are unclear, but he was able to avoid a punctured lung after having trouble breathing while being examined postgame. Head coach Matt LaFleur added that he doesn't know if Rodgers will be forced to miss time, but added that if healthy, he will start Sunday against Chicago, according to Jeff Howe of The Athletic. If Love does end up starting for the 4-8 Packers, he showed enough of an improvement in a hostile environment Sunday to warrant fantasy consideration against a struggling Bears defense.

  • Packers' Jordan Love: Sees late action in Week 1

Love completed four of five passes for 65 yards in Sunday's loss to the Vikings. With just over a minute to go and the Packers trailing by 16 points, Love replaced starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers and handled the final drive of the game. Love completed all four passes he got off, with the lone misfire coming on a spiked ball to stop the clock. The efficient outing bodes well for Love's confidence but does nothing to change his status as the backup behind Rodgers.

  • Packers' Jordan Love: Starting Friday

Love will start Friday's preseason contest against the Saints, Wes Hodkiewicz of the Packers' official site reports. With Aaron Rodgers in street clothes for a second straight exhibition, Love will get a chance to direct the offense. It'll be interesting to see if he logs a full half like he did last Friday in San Francisco, but whenever he departs, he'll hand things over to Danny Etling.

  • Packers' Jordan Love: Mixed bag in preseason opener

Love completed 13 of 24 passes for 176 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions and added 24 yards on four rushes in the Packers' 28-21 preseason loss to the 49ers on Friday night. With Aaron Rodgers sitting out, it was Love who started the game and played the entirety of the first half. The 2020 first-round pick's night got off to an encouraging start when he connected with Romeo Doubs for a nifty 33-yard touchdown pass down the right sideline to answer an early 49ers field goal. However, Love then short-circuited each of the Packers' next three possessions with interceptions, all which came in San Francisco territory. Love did finish the night on a positive note when he helmed a nine-play, 75-yard march just before halftime that culminated in another 33-yard scoring toss, this time in conjunction with Danny Davis. Love could see another solid allotment of playing time in next Friday night's home exhibition battle against the Saints, even if Rodgers makes a brief appearance to start the game.

  • Packers' Jordan Love: Starting preseason opener

Coach Matt LaFleur said Love will start Friday's preseason contest against the 49ers, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports. LaFleur also relayed that Aaron Rodgers will sit out at least Green Bay's first two preseason contests, but that a decision hasn't yet been made about the Aug. 25 game against the Chiefs, per Matt Schneidman of The Athletic. It remains to be seen how many drives the 2020 first-round pick actually will lead Friday, but whatever snaps Love does take will help prepare him for handling backup duties this season. If the 49ers opt to start second-year quarterback Trey Lance, Friday's contest could prove to be one of the more intriguing matchups on the preseason slate.

  • Packers' Jordan Love: Set for backup duties again

Love's tentative path to the starting role with Green Bay in 2022 vanished Tuesday, after incumbent Aaron Rodgers agreed to terms on a four-year, $200 million contract, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. The 2020 first-round pick's prospects for his third year in Green Bay hinged entirely on Rodgers' decision, and with the back-to-back MVP now sticking around for the foreseeable future, Love's best-case scenario with the team that drafted him appears to be backup duties. On the other hand, the Packers still have significant salary cap issues to address, and Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that Love could now be a legitimate trade chip. Being dealt to a quarterback-needy team such as the Broncos or Panthers would certainly be the best outcome for the 23-year-old's fantasy prospects. That said, it remains to be seen whether front offices around the league are willing to exchange significant capital for the talented but unproven Love.

  • Packers' Jordan Love: Six appearances in second season

Love appeared in six games during the 2021 season and completed 36 of 62 passes for 411 yards. He registered two touchdowns and three interceptions and also ran 12 times for 27 yards. Of Love's six appearances, two were simply to kneel out the clock, and two others were brief cameos late in games when the outcome already had been determined. He did play one full game against the Chiefs in Week 9 and played the second half of the Packers' Week 18 loss to the Lions, and he was unspectacular in those contests, completing just 56.9 percent of his passes and averaging 6.4 YPA. After seeing no snaps in his 2020 rookie campaign, the 2021 season essentially was Love's first as a pro. His prospects for 2022 will hinge significantly on whether or not fellow quarterback Aaron Rodgers remains with Green Bay. If Rodgers returns, Love is looking at another season in the backup role. If Rodgers does not, though, Love will be the favorite to take over as the Packers' starting quarterback.

  • Packers' Jordan Love: Struggles in extended appearance

Love completed 10 of 17 pass attempts for 134 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions against Detroit on Sunday. Love played off the bench and mostly with backups after Aaron Rodgers played with most of the starters. Love saw a lot of pressure and arguably was at minimal fault for one of his interceptions, which was tipped at the line and then again by his wide receiver before the defense snagged it, but his box score also benefited from a lot of yards after the catch on a 62-yard touchdown pass to tight end Josiah Deguara. It's disappointing that Love didn't produce any better, even if he was playing with Green Bay's backups, and he needs to get better at identifying pressure pre-snap so that he isn't so constantly caught by surprise after the snap. Love won't turn 24 until November and still has time to develop, but it's safe to say that the Packers wish he was farther along in that development than he appears to be at the moment.

