Player Outlook
Until Callaway receives meaningful playing time, Fantasy managers shouldn't bother adding him to their rosters. But his prospects improved when projected No. 3 receiver, Tim Patrick, was lost for the season with an Achilles injury early in camp.

  • Marquez Callaway: Finds practice squad spot

Callaway was picked up by the Raiders' practice squad Thursday. Callaway spent his first three seasons in New Orleans on both the practice squad and active roster. He accumulated 83 receptions for 1,069 yards and seven touchdowns across 14 regular-season games. He spent OTAs and training camp in Denver but failed to make the final roster. He will now stay in the AFC West and look to make an impression in Vegas.

  • Marquez Callaway: Waived by Denver

The Broncos waived Callaway on Tuesday, Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post reports. Callaway signed with Denver in March after three seasons with the Saints and was competing for a depth role at wide receiver throughout training camp. He caught just one of four targets for seven yards during exhibition play and was unable to land a spot on the 53-man roster. Callaway could still end up with the Broncos as a member of their practice squad.

  • Broncos' Marquez Callaway: Signs with Broncos

Callaway has agreed to terms with the Broncos, Aric DiLalla of the team's official site reports. Per Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post, Callaway is joining the Broncos on a one-year deal. The 6-foot-2, 204-pounder is coming off a 2022 season in which he caught 16 passes for 158 yards and a TD in 14 games with the Saints, but it's worth noting that Callaway posted career-best marks (46/698/6) in 2021 while working with Sean Payton (now Denver's head coach) in New Orleans. For now, however, he slots in behind Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton and Tim Patrick on his new team's wideout depth chart, but the 24-year-old does give the Broncos added depth on that front in the event that KJ Hamler (pectoral) isn't ready for game action early on this coming season.

  • Saints' Marquez Callaway: Not expected to be tendered

The Saints are not expected to tender Callaway, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports. Callaway has totaled 1,069 yards and seven touchdowns in three years with the Saints and was set for restricted free agency this summer, but the undrafted wideout will be free to sign anywhere he wants if his contract isn't tendered. Fowler added that a return to the Saints could still be in the cards if Callaway can't find a better deal elsewhere, but for now, the 6-foot-2 speedster appears on his way out of New Orleans.

  • Saints' Marquez Callaway: Set to hit restricted free agency

Callaway failed to catch his lone target during Sunday's 10-7 loss versus the Panthers. Callaway suited up for the regular-season finale after being ruled a healthy scratch in three of the previous seven games. However, his season-low eight offensive snaps was still the fewest of any Saints wide receiver Week 18. The third-year wideout previously served as one of the team's top pass catchers when Michael Thomas (toe), Jarvis Landry (ankle) and Chris Olave (concussion) were all sidelined in mid-October. However, Callaway then was crowded out with Olave available for all but one of the final 11 games and undrafted rookie Rasheed Shaheed stepping up into the No. 2 receiver spot over the second half of the season. Any additional targets were largely eaten up by No.1 tight end Juwan Johnson. Callaway finished the 2022 season with 16 receptions (on 32 targets) for 158 yards and one touchdown while adding 25 punt-return yards over 14 games. The 6-foot-2 wideout now is set to enter the 2023 offseason as a restricted free agent, leaving his future with the Saints up in the air.

  • Saints' Marquez Callaway: Healthy scratch again

Callaway is inactive for Sunday's game in Philadelphia. Callaway was the team's No. 2 receiver at one point earlier this season and got some snaps last week with Chris Olave sidelined by a hamstring injury, but this isn't the first time Callaway has been a healthy scratch. Olave is back in this week, and likely joined by Rashid Shaheed and Tre'Quan Smith as the lead trio at wide receiver. Callaway thus loses out to Kirk Merritt and Keith Kirkwood, both of whom seemingly offer more special-teams value.

  • Saints' Marquez Callaway: Won't play Sunday

Callaway (coach's decision) is inactive Sunday against the 49ers. Callaway was also a healthy scratch Week 10, and although he suited up Week 11 against the Rams, he only saw one target, which he caught for a six-yard gain. He'll now work to be active Week 13 against the Buccaneers.