  • Packers' Jordan Love: Back on active roster

The Packers activated Love (illness) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, Doug Kyed of Pro Football Focus reports. Love tested positive for the virus on Dec. 6, and even though he was vaccinated, he wasn't able to rid himself of symptoms and test negative twice 24 hours apart until more than a week later. He thus yielded backup quarterback duties to Kurt Benkert this past Sunday against the Bears, but the latter reverted to the practice squad Monday, signaling Love's impending return to the active roster. Love will reclaim No. 2 duties behind Aaron Rodgers for the Packers' Week 15 game in Baltimore, and with Rodgers tending to a toe injury, the former will handle the majority of the reps with the first-team offense this week.

  • Packers' Jordan Love: Lands on COVID-19 list

The Packers placed Love on the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday. According to Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, Love previously disclosed to reporters that he's vaccinated, which means his placement on the list is the result of a breakthrough positive test. Love will be eligible to rejoin the Packers as soon as he's showing diminished symptoms of the virus and tests negative on two occasions at least 24 hours apart, giving him a chance to make it back as the backup to Aaron Rodgers for Sunday's game against the Bears. With Rodgers nursing a toe injury that will likely result in him sitting out portions of practice this week, practice squad quarterback Kurt Benkert could take most of the first-team reps over the next few days.

  • Packers' Jordan Love: Returning to No. 2 role

Love is set to resume backup duties for the Packers in Sunday's game against the Seahawks after the team reinstated starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers (illness) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday, the Associated Press reports. After Rodgers' surprise placement on the list last week, Love picked up his first NFL start and generally struggled to move the chains in the Packers' 13-7 loss to the Chiefs, finishing with 19 completions on 34 attempts for 190 yards, a touchdown and an interception while adding 23 yards on the ground. Though Love continued to take all the first-team reps in practice this week while Rodgers remained isolated from the team, the reigning MVP took part in virtual meetings and performed conditioning drills on his own to stay prepared to start. Even if Love had fared better in his first extensive NFL action last week, he was always unlikely to pick up another start so long as Rodgers was activated when first eligible.

  • Packers' Jordan Love: First NFL start on tap

Love will make his first NFL start Sunday against the Chiefs with Aaron Rodgers (illness) ineligible to play Week 9 after testing positive for COVID-19, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. After the Packers were forced to get by without All-Pro wideout Davante Adams in the Week 8 win over the Cardinals following his own positive COVID-19 test, Green Bay will face an even greater challenge Week 9 sans the reigning NFL MVP. Love, the Packers' 2020 first-round pick, has yet to see any extended regular-season action during his career, with his lone two appearances coming in garbage time of a Week 1 blowout loss to the Saints and for a trio of kneeldowns in a Week 2 win over the Lions. Expect head coach Matt LaFleur to simplify the play calls for Love against Kansas City, with the Packers potentially adopting a run-heavy approach so long as the team isn't trailing by a significant margin. According to Ian Rapoport and Mike Garofolo of NFL Network, Rodgers is unvaccinated, so he'll require a longer period of time to clear the necessary health and safety protocols than a vaccinated player and won't be a lock to return to action Week 10 against the Seahawks.

  • Packers' Jordan Love: Remains day-to-day

Love (shoulder) has not been cleared to return to the field yet, but he may be able to play in the Packers' final preseason game at Buffalo, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports. Love was held out of Saturday's contest against the Jets with the injury, but it sounds as if he's nearing a return. Coach Matt LaFleur confirmed that when Love is cleared from the injury, he'll be the team's backup quarterback. Love played fairly well in the team's first preseason contest -- he completed 12 of 17 pass attempts for 122 yards and a touchdown -- and it would benefit him to get more reps in game action before the regular season begins.

  • Packers' Jordan Love: Out Saturday

Love (shoulder) will not play Saturday against the Jets, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports. This shouldn't be surprising considering coach Matt LaFleur more or less confirmed the 2020 first-round pick would not be active for the preseason contest. With Aaron Rodgers also getting a veteran's night off, Kurt Benkert and Jake Dolegala are the only two active quarterbacks for the Packers on Saturday, with the former expected to take the majority of the work.

  • Packers' Jordan Love: Set to miss some time

Coach Matt LaFleur said Love (shoulder) may miss practice this week and could even sit out Saturday's preseason game against the Jets, Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette reports. There was an expectation Love would play three quarters of the Packers' exhibition opener versus the Texans on Saturday, but after he was strip sacked late in the first half, LaFleur opted to keep the second-year quarterback on the sideline after halftime. An MRI on Love's right shoulder Sunday came back clean, but LaFleur clearly doesn't want to press the issue in the coming days. Previously, the coach relayed starter Aaron Rodgers was unlikely to suit up in the preseason, and if Love is forced to sit out Saturday, LaFleur may have to adjust his plans with just one other quarterback (Kurt Benkert) on the roster.