  • Saints' Marquez Callaway: Minimal role in win

Callaway gathered in his only target for 10 yards on 21 offensive snaps during Sunday's 24-0 victory over the Raiders. Callaway logged his fewest offensive snaps, targets and receptions since Week 3, even though Michael Thomas (foot) and Jarvis Landry (ankle) remained out Sunday. The 6-foot-2 receiver caught 10 of his 22 targets for 114 yards over the previous four weeks, but he tied for sixth in targets in this contest, and he also played fewer offensive snaps than fellow wideouts Tre'Quan Smith (38), Chris Olave (37) and Kevin White (30). Callaway's diminished role may indicate that he's fallen down the team's WR depth chart, which doesn't bode well for his target share heading into next Monday's game against the Ravens.

  • Saints' Marquez Callaway: Steps up into No. 1 spot

Callaway caught three of seven targets for 36 yards during Sunday's 30-26 defeat against the Bengals. Callaway paced the Saints' wide receiver corps in targets and offensive snaps with starters Michael Thomas (foot), Jarvis Landry (ankle) and Chris Olave (concussion) all out due to injury Sunday. However, the 24-year-old still finished third on the team in receiving yards behind Tre'Quan Smith (43 yards) and tight end Juwan Johnson (41 yards). With primary returner Deonte Harty (foot) on IR, Callaway also fair caught one punt while splitting those duties with undrafted rookie Rashid Shaheed. Callaway now has played at least 72 percent of New Orleans' offensive snaps in each of the last three games, recording eight receptions (on 16 targets) for 94 yards during this span. He again figures to see increased playing time if Thomas and/or Landry remain sidelined Thursday against the Cardinals.

  • Saints' Marquez Callaway: Starting role on tap again

Callaway and Tre'Quan Smith served as the Saints' top receivers during walk-through drills ahead of Sunday's game against the Bengals, John Hendrix of SI.com reports. After handling 96 and 72 percent snap shares in Week 4 and 5, Callaway looks primed for a similar level of playing time Sunday. Fellow wideouts Michael Thomas (foot) and Jarvis Landry (ankle) are sidelined for their third and second game in a row, respectively, while rookie first-round pick Chris Olave is inactive after he was unable to clear the concussion protocol. Additionally, the Saints are without another depth wideout in Deonte Harty (foot), who was recently moved to injured reserve. Of the five receivers who are active for the Saints this week, Callaway and Smith have combined for 12 of the 13 receptions the quintet has recorded this season.

  • Saints' Marquez Callaway: Handles punts in win

Callaway caught two of his three targets for five yards and returned two punts for 25 yards during Sunday's 39-32 win over the Seahawks. With Michael Thomas (foot) and Jarvis Landry (ankle) both inactive Sunday, Callaway wound up playing the most offensive snaps (56) of any Saints wideout, as Chris Olave was forced out with a concussion in the third quarter. However, the 24-year-old Callaway made his biggest impact on special teams after stepping in for primary punt returner Deonte Harty, who exited early with a turf toe injury. Callaway fielded five punts, including three fair catches, and had a 21-yard return in the third quarter. The 6-foot-2 pass catcher could stand to see increased usage in New Orleans' banged-up receiving corps moving forward, though the team will likely continue to lean into its running game with Alvin Kamara, Taysom Hill and Mark Ingram.

  • Saints' Marquez Callaway: Active Sunday

Callaway may be the Saints' return man Sunday against the Panthers, Luke Johnson of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. Callaway was seen fielding punts during warmups. The team's usual return man, Deonte Harty, is a healthy scratch. This is a role Callaway had at times during his rookie season with the team, but it had not carried over since.

  • Saints' Marquez Callaway: Not targeted once again Sunday

Callaway did not record a target during Sunday's 20-10 loss to the Buccaneers. He played 17 offensive snaps and four special-team snaps. Callaway failed to make an impact as a receiver for the second straight week. Though fellow wideout and return specialist Deonte Harty played fewer offensive snaps (11), he still managed to haul in his lone target for nine yards. Callaway's overall snap share suggests that he should continue to vie with Harty for the team's No. 4 receiver spot while Tre'Quan Smith deals with a nagging shoulder injury.

  • Saints' Marquez Callaway: Non-factor Sunday

Callaway was not targeted while playing 20 offensive snaps during the Saints' 27-26 victory against the Falcons on Sunday. Callaway lined up out wide on 33 percent of New Orleans' offensive plays during this season opener. Still, Saints quarterback Jameis Winston opted to direct his 34 passing attempts, including 24 in the second half, to other receivers during the team's comeback win as Jarvis Landry, Michael Thomas and rookie first-rounder Chris Olave accounted for all but one of the team's wide receiver targets Sunday. It's likely that Callaway will continue to see a lack of opportunities as long as the aforementioned trio remains healthy.

  • Saints' Marquez Callaway: Returns for minicamp

Callaway (thumb) participated in June minicamp, the Saints' official website reports. Callaway had thumb surgery early in the offseason, but there weren't any reports of limitations at spring practices. His bigger concern for this year is a beefed-up WR room that now has Jarvis Landry and first-round pick Chris Olave joining Callaway, Michael Thomas (ankle), Deonte Harty and Tre'Quan Smith. There's still some opportunity for Callaway to earn a top-three spot on the depth chart -- especially if Thomas isn't ready for Week 1 -- but the 24-year-old Callaway could just as easily drop to the No. 4/5 role after starting 11 games last season.

  • Saints' Marquez Callaway: Underwhelming production in 2021

Callaway caught 46 of 84 targets for 698 yards and six touchdowns over 17 games in 2021. With Michael Thomas (ankle) on the shelf all season, Callaway consistently handled heavy snap counts for New Orleans both before and after Tre'Quan Smith made his season debut in Week 7. However, the 6-foot-2 receiver only ran a route on 53 percent of his snaps and he was only targeted on 19.5 percent of his routes - less than each of Deonte Harris, Alvin Kamara, Mark Ingram, Ty Montgomery and Adam Trautman. While Callaway still put together a couple of nice games this year, this underwhelming usage led to inconsistent stat lines that made him hard to trust in fantasy lineups. Unless the Saints get a dramatic upgrade at quarterback in the offseason, things could get worse for Callaway in 2022 with Thomas set to reprise his role as the team's undisputed top option at receiver.

  • Saints' Marquez Callaway: Nearly hits century mark

Callaway caught six of 10 targets for 97 yards in Sunday's 18-10 win over the Panthers. He very nearly topped 100 yards for the second time in the last three games, but Callaway had to content himself with being Taysom Hill's top option in the passing game. His developing chemistry with the QB -- Callaway has a 16-255-0 line on 24 targets over those three games -- bodes well for his chances of another big performance in Week 18 against the Falcons, as the Saints will be trying to claim a wild-card spot.

  • Saints' Marquez Callaway: Four catches in blowout loss

Callaway caught four of five targets for 46 yards during Monday's 20-3 loss to Miami. Callaway was the Saints' best source of offense in the first half, catching three balls for 42 yards despite the rest of the Ian Book-led offense doing next to nothing. However, he was unable to overcome extra defensive attention that ensued once Tre'Quan Smith (chest) was knocked out of the game. While Callaway would be cemented as New Orleans' No. 1 wideout if Smith can't play in Week 17 against Carolina, we now have proof that all Saints' skill players will have a dangerously low floor if Book is forced to make another start in place of Taysom Hill (COVID-19) or Trevor Siemian (COVID-19).

  • Saints' Marquez Callaway: Another quiet game

Callaway caught two of four targets for 34 yards in Sunday's 30-9 win over the Jets. Callaway hasn't reached 40 receiving yards in a game since Week 5, and he's seen exactly four targets in each of the last five games. He'll be a touchdown-dependent, boom-or-bust option against the Buccaneers in Week 15, having found the end zone six times this season despite the modest target volume.

  • Saints' Marquez Callaway: One catch against Dallas

Callaway caught one of four passes for 13 yards during Thursday's 27-17 loss to Dallas. Callaway continues to command a large snap share and subsequently run a lot of routes, but the Tennessee product has topped five targets in only three games this year. This lowly workload has made him a touchdown-dependent fantasy option, and things are unlikely to get better with the dual-threat Taysom Hill (finger) playing through a torn ligament in a finger on his throwing hand.
